Speaking to reporters outside the Oval Office on Monday, Border Czar Tom Homan discussed a crackdown on illegal immigration in Chicago, Illinois.
Transcript
00:00Can you talk about what these two operations in Boston and Chicago mean in practice?
00:06Does it mean a surge in ICE agents on the ground?
00:11Does it mean that National Guard troops are moving in?
00:15How does this change the operation on the ground?
00:17National Guard, they're always on the table, right?
00:20But right now it's a surge of law enforcement officers.
00:24And look, the president was clear on that two months ago.
00:27We said it's going to prioritize enforcement in sanctuary cities, and we talked about that before.
00:31Why?
00:32Because we know we have a problem in sanctuary cities.
00:34We know for a fact they're releasing illegal aliens, public safety threats, every day.
00:39So, like I said before, we don't have that problem in Florida, right, where every sheriff and chief works with us.
00:43So where are we going to send additional assets?
00:46Sanctuary cities where we know it's a problem.
00:49And despite what Mayor Wu says, I got the data to back it up.
00:54We know how many criminal animals are being released there.
00:55Look at the number of child predators we're wrestling, not just in Boston, but outlying communities in Massachusetts.
01:04I mean, I spoke at the CPAC conference when I said it.
01:06I just got done breeding a total of nine child predators released to the streets.
01:11So, you know, we have the data.
01:13They are a sanctuary city.
01:14That state's a sanctuary state.
01:16I know Governor Healy made a statement of why am I so infatuated with Massachusetts.
01:21I'm infatuated with every sanctuary city.
01:23We're going to send resources there.
01:25We're going to, if they don't want to help us to get out of the way, we'll make your city safer.
01:28But today, President Trump said he's waiting for a call from Chicago.
01:31Does that mean he's waiting for local leaders to call him before sending in National Guard troops?
01:37They've had plenty of chances to call.
01:40We're going to go ahead and do operations in Sanctuary City.
01:42I think the president's referring to it.
01:44I'm not familiar with that.
01:45But I think he wants to talk about what more can we do to make us more efficient and more meaningful.
01:51But, again, if they don't want to come to the table and work with us, we're going to do it anyway.
01:55If they want to sit there and watch us make their city safer, then go ahead and watch.
01:58The operation you're talking about right now is about immigration.
02:01The operation we're talking about right now is immigration, but we're still prioritizing public safety threats and national security threats.
02:09But I've made this clear from the beginning.
02:10In Sanctuary City, if we can't get the bad guy into jail because they've released him to the street, we're going to go to the street.
02:16We're going to find him.
02:17If he's with others, may not be a criminal threat, but they're illegal in the United States, they're coming too.
02:22I've made that clear for months.
