00:00This is a paper airplane, and it's actually not terrible.
00:03So that's 10 meters.
00:04But what if we took the paper plane to its absolute extreme
00:07with the $92 Power-Up Plane Z4 F-22 Raptor Edition?
00:12Well, it took me around 30 minutes of pushing,
00:14folding, and cutting to set the thing up.
00:16But now, ooh, look at this.
00:19The plane's gyro sensors will show you how upright it currently is.
00:22Then you use your phone's gyro sensors if you want to steer it.
00:25Let's put it onto 100% speed.
00:27And, whoa!
00:28Man, this thing just goes.
00:30It feels so weird to be able to fly a paper airplane.
00:32That traveled 70 meters.
00:34We all had toys as kids.
00:36But today, we are finding out how extreme those toys can get
00:39if you spend adult money.
00:41So let's test them in price order
00:42and then rank the top three in terms of sheer thrill
00:45on this here podium.
00:47I guess you are currently in first place.
00:49But that might be about to change with the gel blaster.
00:52So for reference, this is a pretty standard $20 X-Shot blaster
00:56that you can grab on Amazon.
00:58And it's basically like an airsoft gun.
01:00But instead of firing painfully plastic pellets,
01:05it fires Orbeez.
01:07But this is what happens when you spend $250
01:10to buy something like the N4 gel blaster.
01:13And it's absolutely buried in accessories.
01:15Like, I have to one by one pick them off
01:17before we can get to the gun itself.
01:18Wow, that is a lot heavier
01:20and more realistic looking than I was expecting.
01:23And then the craziest bit is
01:24that wasn't all the accessories.
01:26This is all the accessories.
01:28We've got magazines.
01:29We've got laser sights.
01:30Starting to make sense why this ended up being $250.
01:33All the parts in isolation feel a little bit cheap.
01:36But then you put it all together
01:37and it's actually kind of heavy and very cool looking.
01:40It feels like this is exactly 50%
01:42between toy and very serious piece of equipment.
01:45It's got two lasers.
01:46The green one looks like the even more precise option.
01:49Oh my God.
01:56And the muzzle.
01:57It's slightly smoking every time I shoot.
01:59It makes you feel very powerful
02:00when you're shooting with this thing.
02:02It's a lot more powerful.
02:04It's a lot more accurate.
02:04It's just not the most reliable product.
02:06We've actually had a ton of issues
02:07trying to get this thing to reload properly.
02:09But it would be pretty hard to argue
02:10that that wasn't even more fun than the paper plane.
02:13So, current residing champion.
02:17But when I was younger,
02:18even more so than guns,
02:19my primary source of entertainment
02:20was actually just a pen.
02:23Not in a cool James Bond gadget kind of way.
02:25From the age of like two,
02:26all I wanted to do was to draw a dinosaur.
02:30Yes, this is a dinosaur.
02:32So, how do you take doodling to the extreme?
02:34Well, by using the most advanced 3D printing pen
02:38that you can buy.
02:39The 3Doodler Pro.
02:40What a great name.
02:41Shame I can barely see it
02:42thanks to Hermes completely defacing my packaging.
02:45Wow, this is actually insane.
02:50So, it can print PLA,
02:52which is polylactic acid.
02:53They're biodegradable plastic
02:54and the most common 3D printing material.
02:57But then also,
02:58PHA,
02:59which is an even more biodegradable alternative.
03:02And then,
03:03wood.
03:04I mean, technically it's like wood powder
03:06fused with some plastic,
03:07but it looks like wood.
03:09I guess you could say it smells like wood.
03:11But also,
03:11it has the texture of it.
03:12Something about the idea of printing in wood
03:14feels so surreal to me.
03:15Hey,
03:16let's do my younger self proud.
03:18It's definitely a learned skill
03:19trying to draw in the air,
03:20but it's an impressively accurate product.
03:22And this wood material is hardening
03:24pretty much the second it leaves the nozzle.
03:26What's the name of like a really bad artist?
03:28It does have turd-like qualities to it.
03:34Oh,
03:34you can also control the speed
03:35at which the filament comes out.
03:37Let's just go sick of it then.
03:38Pretty cool how it comes together.
03:39Feels like the kind of thing
03:40that once mastered,
03:41you could basically make anything
03:43you wanted to with it.
03:44It's a new way of drawing.
03:45You kind of have to always think about
03:47how you're supporting
03:48every part of your image.
03:49Okay.
03:50I mean,
03:50I think if I told you it was a dinosaur,
03:52you'd believe me.
03:53I don't think younger me would be impressed.
03:54It somewhat resembles a dinosaur
03:56and I'm okay with that.
03:57Gotta say,
03:583D printing pens have come a long way.
04:00That is easily the best one I've used.
04:02It's actually a surprisingly good product.
04:04It's just hard to say
04:05that it's more thrilling
04:06than either of these two.
04:08Plus,
04:08you can't eat it.
04:11Which is also a solvable problem
04:13because I kid you not,
04:14there is also a doodler chef
04:16that prints candy.
04:18So first is the mat
04:19you use as a base.
04:20Very sticky.
04:22Some candy capsules
04:23and then the pen itself.
