00:00Sports Scene. Welcome to Sports Scene.
00:06Welcome to... Welcome to Sports Scene.
00:08Sports Scene is 50... I'll try it again.
00:11Welcome to Sports Scene.
00:13Do you mind if I ask what you're doing?
00:15I've got this really important link to do for the show tonight.
00:18It's the 50th anniversary of Sports Scene.
00:20They've got cake and everything downstairs.
00:21I need to just get this right.
00:22Just loosen up, relax into it.
00:24Chill out a bit?
00:25Yeah.
00:26Welcome to... 50 years... Welcome to Sports Scene.
00:30It's 50 years of Sports Scene.
00:32Do you mind if I have a go?
00:34You can have a go if you want. It's not easy, though.
00:40Hello. Good to have you with us.
00:42Welcome to Sports Scene at 50.
00:56We'll be back.
00:57Yeah.
00:58It's 40 years ago, Sharon.
00:59This is 50 years ago, Ned Bowie and Jack Worifley.
01:03There's so many toys that sometimes have fun for us.
01:08There's so many toys that you can get in there.
01:10Here's so many toys that have sex on.
01:12Well, the toys would reach you to watch.
01:15They came with us extra pounds.
01:17They came with us and we paid for Detonations.
01:18Don't like someone put me in the club...
01:20You can be Georgie, you're so many Tahirotans who are going to play.
01:22Let's play something right.
01:24Good evening. Yes, this is happening.
01:29For those of you who may be thinking, I know him from somewhere,
01:33I'm Dougie Donnelly.
01:33A very warm welcome to Sports Scene on this, the 9th of August, 2025.
01:3850 years to the day since Sports Scene first hit your screens.
01:43Over the next hour, we'll bring you the best of today's action
01:46from the Premiership and maybe a few surprises along the way.
01:50Joining me to unpick it all are a couple of absent friends.
01:54And a man returning to his pundit role, Stephen Thompson.
01:58And a man simply returning, my old strike partner,
02:01the legendary tactics maestro, Gordon Smith.
02:05We begin the action in Paisley, where Motherwell visited St Mirren.
02:09My pleasure to tell you that your commentator for this one
02:12is the legendary Archie McPherson.
02:14CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
02:16At the moment, we seem to be having a problem with the St Mirren game.
02:30Tomo, can you help?
02:32Let me just try, Dougie.
02:34Hello?
02:35Aye, I see.
02:37OK.
02:39Right, OK, don't let it happen again.
02:40Right, we're on.
02:41We're on, Dougie.
02:41That all seems very familiar.
02:45Here's Archie.
02:47Archie Gammel at the back.
02:49Good play by Gammel.
02:50Great play by Gammel.
02:52Can he do it?
02:52He's done it!
02:53Oh, a great goal!
02:55The Lord won this time.
02:57And that's it!
02:5820 seconds from the air in back of Eddie Douglas.
03:03Meanwhile, the reputation of the town's bridey is well-deserved.
03:08I hope that's made of English oak, or else the crossbar's going to go.
03:13Whoop!
03:13Oh, the crossbar's gone.
03:15Come on, Jim, give us a smile.
03:17He's done it.
03:18Well, it's a half smile.
03:19Well, you believe me, there's nothing quite like this anywhere in the world.
03:25And this is now like the scene out of Apocalypse Now.
03:29And we sat back and waited for a wonderful game.
03:36It would almost give you travel sickness looking at the pedigree of all these players coming onto the pitch
03:42because so many in both clubs have played abroad with so many clubs.
03:47But they're welcome because that's the way Scottish football is going.
03:53Now, Sudmourne played very well against Celtic defensively,
03:56but I would expect their supporters want them more in the front foot in this particular game.
04:02They brought Miguel Crickleton into defence.
04:06And at number seven, Idogu, the man who scored the goal that puts Sudmourne back in the top six for the third year in succession.
04:17And here are the men with a couple of exceptions who made a ringer's manager do his nut about his own side last week at Perth Park.
04:26And the man who scored the goal, Longelo, indicating that Malleble are indeed still searching for a regular number nine.
04:37Very windy day here in Paisley.
04:41What can the goalkeeper do with that?
04:42Is it too long?
04:45It's still in trouble.
04:47And there is Ohara!
04:50Oh, dear.
04:51Oh, well, should he have scored?
04:55Well, I'm in a charitable anniversary mood, and I think this was a difficult one.
05:02He had to take it on the half volley.
05:05That's never an easy chance to take.
05:08And I don't need to be told Maradona would, of course, put this one away.
05:17Now, he's been very tight in midfield.
05:21And negative.
05:22You're always feeling that somebody might just make the breakthrough.
05:28With Slattery having made that move.
05:32And there is inside Saeeda.
05:36Clever little run by Saeeda!
05:40Well, well, well, he might well have squared that.
05:44But he went for a little chink between goalkeeper and post.
05:49But unfortunately, no chink was there.
05:53Malleble.
05:55The much more aggressive but likely side to score in this game.
05:58But everything has been so tight at the fence.
06:02But this is a run by Maswahisi.
06:06Looking for support inside.
06:08Goes himself.
06:10Now, very poor effort.
06:11Which I think illustrates how poor the quality has been in the box and in that area.
06:20Maswahisi, of course, a bustling little player.
06:23He's got aggression.
06:24But he lacked support just inside him.
06:28And he had to go himself.
06:33Well, Sid Meierden have been slightly better in the second half.
06:38That's for sure.
06:38But against what has been a well-organized multiple defense.
06:43He's playing it around very dangerously at the moment.
06:49Oh, what's Stephen O'Donnell doing?
06:51Oh, here's a chance now.
06:53Eben Mooney.
06:55And there's a shot.
06:56Coming in there by Mandraun.
06:58And after a great position, a corner kick.
07:05No real dividend from this move.
