01:29This is the story of a kindly guard named Prometheus, who gave up everything to help humankind.
01:38And of a beautiful mortal named Pandora, who gave in to temptation, which unleashed a terrible evil upon the land.
01:48Would humankind have the will to endure the hardship and misery of this cruel punishment?
01:54Or would they lose all hope and perish from the Earth forever?
01:59According to the myth, long ago when the Earth was new, the great Zeus, king of the gods, ruled the heavens from high atop Mount Olympus.
02:15And as he watched over this planet, he was filled with concern. All was not right in his eyes.
02:23He called upon two lesser gods, Epimetheus and his brother, Prometheus, to resolve the problem.
02:31You called on us, Zeus?
02:33Yes. It's about Earth. I've been following its progress. Day after day, it's the same old thing.
02:42The sun comes up, it goes down. Tide comes in, it goes out.
02:47It's a young planet. It's still primitive.
02:51It's dull! Now go down there and create something befitting of a god's imagination.
03:17While Epimetheus filled the Earth with his wonderful creations, Prometheus was still contemplating what his contribution would be.
03:30Hey, Prometheus. What kind of creature did you make?
03:48I didn't make them. I found them. Look. They're hunting.
03:54Those hairless two-legged things? They don't stand a chance against my bison.
03:59We'll see.
04:29What did I tell you? These humans are truly special beings.
04:39I want to give them a gift. Something to help them survive. Something befitting of the gods.
04:45Careful, brother. You know Zeus doesn't take kindly to competition.
04:48I think all they really need is something to keep them warm.
05:06Maybe you're right, Epimetheus. What have you got in your satchel?
05:09Let's see. I gave horns to the bison, claws to the bear. There's got to be something left.
05:14I was saving this for the tiger, but you can have it.
05:21Whoa. This is terrible, Epimetheus. How can I help them now?
05:27That's it. The perfect gift.
05:31Something that can help them flourish and become a great civilization. The gift of fire.
05:36Absolutely not. I don't care how cold they are. Fire belongs to the gods.
05:47But Zeus, with fire they could do great things, sire. Build cities in your image. Fight battles in your name.
05:55These inferior creatures?
06:00They will misuse the power. They are just... animals. Like the creations of Epimetheus.
06:07No. They're more than that. They're something very different. Something almost... godlike.
06:14God. Think they have what it takes to endure the hardships and suffering. The joys and the pain of being a god.
06:22Just give them a chance. If we don't do that, we'll never know what they can do.
06:27Give them fire. And they will think they are gods. They will think they are above us.
06:36That's a dangerous thing, my friend.
06:40Especially coming from a god like yourself.
06:44I won't let them suffer like this.
07:02In the depths of the volcano lived Hephaestus, god of the forge.
07:08A reclusive god who made weapons of war.
07:17For Zeus, Apollo, and all of the other gods of Mount Olympus.
07:25Trespassers.
07:28I welcome them with my hammer.
07:32That was too easy.
07:51At last.
07:52Stealing fire from the gods?
08:00That's a crime.
08:03Punishable by a dip in the lava pit.
08:08How do you plead, thief?
08:13Guilty as charged.
08:15To be also not no way.
08:21Agh!
08:24Agh!
08:29Agh!
08:32Agh!
08:34Agh!
08:35Agh!
08:42Agh!
08:44Agh!
08:45We call it fire.
08:59There's nothing to fear.
09:01I will show you how to tame the fire magic and make it serve you.
09:06With this great gift of fire, Prometheus had given man hope for the future.
09:12But would it last?
09:20Another load ready to go.
09:24Very nice. It's just the way I envisioned it.
09:33Have you heard? There is another village in the next valley.
09:37That's wonderful news. Maybe we can travel there and trade our wares.
09:42I've come up with a little something of my own.
09:48Over many years, using the gift of fire, the humans evolved from a primitive tribe into a flourishing civilization.
09:57They've come a long way, don't you think, Epimetheus?
10:01Not bad for two-legged hairless creatures.
10:05They're not like your animals, Epimetheus.
10:07Look at the way they hold their heads up proudly to the heavens.
10:11Almost like gods themselves.
10:13What's this?
10:17Blast you, Prometheus. You have disobeyed me.
10:19So, you claim that your humans are equal to gods. Then we shall be tested. And so shall you, Prometheus. So shall you!
10:41So shall you!
10:51What is it, boy?
10:53Prometheus, run! Run, run, run!
10:57Prometheus, help me!
10:59Prometheus, run!
11:01Prometheus, run!
11:03Help me!
11:05Prometheus, run!
11:07Prometheus, run!
11:25The punishment Zeus dealt to Prometheus was cruel and ruthless, and it tore at the heart of Prometheus more than the eagles ever could.
