During a House Natural Resources Committee hearing in July, Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) spoke about a plan by the Californian Department of Fish and Wildlife to shoot rubber bullets at gray wolves.
Transcript
00:00Is there further discussion on the bill? Mr. LaMoffa, you're recognized.
00:04Thank you, Mr. Chairman. I appreciate this bill, this effort on black vultures.
00:08Could we add a provision for gray wolves in Northern California, especially as the
00:12devastation that they're wreaking? For example, I talked to ranchers up there.
00:16There's another kill daily in Sierra County of yet another calf going right now.
00:22And Fish and Wildlife in California is dragging their feet to deciding to go to the second tier,
00:28of maybe helping to haze the wolves with bean bags and rubber bullets. The devastation continues.
00:36And so I guess I couldn't let this moment go by and not, you know, not having, having heard from
00:42folks just about every day on this up there that it's a good effort on the, on the black vultures,
00:46but man, we better get really serious on this gray wolf introduction of a non-native species in
00:51the Northern California. And we certainly have plenty of these wolves not endangered,
00:56I believe probably in Mr. Stauber's district or state and that area of the country there,
01:02they're not endangered by any stretch. And we got to quit playing this game. And we need state fish
01:06and wildlife to realize this in California, that the devastation and people are only going to take
01:12so much. I yield back. Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