07:07And that's what has been letting Sid Meierden down.
07:13They've had no chances.
07:14Very few of them.
07:16And squandered them.
07:20Still on the attack now.
07:22Much, much improved Sid Meierden's side.
07:25This is Sabahuel.
07:28There are men inside there.
07:32That's where they've been falling down.
07:34They can't make contact with anybody inside the box.
07:37Well, the mother will play him as fun.
07:42He sees a determined little man.
07:45He's there and he's brought down.
07:47Inevitably, a yellow card.
07:53And that's what mother will have on the counter attack.
07:55And they've got to be very careful, Sid Meierden.
08:00This little man, a constant usage to them and that breakaway.
08:05The trouble is he lacks a point inside of them.
08:10Free kick.
08:13Slattery to take.
08:17Up he goes.
08:20Well, well, well.
08:21It curled round the defensive wall.
08:27And it's always difficult for a goalkeeper to take.
08:30That's a man who's very alert.
08:37He's got men inside of him who wants to go himself.
08:40That's pushed ahead.
08:45A younger.
08:48Back is.
08:49Oh!
08:51Boone.
08:5217-year-old kid who's learning his profession.
08:57I don't remember that one.
08:58I don't blame for that.
08:59He just had to act instinctively as the ball came towards him.
09:03Well, you know, they've had so few opportunities, I think.
09:10Sorry, Evan.
09:11I must put that down to a glaring miss.
09:15Oh, I don't think Steve Robinson will be too hard on the boy.
09:19Corner kick.
09:21Kieran Phillips to take this.
09:24A little bit short.
09:27Motherwell with a clearance.
09:29Still not fully away.
09:30Here's McManaman.
09:34And...
09:34Jogic!
09:37So near.
09:39Oh, this goalkeeper.
09:40I must say, Callum Ward was great against Celtic.
09:44And I think he's proving today
09:46it was no flash in the pan.
09:49We're saved like that.
09:56Just over five minutes remaining of a hardly memorable game.
10:00Although I don't want to be too hard on them.
10:02It's the beginning of the season
10:03and I knew this was going to be hard fought
10:06with the emphasis on physicality,
10:10discipline, organisation.
10:14Up it goes.
10:15Headed down there.
10:16Iunga.
10:17Kill your first.
10:20No, it was never going to reach the net.
10:23Not by that kind of goalkeeper.
10:25Between the sticks.
10:26He took it well.
10:30Not enough angle on it.
10:33Jens Beltolasco.
10:36Perplexed.
10:37And no wonder.
10:42Still, St. Mürnheim,
10:43the better of the latter stages of the game.
10:46Here it is, Bacchus.
10:51No test for such a fine goalkeeper.
10:54Not angled enough.
10:56And it summarises, I think,
10:59the way that St. Mürnheim
11:01have tried to attack this defence.
11:03Still the counter-attack possible
11:11by Motherwell
11:12as the final whistle goes.
11:15You know, I'm not utterly surprised
11:17that this ended in a draw.
11:19The teams are so alike in very many ways.
11:23But, you know,
11:24on this special occasion,
11:26for my sake,
11:27I would have loved to see a goal
11:29and talk about it.
11:30Even a crazy own goal.
11:33It wouldn't have mattered
11:33as long as the ball
11:35hit the back of the net.
11:36So, with a feeling of deprivation,
11:39I end this quality
11:40with a final score
11:42I didn't want to give you.
11:45St. Mürnheim nil.
11:46Motherwell nil.
11:49The quality, I didn't think,
11:51was great
11:51from the other side.
11:54When we had opportunities to play,
11:56it was difficult
11:56when you go to put people through.
11:58It was blustering wins.
11:59It's the only thing
12:00that kills football,
12:01unfortunately.
12:02But that's not an excuse.
12:03We're still better
12:04than what we showed.
12:05We're a more creative team
12:06than what we showed.
12:08And players will play better
12:08than what they showed today.
12:09We know that.
12:10But all in all,
12:11we take a point.
12:12Could have won
12:13with half the chances we got.
12:14But we didn't.
12:15So we go again
12:16and we'll get better for that.
12:17I think we played
12:18some really good football
12:19at times
12:19and, as you said,
12:21were difficult conditions.
12:22The pitch is actually
12:23really, really good.
12:24But obviously,
12:25it was dry in the first half
12:26and a lot of wind
12:28from all sorts of directions.
12:30So it made it...
12:31There were some odd situations
12:33now and then
12:33when the ball went up
12:34in the air.
12:35They were hard to judge.
12:36But I think,
12:39yeah, again,
12:40fantastic performance,
12:41fantastic support.
12:43900 Motherwell fans
12:44coming here
12:45and supporting us.
12:47Really, really happy
12:49with that as well.
12:510-0.
12:52Always a disappointing outcome,
12:54of course.
12:54But I've got to say, fellas,
12:55I was particularly disappointed.
12:57I thought that was going to be
12:58a cracking game.
12:59And frankly, it wasn't.
13:00Yeah, I feel sorry for Archie.
13:02Coming back,
13:02he doesn't even get
13:03to commentate a goal.
13:04Outrageous.
13:05But his commentary was brilliant.
13:06Yeah, the game was poor.
13:07You heard Steven Robinson
13:08there talking about it.
13:09The wind affected the game,
13:10I think.
13:11The pitch was excellent,
13:12as they both said.
13:13But I think the quality
13:13wasn't quite what it could have been.
13:16Motherwell,
13:16a lot of possession
13:17like they had last week.
13:18But for me,
13:20they didn't do enough
13:20with the possession.
13:21They kept the ball well
13:22in spells.
13:23And yes,
13:23they play nice football.
13:24But there has to be
13:25an end product to it.
13:27And they just didn't have that.
13:28I felt first half poor.
13:30Grew into the game
13:31a wee bit in the second half.