04:26So candy goes in here
04:27and then Reece,
04:28a professional chef,
04:30is going to see
04:30if he can beat my
04:31little wooden dinosaur.
04:33While we zoom,
04:34over to the next product.
04:36That joke will make sense
04:37in like one minute.
04:39Because while the biro
04:40is something that I did manage
04:41to play with as a kid,
04:42Heelys, on the other hand,
04:43the famous shoes
04:44that have wheels built inside of them,
04:46were something that I never managed
04:47to convince my parents
04:48to get me.
04:49I'm actually a little bit surprised
04:50they even make these in my size.
04:51So there are grown men
04:52buying Heelys.
04:56Oh,
04:56I can see my parents'
04:57reservations with this.
04:58But then $300
05:00can buy you
05:00the 2025 future version
05:02of that concept.
05:03The Zoom,
05:04get it now?
05:05Hover shoes.
05:06Goodness me,
05:07this thing is about
05:08five times the way
05:09to the already
05:09very heavy Heely shoes.
05:11So you've seen
05:11those hoverboards, right?
05:13The ones that...
05:14Whoa,
05:15where is it going?
05:16What?
05:17Does it need recalibrating?
05:19Excuse me, sir.
05:19Bye, have a great time.
05:21So like hoverboards,
05:22these things self-balance themselves
05:23using an internal gyroscope.
05:25Except there's two of them.
05:27One for each foot.
05:30This feels like a problem.
05:31In theory,
05:32this should allow me
05:32to go at up to
05:33seven miles per hour,
05:34which doesn't sound fast,
05:36but think of it this way.
05:37A fast walk
05:38is about half of that.
05:39Okay,
05:39it's my hover shoes
05:40versus Drisha's Heelys.
05:42This is future
05:43versus past.
05:44I'm going to smoke
05:45his Pokemon loving arse.
05:47Drisha doesn't stand
05:48a chance.
05:50I'm just so used to winning.
05:52Three,
05:53two,
05:54one,
05:55go.
05:56Oh my God,
05:57this is scary.
05:58This is scary.
05:59Never actually put my speed
05:59to the test like this.
06:01Oh,
06:01yeah.
06:07I win.
06:08Good effort.
06:09Man.
06:10These are really fun.
06:11The only real problem
06:12with these compared
06:13to Heelys
06:14is portability.
06:15Heelys are your shoes too
06:16and all you need to do
06:17to transform them
06:18is take the wheels out.
06:19Whereas these
06:20are a little bit
06:21too independent
06:21devices.
06:25Oh no.
06:27Need to go under
06:28your existing shoes.
06:30All things considered though,
06:31deserving,
06:32I think,
06:33a third position.
06:33But now for something
06:35that's not going to make
06:37my life flash
06:38before my eyes,
06:39the Rubik's Cube.
06:41I spent more time
06:43than I'm willing to admit
06:44just aimlessly fooling around
06:46with one of these
06:46until always eventually
06:48giving up
06:48and asking my brother
06:50for help solving it.
06:51But what I found
06:52pretty hard to believe
06:53is that there exists
06:54a $599
06:56sci-fi reimagining
06:58of the Rubik's Cube concept
06:59that swaps those
07:00colored stickers
07:01for displays.
07:02The WOW Cube
07:03Black Edition.
07:04So you take the strip out
07:05to activate it
07:06and this is really heavy.
07:08Oh my god.
07:09It's alive.
07:13So here's what's
07:14blowing my mind
07:14a little bit.
07:15This is a display.
07:17This is a display.
07:18This is a display.
07:19There are 24
07:20individual displays
07:21on this cube
07:22and they're actually
07:23pretty good screens.
07:25Each one has a
07:25240p by 240p resolution
07:27which at this size
07:29actually looks
07:30pretty fantastic.
07:31Specs aside though
07:32can you believe
07:33I'm saying that
07:33for a Rubik's Cube?
07:34Why would you want this?
07:35Oh my god.
07:36So every one of the screens
07:37is also a touchscreen.
07:39Twist to start.
07:41Okay so there's
07:41a ladybird somewhere.
07:43It's following the path
07:44and you have to twist
07:46to change the path
07:47to make sure it constantly
07:48has somewhere new to go.
07:49You definitely can't
07:50knock the fact that
07:51it's a unique
07:51gaming experience.
07:53Is it fun?
07:54I don't know.
07:54I also feel like
07:55compared to the original
07:56Rubik's Cube
07:57something's been lost
07:58in that tactility
07:59and ease of
08:01being able to twist.
08:02Let's try to cut the rope.
08:04And it better be
08:04mind-blowing
08:05because we paid
08:06the equivalent of $40
08:07to get that one game
08:09on this cube.
08:10Oh my god wait.
08:11It has gyrophysics
08:12baked in
08:13so you have to use
08:13the gyro sensors
08:14to make the ball move.
08:15To give them
08:16an ounce of credit
08:16they have had to
08:18completely redesign this game
08:19to work in
08:20cubular format.
08:22But does that make
08:22the game a better
08:23experience?
08:24I don't think it does
08:25in the slightest
08:26to be honest.
