In House floor remarks on Thursday, Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) spoke about the introduction of a gray wolf population in northeast California.

00:00Mr. Speaker, Northeast California, as in other parts of the country, we're seeing an introduction
00:06of a wolf population is devastating, not only to the beef industry and the at least 200 spring
00:14calves, but also to the rest of the wildlife in the neighborhood. Places like Sierra County,
00:19Siskiyou County, Modoc County, Lassen County, Plumas County are being devastated by this
00:25introduction of the gray wolf. Now, this is somehow dressed up under the idea that it's
00:30endangered, yet there's been long sought the delisting of the gray wolf in the United States
00:36where you can find tens of thousands of them in upper Midwest states and lower Canada. So why is
00:42it that we have the logic that they have to have one in each county in each state to somehow be
00:47seen as not endangered anymore? They're indigenous to a particular area. They do not need to be
00:52introduced and devastating the landscape, devastating the people where kids have to sit in cages
00:59at bus stops in order to be safe. Just recently, an elk was chased right up onto a front porch
01:04of a constituent here in Northern California and killed and partially devoured right on the
01:09property, right next to the building there. So does this mean that we're getting a better
01:14quality environment because of that? Does that mean that we're getting public safety? No, it's
01:18getting worse. I yield back. The gentleman yields back.