13:32Probably had the better chances.
13:34But nil-nil it.
13:36I think they're two
13:37well-organised teams,
13:38actually.
13:38They do make it difficult
13:39for the opposition.
13:41And St Mirren,
13:41especially where they play
13:42in the back five.
13:43And Gogic,
13:43who plays central
13:44of the three,
13:45is very well-experienced
13:46in terms of closing
13:48everything down,
13:49keeping his defence
13:49in the right position.
13:50And that made it difficult
13:51for Motherwell
13:52to create the chances
13:52they were looking for.
13:53St Mirren being the home team,
13:54you might have expected
13:55they would get more chances.
13:56But the way they play it,
13:57they're very tight.
13:58Both these teams
13:58will be hard to beat.
14:00Yeah.
14:00Motherwell had at one stage
14:01in the match second half
14:0270% possession.
14:04Yeah, I know.
14:04Nothing to show for it.
14:05How frustrating is that?
14:06Yeah, I think that is.
14:07But that's how Motherwell
14:08are going to play this season.
14:10They're going to be
14:11keeping the ball.
14:12They'll have a lot of possession.
14:13I think they're obviously
14:14trying to sign a new striker.
14:15They need to get a striker
14:16through the door.
14:17Because right now,
14:18they are playing nice football,
14:19but it has to lead to something.
14:21Yeah.
14:21Virtually every other club
14:22is looking for a new striker
14:23as well, though.
14:24So it won't be easy.
14:25Let's take a look back
14:26at some of the highlights
14:27of the game then.
14:28Mark O'Hara early on
14:29for St Mirren
14:30and really perhaps
14:31should have done better here.
14:32Yeah, I think he'll know
14:33that himself.
14:33I mean, it's not defended
14:34particularly well,
14:35the situation.
14:36And when the ball falls to Mark,
14:38I can't give him
14:39the out of the wind
14:40for this one.
14:41He just swings at it
14:42with his left foot.
14:43He has maybe off balance
14:44to give him a wee bit
14:46of a let-off,
14:46but he really should be
14:47hitting the target.
14:48He'll know that himself.
14:49It's a big chance.
14:49It's probably one of the best
14:50chances of the game.
14:52Yeah.
14:53And some options here
14:54for Saeed for Motherwell.
14:55And again,
14:56should have done better, Gordon.
14:57He should have, actually.
14:58Watch this.
14:58He starts this move
14:59with playing a nice little
15:00nutmeg there on the player.
15:02Then he makes a good run
15:03into the box.
15:04He's played in.
15:05He holds off the defender
15:06really well,
15:06but he's got these options.
15:08Look at the options he's got now.
15:09The first one is
15:09he could have also played
15:11a nutmeg in the goalkeeper.
15:12The goalkeeper,
15:12his legs open,
15:13he could have made a pass
15:14or he could have gone
15:15for the far corner
15:16with his left foot
15:17and he didn't do either of the three.
15:18Go across the goalie.
15:19How he's gone near post,
15:20I do not know.
15:21No, what he could do,
15:21he could sell a little dummy there
15:22onto his left foot
15:23and then just slide it
15:24into the far corner.
15:25That's what he should have done.
15:26He's got to go far corner regardless.
15:26That's a chance.
15:27That's a real chance.
15:27That's what you two guys
15:28would have done.
15:30So, Mirren, of course,
15:31as we said,
15:32they're always going to be
15:34a difficult team to beat
15:35and they had their chances today.
15:36They did threaten.
15:37Yeah, I felt for young Evan here.
15:40He's a great young player
15:41with a big future,
15:41but this one,
15:43if he watches it back,
15:44maybe he could take a touch.
15:45He's maybe got more time
15:46than he thought he had.
15:47Could he sweep his right foot at it
15:49instead of trying to open up
15:50his left?
15:51But it was a big chance for him,
15:53but it was one,
15:54you know,
15:54difficult when you're
15:56coming at half time.
15:56Yeah, yeah.
15:57Now, this is a real chance as well.
15:59Gogic, who's an excellent defender nowadays.
16:01Started off as a midfield player,
16:02but he's a tremendous sweeper.
16:03But if he heads the ball
16:04anywhere here down the way,
16:06this would be in the net,
16:07I think.
16:07I think he made it easy.
16:08I agree.
16:08He made it easy for the goalkeeper.
16:10Yeah, it was a perfect height
16:10for the goalie,
16:11but anything down the way
16:12and it's a goal.
16:13Yeah, it's one of those saves
16:14that looks pretty spectacular,
16:16but it's actually...
16:17Quite easy, yeah,
16:18because it's at him.
16:19He doesn't keep it.
16:19Aye, he saved it.
16:21All right, 0-0.
16:22Let's hope for better things
16:23as we head to Livingston,
16:24where Falkirk were the visitors
16:25and a clash of the two promoted sides.
16:28Falkirk back in the top flight
16:29after 15 years away,
16:31while back in the big time
16:32for the first time since 1997,
16:35is your match commentator,
16:36Mr Jock Brown.
16:37We'll leave you tonight
16:40with the goals
16:41which have taken Motherwell
16:42through to their first
16:43Scottish Cup final
16:43since 1952.
16:45Baines in trouble,
16:46there's Steve Kink.
16:49The Super Sop has done it again.
16:52Here they cross,
16:52there's Hakeley.
16:54It's a magnificent goal
16:56for Rangers.
16:59Chance for Reitz.
17:011-0 to Kavala.
17:03McAllister to McCoy.
17:05It's a goal for Scotland.
17:07McAllister's done it.
17:10It's a point, too.
17:11It's a little too.
17:12It's a little too.
17:12It's a little too.
17:15The two teams promoted
17:16to the Championship last season
17:18come together
17:18after making a promising start
17:20in the top league last week
17:22with creditable draws.
17:26Two changes for Livingston.