08:27All the animations
08:27are running at like
08:2810 frames per second.
08:30Technically speaking
08:31this is phenomenally
08:33impressive.
08:33Every ounce of software
08:35running on this thing
08:36has had to be
08:37custom designed for it.
08:38And funny story
08:38even the official
08:39Rubik's company
08:40thinks so.
08:40They're actually
08:41partnering with
08:42the Wow Cube
08:42to make a Rubik's
08:43branded updated
08:44version of the thing.
08:45Still I have got
08:46zero idea
08:47who this is for.
08:49I just feel like
08:49the beauty of
08:50the Rubik's Cube
08:51is the fact that
08:51it's this cheap
08:52$15 block of plastic
08:54that you're not
08:55too precious spell
08:55and is a good
08:5610 minutes of fun
08:58every now and again.
08:59Then if you're
08:59spending $599
09:01or $499
09:03if you get the
09:03base edition
09:04then I think it
09:04puts far more
09:05pressure on how
09:06good this needs
09:07to be
09:07than a Rubik's
09:08cube can deliver.
09:09I mean this now
09:10has to be better
09:11than like a
09:11Nintendo Switch 2
09:12and it's not
09:13really more portable.
09:15You can't exactly
09:15play split-screen
09:16multiplayer on this
09:17and don't even get
09:18me started on
09:18the game quality.
09:20Okay I
09:21absolutely love
09:22board games.
09:23We've got this
09:23ever-growing collection
09:25of them in our
09:25living room.
09:26And then Drisha
09:26and I literally
09:27track every single
09:28time we play one
09:29of them and then
09:30who won.
09:30This is just an
09:31excuse to show
09:32the fact that
09:32blue pins are
09:33winning.
09:33And I also love
09:34holograms.
09:35I was absolutely
09:36obsessed with them
09:37as a kid and
09:37even to this day
09:38one of our most
09:39viewed YouTube
09:40videos is all
09:41about how to
09:41make one for
09:42your phone.
09:42So imagine
09:43my face when I
09:45found out about
09:45the Tilt 5
09:46holographic
09:47board game
09:48kit.
09:48So first thing
09:49on top are
09:49what look like
09:50the kickstands.
09:51These are if you
09:52want to angle
09:52your board.
09:54We've got what I
09:55assume is the
09:55actual main
09:56game board
09:57itself and then
09:58everything else.
09:59Two remotes
09:59and two sets
10:00of glasses.
10:05You've got to
10:05love this
10:06website description.
10:07Yeah, they're
10:08effing real.
10:09These are the
10:09holograms you've
10:10been waiting for.
10:10Now it does
10:11still need glasses.
10:12This isn't quite
10:12the I've just
10:13received a
10:14transmission from
10:14Emperor Palpatine
10:15hologram experience.
10:16The way it works
10:17is still pretty
10:18mind-blowing.
10:18So the glasses
10:19connect to your
10:20computer or
10:21Android device.
10:21That's what's
10:22powering the
10:22game.
10:23Your computer
10:23then sends that
10:24information to
10:25the glasses to
10:26just display.
10:27Ah, but see,
10:28this isn't just
10:28two screens
10:29sitting in front
10:30of your eyes.
10:31Each of these
10:31glasses actually
10:32have two tiny
10:33projectors built
10:34into them.
10:34Those projectors
10:35project the image
10:36of the game
10:36onto this board
10:37but thanks to
10:38the special
10:39material that
10:39the board is
10:40made of,
10:40it reflects that
10:41image right back
10:42at you.
10:42So that when you
10:43look through the
10:44glasses you can
10:44see the board
10:45but also the
10:47augmented reality
10:48game being layered
10:49on top of it.
10:49And there's a
10:50very specific
10:51reason why it
10:52works like that.
10:53Okay.
10:55Oh my goodness.
10:57So very first
10:57impression, this
10:58maze thing that
10:58I'm looking at
10:59doesn't quite feel
11:00like it's sitting
11:01and floating here.
11:02It does feel like
11:03I'm looking down
11:03at a game board
11:04and is kind of
11:05getting a little
11:06bit cut off
11:06towards the end.
11:07So because this
11:08is augmented
11:08reality, you can
11:09actually change
11:10the angle you
11:11are from the
11:12puzzle so that
11:13you have a better
11:13view to be able
11:14to solve it from.
11:15That is extremely
11:16unique.
11:16It's not a
11:17bad looking game.
11:18And so the
11:18controller is
11:19gyroscopic and
11:20actually very
11:22responsive I would
11:23say.
11:23Feels at least as
11:24good as what you
11:25would expect from
11:26like Nintendo's
11:26Joy-Cons, as
11:27lower bar as that
11:28may be.
11:29There's a fair bit
11:29of motion blur on
11:30my end as I'm
11:31looking around but
11:32the good news is
11:33that the latency
11:34is really low.
11:35So because the
11:36thing is physically
11:36wired into the
11:37computer that's
11:38powering it, it's
11:39not like I'm
11:39moving my head and
11:40then the image is
11:40updating two seconds
11:41later.
11:42It does feel
11:43almost real.