11:37But even worse was the punishment Zeus had planned for the people.
11:58She looks almost alive. Almost.
12:02I call upon the four winds to breathe life where there is none.
12:16I will call you Pandora. It means gift to all.
12:22What is it that you wish of me, Master?
12:24You will marry Epimetheus.
12:26And for a wedding gift, I give you this.
12:32But you must never open it.
12:36I will do as you command.
12:38Soon we will see if mortals have what it takes to be like gods. I will put them to the test.
12:50I will do as you command.
12:52I will do as you command.
13:02Your song is almost as beautiful as you, Pandora.
13:06I'm glad it pleases you.
13:08Though Pandora loved her husband dearly, she was still not happy.
13:18For Zeus had given Pandora another dangerous gift.
13:22The gift of curiosity.
13:24No, Pandora, don't even think it.
13:28I know what can happen when someone disobeys Zeus.
13:30I know it well.
13:32Who said that?
13:46Let us out, Pandora!
13:48Please.
13:50No.
13:52Let us out.
13:56Let us out.
13:58come to Anasura, Pandora!
14:03come to Anasura, Pandora!
14:05Come to Anasura, Pandora!
14:06Let us out!
14:09come to Anasura, Pandora!
14:11let us out!
14:24you
14:28Let us out.
14:31Let us out.
14:38And let us...
14:41Let us out.
14:43Ha ha ha ha!
14:54Foolish mortal, foolish mortal.
14:59You opened the chest.
15:02You let us out at mast!
15:08Who are you?
15:09I am deceit, and you have taken my bait.
15:16I am jealousy, I am hate, I am war.
15:26And I am despair.
15:29Oh, and you shall know me well, Pandora.
15:34What have I done?
15:49The evil spirits rushed from Pandora's box,
15:53unleashing their misery upon the people.
15:56And they tested the human will like never before.
16:03The people of our village are starving, and we have nothing saved for the winter.
16:15Can you help us?
16:18Perhaps if we all ration our food, we could share.
16:22Why should we help them? We have ourselves to take care of.
16:27How do we know they are not the ones who brought these terrible plagues upon us?
16:31They have done this to us!
16:34Leave our village!
16:35Get out, everyone!
16:36No!
16:37The fires of war threaten to destroy everything the people have created.
16:42We will rid this valley of our enemies!
16:46No!
16:48No!
17:04No!
17:06No!
17:10This is all my doing. I only wanted to help them.
17:25He should have followed that before he stole fire.
17:29Then if you won't forgive a fellow god, at least forgive the mortals.
17:34Forgive Pandora. She meant no harm.
17:38She disobeyed me.
17:40She gave in to her curiosity, just as I knew she would.
17:45If these humans do not have the will to survive, then let them perish.
17:55Everything that humanity had created had been laid to waste and all seemed hopeless.
18:01Is there nothing I can do? Nothing?
18:13Pandora! Let me help Pandora!
18:15Oh, no! You won't fool me twice.
18:19But I am Hope. Without me, the world cannot bear all the unhappiness you have to lose.
18:27How do I know you are Hope? How do I know you aren't deceit come to fool me again?
18:31I do not prove to you who I am unless you let me into your heart.
18:36But I...
18:37Now, Pandora! Before to leave!
18:40Oh, I feel you in my heart. You are Hope.
18:51The Spirit of Hope swept across the land and entered the hearts of the people.
19:02Yes!
19:03Why are we standing around? We have a village to rebuild!
19:12Yes!
19:14Why are we fighting, brother?
19:19Prometheus saw that his people had survived despite the cruel spirits that plagued them.
19:38And they had done it with the light and spirit of hope.
19:42Even though Prometheus was still in chains, he too was filled with that same hope.
19:49The Great Myth tells us that as time passed, the people endured many more hardships.
20:00Yet, they continued to prosper with hope in their hearts.
20:07Very impressive. Very impressive indeed.
20:12My dear, I have to admit I was wrong about you.
20:15That's kind of you to say, Your Majesty.
20:16I never thought you'd find hope among all those evils.
20:21I think it was in my heart all along. I just had to believe it was there.
20:26But if you wanted to punish man, why did you put hope in the chest?
20:30I may be a hard ruler, but I believe in fair play.
20:34Prometheus dared me to give man a chance, and so I did.
20:37I hate to admit it, but Prometheus was right.
20:42His humans took this gift of hope to heart.
20:45Kept on hoping despite their hardships.
20:49They deserve to walk among the gods.
20:53And so does Prometheus.
20:57Prometheus was free once more to watch over the people of the world.
21:17Thank you, Zeus.
21:24And now, filled with hope, humanity was free to rise to even greater heights.
21:31Prometheus was free once more to watch over the people of the world.
22:01I don't care.
22:07I don't care.
22:27I don't know.