17:28Daniel Finlayson makes way
17:30for Samson Lawal at right back
17:32and Lewis Smith replaces
17:33Mohamed Salah.
17:35Several new recruits
17:36in that Livingston line-up.
17:40Falkirk also have two changes.
17:41Aidan Nisbet comes in
17:43for Scott Arfield in midfield
17:44and Ross McKeever plays up front
17:46instead of Ryan Graham.
17:48But fewer new recruits
17:49in the Falkirk set-up.
17:50An early opportunity
17:55for Falkirk
17:56from the set-piece.
17:58Played in by Miller.
17:59Was a good hitter.
18:01Just way to the target.
18:05Dylan Tate unlucky.
18:08Goalkeeper.
18:09Pryor was scrambling
18:11for that one.
18:17Falkirk made a bright start
18:19to the match.
18:19They look very dangerous indeed.
18:20Ethan Ross now
18:21on the left-hand side.
18:23Quick and sharp.
18:25Retaining possession well.
18:27It's back with Leon McCann.
18:29A chance for McKeever.
18:31Brilliantly saved by Pryor.
18:34Well, Jeremy Pryor
18:35made a very good save
18:37from that celebration.
18:39winning his 30th birthday
18:40yesterday.
18:41And Ross McKeever
18:41was the man denied.
18:47Ross with the layback
18:48was a very good one
18:49to McCann.
18:50That's a delightful cross
18:51from McCann.
18:52McKeever did nothing wrong.
18:54It's good goalkeeping.
18:58Thoughts for John McGlynn
19:00as Calvin Miller
19:01comes again.
19:03And another very good block
19:04at the goal line
19:05by Scott Pittman this time.
19:07The header was by Tate.
19:10And once again
19:12the leverage to defense survives.
19:15But it's a very good start
19:16this from Falkirk.
19:19Miller's left foot
19:20such a weapon.
19:27Played forward by Blaney.
19:29The interception made
19:30in defense.
19:31And this is
19:33Lewis Nielsen now.
19:35All caught in possession.
19:37That's loose
19:38defending by Nielsen.
19:40This is Lewis Smith.
19:42That's a good pass.
19:44A chance from your head.
19:46It's Pittman.
19:49And Livingston have the lead.
19:52Scott Pittman's
19:5353rd goal
19:55for Livingston
19:55in 11 seasons.
19:58And his second
19:59of this season.
20:02Very well created here
20:04in midfield.
20:06Kerry was involved.
20:07Then Lewis Smith
20:08had this chance
20:09to come forward.
20:11Saw Robbie Muirhead
20:11whose angle wasn't good enough
20:13for a shot.
20:13It was a great cutback.
20:15And Pittman reacted fastest.
20:18The Falkirk defense
20:19caught on his heels.
20:22It's very good play
20:23this by Lewis Smith.
20:24Muirhead took up
20:25a very good position.
20:26He knew the angle
20:27was too tight for himself.
20:29An unselfish pass.
20:31And Livingston
20:31to their head.
20:39Livingston trying to
20:41boost that lead.
20:44Good running this
20:44by Montgomery.
20:45This is an opportunity again.
20:49Across it comes to Smith.
20:50brilliant play
20:54from Smith.
20:56Finishing
20:57of the highest
20:58pass.
21:01Well how this game
21:02has turned around
21:03after Falkirk's
21:04very bright start
21:05to the match.
21:06Livingston have taken over.
21:09Good movement here
21:10from Montgomery.
21:12Patient build-up play.
21:13And Smith
21:15allowed to come on
21:16that very powerful
21:17left foot.
21:19Falkirk will regret that.
21:20They didn't close him down
21:22or force him
21:22on his right foot.
21:24Great pass there
21:25by Tate.
21:26And the finish
21:27from Smith.
21:32Superb build-up play
21:34by Livingston.
21:35Another opportunity
21:43now for Muirhead
21:44up front.
21:45Back with Tate.
21:48Lewis Smith
21:48stumbles.
21:50Well some faint
21:51appeals for a penalty
21:52but he clearly
21:53lost his footing.
21:54And he's not
21:55making any complaint.
21:58This is
21:58Robbie Muirhead.
22:00Goes to the goal
22:01himself.
22:03Clips the top
22:04of the crossbar.
22:05He wants to call
22:05a kick.
22:06I don't think
22:06he'll get one.
22:09A very good attempt
22:10but Volker
22:10almost paying
22:11a price
22:11for backing
22:12off him.
22:15Montagna
22:16playing it forward.
22:16That's a very
22:17good spin
22:18and turn.
22:21And the handball
22:22claim is made.
22:23Andy Winter
22:23wants a penalty
22:24kick for that.
22:26That would appear
22:26to be very harsh
22:27indeed.
22:28But this is
22:29ominous.
22:30Referee Chris Graham
22:31heads for the
22:32screen
22:32to check
22:33VAR
22:34and in the
22:36current world
22:36I think
22:37that'll be
22:37given as a
22:38penalty.
22:41Well
22:42I feel
22:43great sympathy
22:44there for
22:44Liam Henderson
22:45but it makes
22:47no difference.
22:48The penalty
22:48is given
22:48and a shake
22:52of the head
22:52from Henderson
22:53but it's a
22:54great opportunity
22:55for Livingston
22:55to clinch
22:56the match.
22:57Robbie Muirhead
22:58has scored
22:58last week
22:59against Kilmarnock
22:59on the spot
23:00but he's
23:01failed this
23:02time.
23:04Excellent goal
23:05keeping from
23:06Scott Bain.
23:08Read that
23:09very well
23:09indeed
23:10and got down
23:10very smartly.
23:13Well
23:13Falkert are
23:14still in with a
23:15chance
23:15thanks to
23:16Bain.