11:44What's actually
11:44really cool about
11:45this game though is
11:46that it almost
11:46demands that you
11:47take advantage of
11:49the fact that you
11:49can look around
11:50it.
11:50Oh yeah, look at
11:51that.
11:52So I think a big
11:53part of the reason
11:54they make these
11:55work the way they
11:55did is so that you
11:57can have true
11:57occlusion.
11:58Like I put my
11:59hands in front of
12:00these and because
12:01the hands are
12:02physically blocking
12:03the projection, it
12:04actually makes them
12:04feel like they are
12:05in front of these
12:06virtual objects as
12:08opposed to if it
12:08was just two
12:09screens where the
12:10screens would be
12:10in front.
12:11Oh, hello.
12:12So very first
12:13impressions.
12:14It's actually
12:14off right now.
12:15Whoa, okay.
12:17I was expecting
12:18it to be up, but
12:19it's going down.
12:20That was my
12:20thought as well.
12:21You're looking in.
12:21Yeah.
12:22Oh, this is really
12:23cool.
12:23Yeah, it reminds me
12:24a lot of the arcade
12:24table we had, but
12:25actually better.
12:27Graphically speaking,
12:28more impressive than
12:29I was expecting.
12:30How do I explode?
12:31Oi!
12:31There we go.
12:32Oh, the game is fun,
12:34but how much is it
12:35actually adding to the
12:37experience that it's
12:38augmented reality?
12:39I guess the best way to
12:40test that theory is if
12:41we actually open up a
12:42board game.
12:43Okay, so I can see
12:44three cards.
12:45Oh, whoa.
12:45And you see three
12:46cards.
12:46No, I just see this
12:47castle in the middle,
12:48but I don't see anything.
12:49Oh, okay.
12:50Well, I suppose that's
12:50one tangible benefit of
12:52augmented reality then.
12:53Like, it can hide your
12:54viewpoint.
12:55As opposed to hiding
12:55your cards.
12:56Yes, but for lazy
12:57people who forget.
12:59And so what the glasses
12:59are doing is essentially
13:00using these patterns of
13:02dots around the edges
13:02of the board to
13:03identify where they are
13:05in relation to each
13:06other.
13:07But still, it's cool
13:08seeing that in action.
13:08I can see three cards
13:09here.
13:10I can see my board
13:11over here.
13:12Yeah, all I see is
13:13two pillars.
13:13Wow.
13:14I think it needs to be
13:15a bit slicker.
13:16Like, there's a chance
13:17that this is cool,
13:18but it still feels
13:19like old tech.
13:20It feels like a proof
13:21of concept as opposed
13:22to something I would
13:23recommend you buy.
13:24But prove it's concept,
13:25it does.
13:26Yeah, I just feel like
13:27the way that we play
13:28board games, you don't
13:29want to be strapped to
13:30a headset the whole time.
13:31We kind of play them
13:32to switch off from the
13:33tech.
13:34And the tech isn't
13:35actually transforming
13:36what the game is,
13:37which means
13:38again, no podium.
13:41Let's have a look at
13:42this.
13:42Ooh, cupcake looks
13:44insane.
13:45Looks like this has
13:46been a bit of a
13:47challenge, the actual
13:47printing.
13:48What's your assessment
13:49of this?
13:49Good product or not?
13:50It's not that great.
13:51It's too thick, so
13:52when you're trying to
13:53hold it, it's just not
13:54comfortable to sit in the
13:55hand and push the
13:56button.
13:56It's like drawing with a
13:57pen that's like this.
13:58So what about the
13:58process of actually
13:59trying to build a 3D
14:00shape with it?
14:01It just kind of sinks in
14:02on itself.
14:03It doesn't harden quick
14:04enough to be able to
14:05build a 3D shape up.
14:06The key thing that was
14:07really good about the
14:08Free Doodler is the fact
14:09that it was hardening
14:09instantly.
14:10As soon as it stops
14:11being able to do that,
14:12I guess it loses its
14:13entire purpose a little
14:14bit.
14:14Yeah.
14:15So the only way then
14:15to build a 3D shape
14:16with this would be to
14:17build lots of 2D
14:18shapes and then stick
14:19them together.
14:20Yeah, pretty much.
14:21Cupcake looks good
14:22though.
14:22I'll take that.
14:24Now, if you know me,
14:24you'll know that I was
14:25super sporty as a kid.
14:27Chess is a sport.
14:29Look it up.
14:29But when I could
14:31occasionally drag myself
14:32away from the grid for
14:34a couple of hours, I
14:35loved going to my
14:35friend's house who had
14:36a basketball hoop.
14:37Something like this.
14:38So it comes with a
14:39bunch of accessories, a
14:40mini ball, a mini net,
14:41and then the hoop.
14:42Oh.
14:45We'll get another one.
14:46And then this is the
14:48hoop mini.
14:49I don't know in what
14:50world this counts as
14:51miniature, but this is
14:53the first smart basketball
14:54hoop games console.
14:56And it's also $799.
15:02It does kind of look a
15:03bit like someone's just
15:04taken an old iPad and
15:05then stuck a basketball
15:06hoop to it.
15:07But it is a lot more
15:08than that in theory.
