New York City Mayor Eric Adams was asked about a new Siena College poll that showed the Mayor trailing his opponents before the Mayoral election in November.
00:05There's a new Santa College poll out that has you behind Andrew Cuomo and even Curtis Lewa.
00:12I know polls are polls, but I wanted to get your take on the poll.
00:16It even has your favorability, unfavorability lower than Cuomo's, or favorability lower than Cuomo's.
00:23So I just wanted to get your take on the poll.
00:25Is there anything that you're going to be doing in terms of your strategy, how you're going to be messaging to people?
00:30Okay, first, if I don't recall, that's a statewide poll.
00:36Statewide.
00:37I'm not running for governor.
00:39I'm running for mayor.
00:40And I don't quite understand what's the purpose of doing a statewide poll on the mayor's race.
00:47You know, I've said this over and over again.
00:50You look at the candidates that are running.
00:53They have spent millions of dollars telling their story.
00:56Millions.
00:56You know, I think Andrew spent about $30-something million.
01:00Same with Johan.
01:03He has spent a substantial amount of money as well.
01:06When you have millions of dollars spent to tell your story, you know, that's what you're going to get.
01:12Now is our opportunity.
01:14I could tell my story now.
01:15The money that I raised, I could use to tell my story.
01:19You do your TV ads.
01:20You do your flyer and you put your information out.
01:23So now it's campaign season.
01:25And so a poll that judges the state, even if they indicated that my unfavorabilities have gone down, people are starting more and more to see what we are doing.
01:38And so we have to, you know, you just got to stay focused in these races.
01:41If not, you'll be distracted by polls and comments and all of that.
01:46Remember, at this time, during the primary, at this time, Zohan was at 1%.
01:53At this time, he was at 1% from the time that it was out from the election.
02:02And from 1%, he won the primary because he was able to get his message out.
02:07And Andrew had a poll that showed him the day before the election, he was up 10%, 10 percentage points.
02:15He lost by 13 or 14.
02:17So if there is no better case to talk about how these things shifts and changes, I think that's a perfect example.
02:24You have a person who's at 1%, won the primary, a person who was at 36%, lost by 13 points.
02:32I mean, is there any better example of why you just have to stay focused?
02:38What he did, he being the primary winner, he stayed focused.
02:42He heard me say, stay focused, no distraction and grind.
02:45And I guess he did it also, you know.
02:48You got to stay focused in this stuff.
02:49Do you feel like you haven't really ramped up your campaigning yet or your message?
02:53Do you feel like you're just getting started or like you're still in kind of, you know, messaging mode?
02:57Or what do you feel like is kind of next for you?
02:59Do you feel like this is just the beginning in the next month or so, we're going to see a lot more from you, a lot more campaigning?
03:05What do you think?
03:05Well, I think you see a lot from me now.
03:09I'm in the streets.
03:10I'm speaking with people.
03:11And I enjoy doing this.
03:13You know, to me, this is not campaigning.
03:16This is not campaigning.
03:18Probably to a lot of people, it's work and it's campaigning.
03:22It is not.
03:22I love being around people.
03:25And I'm going to love being around people, ordinary, everyday, working class people.
03:31I get energy from everyday people.
03:34And so, you know, to others, it's like, you know, oh, I got to get up and I got to go talk to these people.
03:39No, I'm like waking up and saying, man, I'm getting ready to go hang out in the Bronx at a clubhouse.
03:44I'm excited about this.
03:45So this is not broke for me.
03:48Someone once said, when you're doing what you love, you're never having a job.
03:54I'm going to, what I'm doing right now, no matter what I do, I'm going to do it.
03:59I've been doing this for 40 years, you know.
04:02So I just enjoy doing this.
04:06And I'm going to continue to do it no matter what capacity I am in in the city.