23:17well Falkert
23:23coming again
23:24good movement
23:26forward by
23:26Adams he's
23:27brought down
23:27there by a
23:28little push
23:29there by Tate
23:30the referee's
23:31given a penalty
23:32that does seem
23:33harsh I must say
23:34and was it
23:35inside or
23:36outside the
23:37box?
23:38There's Adams
23:38there's the
23:39first nudge
23:40certainly outside
23:41the box.
23:42well this will
23:43go to
23:44VAR
23:44no question
23:45and the
23:47referee is
23:48being told
23:48right now
23:49he got that
23:50wrong
23:50it's a free
23:51kick
23:51a real
23:53let off
23:54that is
23:54but a chance
23:59nevertheless
23:59for Falkert
24:00David
24:03Martindale
24:04insisting on
24:05real concentration
24:06for this set
24:07piece
24:07Spencer
24:09and Miller
24:09over the
24:10ball
24:10and the
24:11header by
24:12McKeever
24:12a brilliant
24:15finish
24:15by Ross
24:16McKeever
24:17from a
24:17splendid
24:18free kick
24:19from Calvin
24:19Miller
24:19and John
24:21McGlynn
24:21applauds
24:22he knows
24:22his team
24:23are right
24:23back in
24:24the match
24:24now
24:24look how
24:28McKeever
24:28came from
24:29an offside
24:29position
24:30he wasn't
24:31picked up
24:31properly
24:31and that
24:33gave him
24:33the chance
24:34for the
24:34flick
24:35header
24:35to the
24:35far post
24:36no chance
24:38whatsoever
24:38for the
24:39keeper
24:39all getting
24:44tense
24:45now
24:45Livingston
24:45seemed to
24:46be in
24:46charge
24:46but
24:46Falkert
24:47can be
24:47a big
24:48effort
24:48to get
24:48forward
24:49that's
24:50played
24:50though
24:50by
24:50Montagna
24:51this is a
24:51great chance
24:52here
24:52but
24:53Kiela's
24:53on his
24:53own
24:54and that
24:55finishes it
24:56terrific
25:01finish by
25:02Jeremy
25:03the 36
25:04year old
25:05veteran
25:05signed
25:06in the
25:06summer
25:06from
25:07Willem
25:07Twé
25:08in
25:08Holland
25:08and he
25:10surely
25:11guaranteed
25:11the points
25:12now
25:12for
25:15Livingston
25:15initial
25:17header
25:17was a
25:18good
25:18one
25:18but
25:19Falkert
25:19had pushed
25:20so many
25:20men
25:20forward
25:21they were
25:21badly
25:21exposed
25:22at the
25:22back
25:22and this
25:24was taken
25:25calmly
25:25and
25:26efficiently
25:26well you
25:31can see
25:31the only
25:31player
25:32left
25:32at the
25:32back
25:32there
25:33was
25:33Sean
25:34Mackey
25:34and he
25:35couldn't
25:35get across
25:36quickly enough
25:36to trouble
25:37Bekela
25:37Bain
25:38could do
25:39nothing
25:39excellent
25:41pass that
25:41from
25:42Montagna
25:42and
25:45Bekela
25:45introducing
25:47himself
25:48to the
25:48Livingston
25:48fans
25:49and the
25:54final whistle
25:55goes
25:55it's a
25:56very
25:56important
25:57win
25:57for
25:58David
25:58Martindale
25:58Livingston
25:59they survived
26:01a very
26:01difficult
26:02start
26:02to the
26:02match
26:03and Scott
26:04Pittman
26:04played a
26:04key role
26:05so too
26:05did
26:05Lewis
26:06Smith
26:06John
26:07McGlynn
26:07will have
26:07to give
26:08careful
26:08thought
26:08to how
26:09he
26:09proceeds
26:10I
26:12thought
26:13it was
26:13a really
26:14good
26:14professional
26:14performance
26:15there was
26:15a lot
26:15of
26:16different
26:16aspects
26:16to it
26:17we had
26:17to try
26:17and play
26:18at times
26:18but the
26:18first half
26:19it was
26:19a swirling
26:20wind
26:20and it
26:20was really
26:20difficult
26:21to get
26:21out of
26:21our
26:21half
26:22so
26:23Falkirk
26:23had the
26:24majority
26:24to play
26:25in the
26:25first half
26:25because it
26:25was difficult
26:26to get
26:26out
26:27but he
26:28came up
26:28with two
26:28brilliant
26:29goals
26:29I thought
26:30the first
26:30one was
26:30a great
26:31team goal
26:31and the
26:32second one
26:33was still
26:33a good
26:34bit of
26:34team
26:34play
26:34there
26:35but it's
26:35a great
26:35finish
26:36with
26:36Smithy
26:37and then
26:38I think
26:38it's a great
26:39finish
26:39with
26:39Bikir
26:39so we
26:40brought
26:40him in
26:41to bring
26:41that experience
26:42into the
26:43forward line
26:43and I think
26:44he showed
26:44that today
26:45so in
26:45the opening
26:4618 minutes
26:46until
26:47Livingston
26:48scored
26:48I thought
26:49we're the
26:50better team
26:51obviously
26:51the game
26:51lasts a lot
26:52longer than
26:5220 minutes
26:52or 18 or so
26:54I thought
26:55we lost
26:55our way
26:56a little bit
26:56our passing
26:57wasn't as good
26:57a little bit
26:58of anxiety
26:59crept in
27:00a little bit
27:01and then
27:02we still
27:04play in the
27:06game
27:06maybe didn't
27:07create as much
27:08and then
27:09Alad Smith
27:10scored a
27:10World
27:10right on
27:11basically
27:12halftime
27:12which
27:13gave us
27:15a little bit
27:15of
27:15I'm out
27:16in the
27:16climb
27:16Really good
27:18contest that
27:19between the
27:19two promoted
27:20sides
27:20but the
27:21smile on
27:21Davy Martindale's
27:22face at the
27:23end
27:23really said
27:24it all
27:24Livy take
27:25the points
27:25but
27:26Falkirk
27:26certainly had
27:27some early
27:27chances
27:27didn't he?