15:09It's got stereo speakers
15:10here and here.
15:11It's got multiple shock
15:12absorbing layers in front
15:13of the display.
15:14And then, of course,
15:15AI-powered sensors that
15:16track your shots.
15:17Probably the best part of
15:18this thing, and also the
15:20reason it's so damn
15:21heavy, is that it's
15:22battery powered, which
15:23does give you a lot of
15:24flexibility.
15:24It means that you can just
15:26find a door that you'd
15:27like the look of and
15:27wedge it on top of it
15:29without having to worry
15:30too much about then
15:31also being near a main
15:32socket.
15:33Oh, wow.
15:33It's a mini ball, but it
15:35is a vast step up in
15:36quality from the cheap
15:37one that we got with
15:38the $20 hoop.
15:39I'm pretty sure they
15:40drew on the lines just
15:41before they sent it.
15:42Little bounce test.
15:44Yeah.
15:45Stick with this.
15:47Oh, he shoots, he
15:48scores.
15:49So that's one point.
15:50And so if I step
15:51further back,
15:54that's still a one
15:55pointer.
15:56Oh, so what made
16:00that two pointers?
16:01Well, that gives me some
16:02doubt over the quality of
16:03the sensors.
16:04We'll say as well, not
16:05particularly impressed with
16:06the viewing angles of
16:07this screen.
16:08iPad-like in form factor,
16:09but very much sub-iPad-like
16:11in performance.
16:12Is that me?
16:13For the uncanny valley
16:14version of Nintendo's
16:15Miis, speakers are
16:17absolutely terrible.
16:20Oh my God, I'm against
16:21someone.
16:21Wait, so they've scored
16:22five.
16:23I've scored 0.2.
16:24What the?
16:26Oh, this is just
16:26ridiculous.
16:27I guess it makes sense.
16:28I mean, average purchaser
16:30of an $800 digital
16:31basketball hoop is probably
16:32going to be pretty into
16:33basketball.
16:34I think this is a more
16:35social product than the
16:36Rubik's Cube.
16:37The ability to master it
16:39and then hand it over to
16:40your friend who comes over
16:41and watch them never be
16:43able to beat your high
16:43score.
16:44I can see the appeal.
16:45Plus, you know, online
16:46playing and leaderboards,
16:47et cetera.
16:48But I think it falls into the
16:49same trap as the Rubik's
16:51Cube.
16:51This thing is priced at not
16:52just the equivalent now of a
16:53major games console, but
16:55significantly more than one.
16:56And it seems like they're
16:57very aware of that.
16:57They actually directly compare
16:59it to a games console on
17:00their website in one of the
17:02strangest, most one-sided
17:03side-by-sides I've ever
17:04seen.
17:05Using an Xbox 360 as the
17:07confetitor.
17:08It also says real reviews from
17:10basketball enthusiasts who
17:11took their game to the next
17:12level and then you scroll down
17:14two inches and everyone's
17:15talking about how it's great
17:16for their kids.
17:16There's clearly some effort
17:17that's gone into creating this
17:19user interface and designing
17:20the way your avatar is going
17:21to look in this basketball
17:23hoop, but it just feels lost
17:24somewhere between games
17:26console, professional
17:27basketball equipment, and
17:28smart TV.
17:29It is actually kind of cool
17:30that you can load up
17:31YouTube on your basketball
17:32hoop and even your
17:34basketball user interface on
17:35top of that YouTube video
17:37on the hoop so that you can
17:38do both at the same time.
17:41But who would want this?
17:42What kind of person has
17:43$799 to spend on a mini
17:46indoor basketball hoop that
17:48doesn't have access to a
17:49significantly better TV,
17:51significantly better
17:52speakers, and ones that
17:53don't require you to bend at
17:54a 45 degree angle?
17:57No podium for you.
17:59Another fun fact from my
18:00extremely colorful childhood,
18:02I used to very regularly
18:03play the keyboard.
18:04That is until I realized
18:05drums were like a thousand
18:07times cooler an instrument.
18:08It's been long enough now
18:09that this is my best
18:10rendition.
18:11So let's see if we can fix
18:22my very obvious skill issue
18:24by paying mountains of cash
18:25to buy the smartest keyboard
18:27that mankind has ever
18:29manufactured.
18:30This is the Rollie.
18:31And to be fair, the
18:32presentation feels
18:33phenomenally premium.
18:36And the product too, it's
18:37so freaking minimal.
18:39So this is their smaller piano,
18:41which has been available for
18:41a while, but we don't do
18:44things by halves here.
18:45This is your first look at
18:47the company's full-size piano.
18:48Seeing the keys light up
18:49like that is so freaking sick.
18:51This is Bluetooth mode.
18:52This majestic waves.
18:54So the idea is that it's a
18:55piano that connects to a
18:57mobile app and uses
18:58different colored lights so
18:59that you can see which notes
19:00you should be playing.
19:01Kind of like Guitar Hero,
19:02but Guitar Hero that actually
19:04teaches you how to play a real
19:05instrument.
19:06Also this, the app is
19:07beautifully designed.
19:09Very smooth.
19:09Oh my god.
19:10So this isn't just a video.