27:29Falkirk
27:29started the
27:30game really
27:30well
27:30as John
27:31McGlynn
27:31said
27:32they had
27:33big big
27:33opportunities
27:34this one
27:35especially
27:36again
27:36go back
27:37across
27:37the
27:37keeper
27:38absolutely
27:39he's got
27:39to head
27:39it back
27:39towards
27:40the
27:40faraway
27:41post
27:41but
27:41as I say
27:42it was a
27:43good game
27:44it was good
27:44to play
27:45and that
27:46chance
27:46was probably
27:47more difficult
27:48than your
27:48post
27:49and not an
27:49easy one
27:49to put in
27:50from there
27:50Scott Pittman
27:52scored last
27:52week
27:53for Livy
27:53scored again
27:54today
27:54and Livy
27:56got those
27:56two first
27:57half goals
27:57which were
27:57both cricket
27:58goals
27:59yeah
27:59against their
27:59underplay
28:00but Scott Pittman
28:01has got a
28:01great knack
28:02of arriving
28:03in the
28:03box
28:03his timing
28:04to come
28:05into the
28:05box
28:06to contribute
28:07with shots
28:07and goals
28:08is brilliant
28:08you can see
28:09him here
28:09and he's
28:10always looking
28:11for the
28:12first wee bit
28:12of danger
28:12he can get
28:13and Gordon
28:14you picked out
28:14the defending
28:15here from
28:15Falkirk
28:16there's four
28:16players out
28:18all ball
28:18watching here
28:19look
28:19and there's
28:20nobody really
28:21picking up
28:22at the back
28:22I think
28:23John
28:23Brad Spencer
28:25is on his
28:26heels there
28:26as well
28:27and he just
28:27nicks in front
28:28of him
28:28very good
28:31this is a
28:31great run
28:32as well
28:32look at
28:33the burst
28:34he has
28:34here
28:34plays it
28:35in
28:35right across
28:36lovely little
28:37touch
28:37now
28:37this goal
28:39I think
28:39any player
28:40would be
28:41really proud
28:42of a goal
28:42like this
28:43fantastic strike
28:44I mean
28:44the end
28:46strike's
28:46magnificent
28:46but the whole
28:47goal's really
28:47really good
28:48what a finish
28:49from Lewis
28:50Smith
28:50it starts
28:51with the
28:52goalkeeper
28:52at the back
28:53as well
28:53lovely pass
28:54out to
28:54the wide
28:55left
28:55and then
28:55they went
28:56straight through
28:56with that
28:57bit of move
28:58it's a bit
28:58early to be
28:59talking about
28:59goal of the
29:00season
29:00but Lewis
29:00Smith's a
29:01contender
29:01already
29:02great strike
29:03it really
29:03was
29:04now
29:04a little
29:04bit of
29:05controversy
29:06certainly was
29:07between us
29:07watching the
29:08game this
29:08afternoon
29:09a Liam
29:10Henderson
29:10handball
29:11was it
29:12well it is
29:13it does hit
29:14his hand
29:14and by the
29:15letter of the
29:15law
29:16I think that
29:17the referee
29:18and VAR
29:19have got to
29:19give the
29:20penalty
29:20but I mean
29:21I just think
29:22it's incredibly
29:23harsh
29:23I mean
29:24he's not
29:25trying to
29:26make himself
29:27bigger for me
29:27his hands
29:28he's trying to
29:28almost move
29:29his hand out
29:29the way
29:29it's very
29:30close to him
29:31and you kind of
29:33don't want to see
29:33penalties given for that
29:34great save though
29:35from Scott Bain
29:36I suppose that was
29:36the right result in
29:38the end of it
29:38the penalty's not
29:39scored because
29:40it was harsh
29:41there's no doubt
29:41about that
29:41I wonder
29:42this is
29:42sports scene 50
29:43sports scene 25
29:44I'm not sure that
29:45would even have been
29:46a penalty
29:46in the old days
29:47it had to be
29:48deliberate handball
29:49deliberate handball
29:50let's go back to
29:51the old days
29:52shall we
29:52now talking about
29:54great goals
29:54about this from
29:55Ross McKeever
29:56this was another
29:56cracker
29:57we initially
29:59thought the penalty
30:01had been given
30:01but it's clearly
30:02outside the box
30:04I think the referee
30:04should probably spot
30:05the initial contact
30:06being outside the box
30:07himself
30:07but gives the penalty
30:09it's then pulled back
30:09for a free kick
30:11but what's really
30:14impressive is the
30:14movement
30:15starting from the
30:15offside position
30:16as Jock said
30:17he comes from there
30:18you're right
30:18Tom O'Macuse
30:19what happens is
30:20he doesn't get picked up
30:21because he comes from
30:22that offside position
30:22nobody knows where he is
30:23they don't see him
30:24coming from there
30:24and just before the ball
30:26is kicked
30:26his own side
30:27and a great little touch
30:28flick into the far corner
30:29that was an excellent goal
30:30it was
30:30absolutely
30:31and talking of
30:31excellent goals
30:32how about this one
30:33to be fair
30:34poor defending
30:35but let's take nothing
30:36away from Jeremy Bokela
30:37no I mean
30:39he made an impact
30:40that's for sure
30:41you can see him there
30:42keen on
30:43booked
30:43but obviously
30:45Falkirk at this point
30:46in time
30:46are trying to get
30:47back in the game
30:482-1 down
30:48really stretched
30:49initially this was
30:50a great pass
30:51but you've got to ask
30:52what Sean Mackey
30:53is doing there
30:54playing him onside
30:55initially
30:55but then get across
30:56get over to the ball
30:57and put him under pressure
30:58I don't know why
30:59he's so far back
31:00on that position
31:01he shouldn't be
31:02the back four
31:03should be organised
31:04so that they're all
31:05in good positions
31:06with each other
31:07I don't know why
31:08he was totally back there