19:12This is a video that is
19:13interacting with the real
19:14board.
19:14When she says to play the
19:16blue note, the blue note is
19:17glowing.
19:17I feel like I'm learning the
19:18muscle memory.
19:21Here's the Guitar Hero in
19:22action.
19:23And if they had this back in
19:24the day, I feel like the
19:25keyboard would have been a
19:26way cooler option.
19:27And so this is all part of
19:28the lessons, which honestly,
19:30it feels like I could scroll
19:31forever.
19:31There was so much going on
19:33here.
19:33But then also if you just
19:34want to play a song, you go
19:35into the search section and
19:37you type one.
19:38For example.
19:42Oh my god.
19:44That's crazy.
19:46So there's three modes.
19:48You either watch where it
19:49plays for you, you practice
19:50where you play, or you
19:51challenge where it tests you.
19:53I'm actually so blown away by
19:55this piece of tech.
19:56So it starts off by showing
19:58you notes in the kind of
19:59cascade format, you know, like
20:00Guitar Hero.
20:01But then it's got a system to
20:02slowly lead you from that
20:04into just reading notes off a
20:05page.
20:06The thought that's gone into
20:07this is just wild.
20:08And yet this does have an
20:09extra subscription cost that
20:11you have to pay for an extra
20:12$10 a month.
20:13But at the same time,
20:15considering how useful I could
20:16see this being and how
20:18equivalent to actually going
20:19and getting piano lessons, I
20:21can so see that being worth
20:22it.
20:23Side note, I have a lot of
20:24respect for how they've done
20:24the LEDs here.
20:25They're firing from the top
20:27into the translucent key
20:29chambers so that you never
20:31actually see the LEDs
20:32themselves.
20:33Probably the most tasteful way
20:34they could have done it.
20:35I also think it's functional
20:36because it means that you're
20:38never blocking the light.
20:39So even if your finger is on
20:40the key, you can still always
20:42see what key is lit.
20:43They've even got a music
20:44playground.
20:46That is delightful.
20:47And it's even got dark mode.
20:49It really didn't have to.
20:50You know, normally when you get
20:51products like this that feel a
20:52little Kickstarter-y, the apps
20:55are very janky and not very
20:57well fleshed out.
20:57What's surprising me is that this
20:59isn't that.
21:00Then there's another level to
21:01it.
21:02This is the Airwave, which when
21:04added to the piano, makes this
21:05a $948 experience without even
21:09factoring in the subscription.
21:11But this is kind of nutty because
21:13this has an infrared camera
21:15system at the top, which means
21:17that the keyboard now not just
21:18knows what I'm pressing, but
21:19where all 27 joints in each of
21:22my hands are at 90 frames per
21:25second, it can then correct for
21:27the buildup of bad posture and
21:29bad placement habits, which if
21:30you think about it is like the
21:31only remaining hurdle that
21:33comes from trying to teach
21:35yourself how to play an
21:36instrument.
21:36You can actually change the
21:37color of your hands.
21:40How incredibly inclusive.
21:42Now you try.
21:43Can you align your hand with the
21:44outline?
21:45Hold up.
21:45Try with your ring finger.
21:47Oh my God.
21:49Perfect.
21:53Hang on.
21:53Use your index finger.
21:54It knows the millisecond I've made
21:56a mistake and exactly what I need
21:58to do to make it better.
22:00And so compared to these three, I
22:02think piano has to go right into
22:07first place.
22:07If you're going to spend a ton of
22:09money on a toy, that's the way to
22:10do it.
22:11Now, when I say chess set to you,
22:12you probably think of something like
22:13this, $10 and packaged kind of like a
22:16box of cookies.
22:17If you're seriously into the game,
22:18you might spend $100 on a
22:20tournament grade chess set.
22:21In the previous Extreme Toys video,
22:23we even went as far as to spend $600
22:25to buy an electromagnetic chess
22:27board where every piece was
22:28magnetic and could be moved
22:30autonomously thanks to a carefully
22:31controlled magnet under the board.
22:33But the chestnut move is what
22:36happens when you spend $1,099.
22:39Wow.
22:39You even got like apple style peels
22:41on the back of it.
22:43It's kind of cool.
22:45It's taking something old school
22:46and then fusing it with very
22:48contemporary influences.
22:49And then, ooh, this is where the
22:53magic happens.
22:54Each one of these 34 pieces, 34
22:57because it includes one extra
22:58queen for each side, is essentially
23:00their own autonomous robot with
23:02wheels.
23:03Which means, let's say I've just
23:05finished playing a game here.
23:06I should be able to, in theory,
23:09make the board set itself up again.
23:12Holy.
23:15Notice how like not a single piece
23:16is colliding with one another.
23:18That's because every single one
23:19has its own ID and an awareness
23:21of where it is in relation to
23:23others.
23:24Still, this does feel like something
23:25straight out of a Harry Potter movie.
23:27The pieces are like perfectly
23:28aligned in the center.
23:30Adjust, adjust, adjust, adjust,
23:31adjust.
23:31I used to do that every tournament I
23:33played, by the way, like 10 minutes
23:34before the match started.