31:09Sean Mackey
31:09I tell you what
31:10it's a great finish
31:11a great finish
31:11but he had all the time
31:13in the world
31:13to take it
31:14because he wasn't
31:14even getting closed down
31:15at the end
31:15was he
31:16David Martindale
31:17said it would be
31:18a different Livingston
31:19this season
31:19and the evidence
31:20of today
31:20it's beginning to look
31:22that way
31:22our final match
31:23tonight was the late
31:24kick off
31:25at Ibrox
31:25as Rangers
31:26look to build
31:27on their impressive
31:28showing in Europe
31:28on Tuesday
31:29your commentator
31:30for this one
31:31is a young lad
31:31with a bright future
31:32Rob McLean
31:34well few would argue
31:35that Scotland
31:36deserved at least
31:37a goal
31:37and maybe even
31:38a win
31:38this was a remarkable
31:58game of football
31:59after Tuesday
32:02after Tuesday night
32:02emphatic win
32:03in Champions League
32:04qualifiers

32:15out of the League
32:16Cup
32:16and they lost
32:17at home to Hibs
32:17on the opening
32:18weekend
32:19Russell Martin
32:23says same again
32:24to the starting
32:2411
32:25which produced
32:26that impressive
32:26European performance
32:28in midweek
32:29JD Gassama
32:30looks to extend
32:31his record
32:31of four goals

32:33Lyle Cameron
32:34starts against
32:35his old team
32:36Simon Murray's
32:39knee injury
32:40prolongs his absence
32:41from the Dundee
32:42line-up
32:43there's a debut
32:44up front
32:44for later signing
32:4520-year-old
32:46Joe Wesley
32:46who replaces
32:47Emu Lakwa
32:48Stephen Presley's
32:50other change
32:50sees Dre Wright
32:52take over
32:52from Ethan Ingram
32:53now Gassama
33:02Souterin
33:05bouncing
33:07off
33:08Dessers
33:09but Dundee
33:10give it away
33:11at the edge
33:12of the area
33:13that could have
33:13been costly
33:13Samuel's
33:15in trouble
33:16it's Diamonde
33:18with the cutback
33:19left by Dessers
33:20Cameron rolls
33:22it back
33:22and Rothwell
33:24screws his shot
33:25well wide
33:26of target
33:26in the end
33:27you just feel
33:29Rangers
33:30upping the ante
33:31at the moment
33:32and searching
33:35for that opening
33:36goal
33:36tugged up
33:39well wide
33:40in the end
33:41Rothwell
33:42Dessers
33:44was optimistically
33:45claiming for
33:46a penalty
33:47but
33:48Don Robertson
33:49not interested
33:50Stephen Presley
33:52back where it
33:53all began
33:54for him
33:54as a

34:07that battle
34:07with Aarons
34:08and he's
34:08still going
34:08and Manny
34:09Samuels
34:09needed a
34:12better
34:12final
34:13ball
34:13the game
34:18maybe
34:18starting to
34:18open out
34:19and it's
34:22Oliver Antman
34:22who cuts
34:23inside
34:24and finds
34:25Gassama
34:25and the way
34:26things have
34:27been going
34:27for him
34:28so far
34:28this season
34:29those normally
34:30find the back
34:31of the net
34:32well off target
34:34that time
34:35having struck
34:37four Rangers

34:59Samuels
35:03making up
35:04good ground
35:05for Steven

35:13it's Robertson
35:15and Rangers

35:27and it's
35:27inches away
35:28from a
35:28Dundee
35:29opening goal
35:30well what a
35:33moment
35:33this could have
35:35been
35:35for Dundee
35:37Graham's
35:39cross ball
35:40in
35:40and Clark
35:42Robertson's

36:33again
36:33wouldn't have
36:34counted
36:35but it's
36:36hugely
36:36encouraging
36:37for Dundee
36:38that whenever
36:39they get
36:39into that
36:40Rangers

36:41they're well
36:43capable of

41:13Russell Martin mixing things up attack wise for Rangers
41:16hoping they can find something
41:19worked the opening well enough
41:22but that was pretty easy for the Dundee keeper
41:25Dundee homing in on one massive result
41:28just what they wanted
41:30certainly not on the script for Russell Martin
41:32Raskan
41:44Gassama
41:45cuts inside, takes a tumble, penalty given
41:50our Rangers going to salvage a point right at the death
41:56and it's their man of the moment
41:59who's given them that opportunity
42:01Wright has done well
42:03but that time
42:03clumsy
42:05awkward
42:06Don Robertson certainly had no doubt about it
42:10as Dre Wright tried to plead his innocence
42:13the review goes on
42:17check over
42:20and Rangers
42:23with the chance to rescue a point
42:26in the 92nd minute
42:28the responsibility
42:30resting with captain James Tavernier
42:34up he steps
42:36and scores
42:38ten man Rangers equalise
42:41and that is the sound of relief
42:44around Ibrox
42:45John McCracken went one way
42:49and the ball drilled in the other side
42:52even if he'd chosen
42:53to dive to his right
42:55he wouldn't have been stopping that
42:57as it flashed inside the post
43:00a heavy touch
43:08from John Suter
43:09and that's gone behind for
43:11Dundee corner
43:13Dundee try again
43:19in from Finn Robertson
43:21and it was Ryan Astley
43:22who scored their goal
43:24who had a chance here to score again
43:26at the near post
43:27he's nodded it over the top
43:30and his reaction tells you
43:32that was an opportunity
43:35to make his a double
43:36in response
43:38here come Rangers with Gassama
43:39Atman hesitated
43:42here he is again
43:46over Atman
43:46and Gassama
43:47and it's right down the throat
43:50of John McCracken
43:51as Rangers looked
43:54to snatch all three
43:56three points
43:57right at the end
43:59Tavernier
44:03Can Rangers complete the comeback
44:08they certainly can
44:11it's Cyril Dessus
44:13well he was