23:35And I should also be able to say
23:37horn from E2 to E4.
23:41This is the sickest chessboard I've
23:43ever seen.
23:43Let's see what happens if I leave
23:44that horn unguarded.
23:46This feels like magic.
23:47And it all happens in a much
23:48smoother way than it did on the
23:50previous magnetic chess set.
23:51The thing that's really good about
23:52this is that it can be on voice
23:54mode.
23:54So it's listening out for me,
23:55telling it what pieces to move
23:57where.
23:57But it doesn't seem to get caught
23:59out by conversation happening at the
24:00same time.
24:01So I've had this whole conversation
24:02with you.
24:02Now I'm going to say D2 to D4.
24:04And it knows.
24:05It understands that chess is not a
24:07silent sport.
24:08It's pretty fair to say that this
24:09unsurprisingly is the coolest
24:11chess set I've ever interacted
24:13with.
24:13You can even connect it to your
24:14chess.com profile and play your
24:16online games offline or get it to
24:18set up puzzles for you to solve
24:20on your real board.
24:21The pieces are actually so polite.
24:23They like make sure they don't touch
24:25each other.
24:25They're quite British, actually,
24:26if you think about it.
24:27Pieces themselves feel fine.
24:29You know, they're made of wood.
24:30They're not super heavy and
24:32luxury, but that probably makes
24:33them easier to move around.
24:34Would I recommend you buy one
24:36though?
24:36OK, not for most people.
24:37For most people, this is not
24:39solving an important problem like
24:41the Rollie keyboard is, which you
24:43could very strongly argue is a very
24:45good investment into your future.
24:47And it introduces new problems.
24:48Like one of the key perks of this is
24:49that it's meant to make your life
24:50easier, right?
24:51It's moving for you.
24:52But then it's got a charging pad
24:54and you now have 34 robotic pieces
24:56and a chessboard that you need to make
24:58sure are always charged.
24:59But it's incredibly ambitious.
25:01It's very cool.
25:03And it does have functional benefit.
25:05Like, let's say I wanted to play
25:07online against another person while
25:09using a physical chessboard.
25:11This is absolutely the best way of
25:13doing that.
25:14And that is functionally beneficial.
25:15Like when I used to play tournament
25:16chess, it was always better to be
25:18practicing on a physical three
25:20dimensional board as opposed to on
25:21your phone, because it would be
25:23training you to spot patterns when
25:25looking at the 3D board, which is
25:26what you would be doing in a
25:27tournament.
25:28Just want to flag I'm not trying to
25:29win here.
25:30I wanted to see how well it would
25:31take my pieces.
25:32Is it more impressive than the
25:33plane?
25:35I'd say yeah.
25:36Is it more impressive than the gun?
25:38Yeah, to be fair.
25:40Second place.
25:42But if I had to guess where we've
25:43seen the single biggest leap in
25:45toys since childhood, it's got to
25:47be gaming.
25:48I mean, this here Game Boy Advance,
25:49this was my main console growing up.
25:51I was so proud of owning one.
25:53It was basically the most desirable
25:54toy in the world.
25:55Priced at around $180 worth in
25:57today's money.
25:58But now you can spend more.
26:01Quite a lot more.
26:02$2,000 to be precise.
26:04And get yourself a handheld that is
26:05many, many generations more
26:07advanced.
26:08The One X Player X1 Pro.
26:11So this is actually meant to be
26:12three things in one.
26:13A tablet.
26:14It's a strange experience using it
26:15as one because it's, I mean,
26:16beautiful screen, very slick, very
26:19fast, but it's a bit of a
26:21chonker.
26:21But if you're buying this, you can't
26:23just use it to watch movies on a
26:24plane.
26:25If you're going to do that, you
26:26should just buy an iPad.
26:27But form factor number two is a
26:29work laptop.
26:30So that wedges into there.
26:32Nice, solid connection.
26:33And then you've got a kickstand at
26:34the back.
26:35Look at that.
26:36It's a fairly smart looking
26:38laptop experience.
26:39I mean, a proper hinge is always
26:40going to be better than a kickstand
26:41because this makes it pretty funny
26:43if you're trying to work in the
26:44car on your lap.
26:44It's giving Facebook mom right
26:47here, especially very counter to
26:49extreme RGB gamer that the rest of
26:51the tablet's giving off.
26:52The keyboard feels inoffensive.
26:54It's pretty similar, actually, to
26:56what you might get on a MacBook.
26:58Oh, no way.
27:02What am I even doing?
27:03I'm typing Hello Kitty song onto
27:05YouTube.
27:05It's quite unwarranted.
27:06This is diabolical.
27:08This trackpad requires so much
27:10force to push.
27:12Oh, God, that is bad.
27:14But the main thing you'd be buying
27:16something like the X1 Pro 4 is
27:18gaming.
27:19This, in theory, should be leagues
27:21ahead of consoles like the
27:22Nintendo Switch 2 and even the
27:24more powerful Steam Deck.
27:25Too sure about those controllers.
27:26They feel lighter and cheaper
27:28than the tablet itself.
27:29But for a bit of context, while the
27:31Steam Deck OLED is using an AMD Zen 2
27:33chip from 2019, this is using Zen 5
27:37architecture with quadrupled RAM.
27:39It's like a very serious machine.
27:41For one of the stranger comparisons
27:42we've done today, this is Doom
27:44running on the Game Boy Advance.
27:46I've forgotten what life was like
27:47before the backlight.
27:48But I remember at the time thinking
27:50to myself how big of a deal this
27:52game was.
27:53Still, one of the first ever
27:54instances of a 3D shooter being
27:57playable on a handheld console.
27:58So what does Doom look like on
28:01the X1 Pro?
28:02Buttons are very nice and clicky.
28:04And also, one crucial advantage here
28:06over the Nintendo Switch and the
28:07Steam Deck is hall effect joysticks.
28:09They're basically the holy grail of
28:10controller tech.
28:11It means that instead of mechanical
28:12joysticks, these are based on
28:14magnets and then measuring changes
28:16to the magnetic fields, which is a
28:18lot more precise than the
28:19alternative, plus less wearing out
28:22over time.
28:22Okay, so obviously an enormous step
28:25up from the Game Boy Advance.
28:26It's very impressive and a very
28:28immersive gaming experience,
28:30especially considering like you
28:31could have this while sitting on a
28:32plane with no internet connection.
28:34But I wouldn't say graphically
28:36speaking, this is like a generation
28:38beyond the Steam Deck.
28:39It might be why they haven't yet
28:40launched a successor to the Steam Deck.
28:42They might just be waiting for there
28:43to be enough of a tangible
28:44performance game to make it feel
28:46next-gen.
28:47So it's not mind-blowing, but it's
28:49pretty great.
28:50How does it handle glare?
28:52Not particularly well, actually.
28:53Might struggle in the backseat of a car.
28:56And the other factor is like screen
28:58this massive, large fan blowing,
29:00high-powered chip.
29:01You're only going to get two to two
29:03and a half hours of gameplay per
29:05charge.
29:05Probably not quite deserving of a
29:07podium, I'm afraid.
29:09However, if you thought that was
29:10expensive, I am here to regretfully
29:13inform you that I have just spent
29:14$5,000 of my own money on a single
29:18Nerf gun.
29:19It's a pretty special Nerf gun.
29:21So this is a normal Nerf bluster.
29:23You can literally buy two of these
29:25for $12.
29:25And I would probably say if you get
29:27fast enough with this, you could
29:28probably get one shot off every...
29:32That wasn't bad.
29:34Every two seconds.
29:35Okay, Steve, you take that one.
29:37I apologize because for around $60,
29:40you can then go for something a lot
29:41fancier in Nerf's ultra range.
29:43This is also using Nerf's much
29:45further firing ultra darts.
29:47Not to mention the thing is full
29:48auto, so you should be able to fire
29:49about four times faster.
29:53Literally two darts per second.
29:55All right, Joseph, that's yours.
29:57Sorry.
29:58And so what on earth could you
30:00possibly want to pay $5,000 for?
30:03Well, in this box is the MOAB, the
30:06mother of all blasters, which burns
30:09through so much ammo that it actually
30:11has to have a backpack mounted
30:12ammo chamber.
30:16And just like the mother of all
30:17blasters is about to protect me from
30:19these guys, the mother of all VPNs,
30:21the Surfshark, is designed to protect
30:22you from, well, let's be honest,
30:24people like them when you're browsing
30:26online.
30:26There's honestly a shocking number of
30:28parallels when you really think about
30:29it.
30:29Practically unlimited ammunition here
30:31with a 500 dart capacity.
30:33Just like with Surfshark, you can
30:34install it on an unlimited number of
30:36devices.
30:36You don't need to keep count.
30:37Tasty peel here.
30:39Those darts feed into the gun via
30:40these belts automatically, just like
30:42Surfshark has AutoConnect.
30:43As soon as you connect to the
30:44internet, it can run your traffic
30:46through the fastest, safest network
30:48without even needing to open the app.
30:50And this thing has six motorized
30:51rotating barrels for a multi-prong
30:54attack.
30:54Just like Surfshark has multiple layers
30:56of security, IP masking and malware
30:58protection when you're browsing with it.
30:59So go to surfshark.com slash boss for
31:02four extra months of Surfshark for free.
31:04Okay.
31:04The game is last man standing.
31:06You take one hit and you're out.
31:11Three, two, one.
31:13Go.
31:13Oh my God.
31:27I was like ready for it, but I still
31:30wasn't ready for it.
31:31I think I won.
31:33That is 50 darts per second.
31:37Now we just got to clean this up.
31:38This is like the most extreme version
31:40of the toy that your mom doesn't want
31:41you to have.
31:43I think it's pretty obvious what we
31:44need to do here.
31:45Is it niche?
31:46Absolutely.
31:47But that is the best nine seconds of my
31:51life.
31:52It really is the embodiment of what
31:54this video stands for.
31:55Yeah.
31:57It really is the best nine seconds of yours.
31:58Yeah.
32:00It really is the.
32:01Yeah.
32:03Yeah.
32:04Yeah.
32:04Yeah.
32:08Yeah.
32:15Yeah.