44:20standing in an offside position
44:23Cyril Dessus
44:25up with the
44:27Dundee arms
44:28and the goal
44:31will not count
44:32so the relief
44:36this time
44:36is for
44:37Dundee
44:38can they get a point
44:40out of this
44:41at Ibrox
44:42full time
44:44at Ibrox
44:44and it's more
44:46dropped points
44:47for Russell Martin
44:48and Rangers
44:49Rangers
44:501-1 at
44:52Furr Park
44:53and now
44:541-1 at Ibrox
44:55to start the
44:56Premiership campaign
44:58against Dundee
44:59all sorts of
45:01encouragement
45:01for Stephen Presley
45:03their season
45:04could finally
45:05be up and running
45:06Rangers 1-1
45:08Dundee 1-1
45:09Disappointed
45:10we don't win the game
45:12I'm disappointed
45:12that we concede
45:13a really poor goal
45:14and there was just
45:16a general like
45:16lethargy
45:17and no speed
45:19in the first half
45:20to our game
45:20at all
45:21is different
45:22to the other night
45:22it's a different problem
45:23from the opposition
45:24because the other night
45:24the team came out
45:26and pressed
45:26and when we had moments
45:28to break through
45:28it went quickly
45:29the speed changed
45:30today you have to
45:31put the speed in the ball
45:31and make the opposition
45:32work
45:33until the gaps open
45:34and there just
45:35wasn't enough
45:36intent to really
45:37disrupt and penetrate
45:38them in the first half
45:39in fact
45:40until we went down
45:42to 10 men
45:42and the lads understood
45:43the importance of that
45:44of disrupting them
45:45moving the ball quickly
45:46so the mentality
45:47of the team
45:47was much better
45:48in terms of aggression
45:49and speed
45:51with and without the ball
45:53when we were down
45:54to 10 men
45:54but it shouldn't take that
45:55Real pride in the performance
45:57I said to the players
45:58in the dressing room
45:59I could have cried
45:59for them today
46:00because they didn't
46:01leave anything out there
46:02they gave absolutely
46:03everything to the game
46:04I spoke all week
46:06about showing bravery
46:07and courage here
46:08they showed plenty of that
46:10so you know
46:11I'm really really proud
46:12of the players today
46:13you know
46:13I think
46:14they equated themselves
46:16really well
46:17we saw progression
46:18from last week
46:19which was really pleasing
46:20but again
46:22I'll remind people
46:23we've still got so much
46:25hard work ahead of us
46:26Yes certainly not the result
46:28the Rangers fans
46:29are looking for
46:29after that impressive
46:30European performance
46:31but all credited to Dundee
46:33who I thought were
46:33thoroughly worthy
46:34of their point
46:35having said that
46:36Rangers dominated
46:37the early stages
46:38Tomo
46:38but never really
46:39looked like scoring
46:40in fact Dundee
46:40hit the post twice
46:41Yeah I mean
46:42Dundee caused a lot
46:43of problems today
46:44from set plays
46:46and Rangers didn't
46:46really deal with it
46:47at all well
46:48I have to credit
46:48Stephen Presley
46:49he's had a lot of stick
46:50this early part of the season
46:52but I think he got his
46:52tactics spot on today
46:54and yeah
46:55really unlucky
46:56this one there
46:57from Clark Robson
46:58hitting the inside
46:59of the post
47:00I think when you go to
47:03Ibrox
47:03you know you're going
47:04to be under pressure
47:04you're not going to have
47:05to soak up a lot of
47:06pressure from Rangers
47:08set plays might be
47:09your best opportunity
47:10of getting a goal
47:11and probably that was
47:13the case for Dundee today
47:14and I feel that
47:16you know
47:16Stephen's talking about
47:17he could have cried
47:18for the players at the end
47:19because they did give
47:20absolutely everything
47:21today against Rangers
47:22we'll get to Rangers
47:23in a minute
47:24they weren't good enough
47:25today
47:25this one just
47:27slightly offside
47:28again off the inside
47:30of the post
47:30they didn't create
47:31a massive amount
47:32from open play
47:33but they didn't have to
47:35Stephen Presley
47:36had set them up
47:36obviously just
47:38parked the bus
47:38made it very difficult
47:40for Rangers
47:40and I have to agree
47:41Russell Martin
47:42the Rangers were just
47:42slow and passing the ball
47:44about
47:44they weren't getting anywhere
47:45they weren't creating anything
47:46and basically
47:48they could have been
47:48a couple of goals down
47:49as it showed there
47:49but I do agree
47:50with Russell Martin
47:51actually when Rangers
47:52went to 10 men
47:53they were a better team
47:54so are we talking
47:55the mental weaknesses
47:57after the Motherwell game
47:58last week
47:58that Russell Martin
47:59was talking about
47:59he even took off
48:00defenders and played
48:01with more forwards
48:02and they were much better
48:03unfortunately
48:04not to win the game
48:06because of the chance
48:06that was disallowed
48:07at the very end
48:08but it seemed a strange one
48:09that with 11 players
48:10they were poor
48:11the deadlock
48:13was finally broken
48:14and it was a goal
48:16for Dundee
48:17how about this one
48:17again from a set play
48:19a lovely diagonal ball
48:20they hit our back
48:21across the face
48:22of the goal
48:22and actually
48:24with a brilliant header
48:25you have to say
48:26really difficult
48:27to get this up
48:28and looked over
48:28Jack Butland
48:29but they were given
48:31Warren's Rangers
48:32in the first half
48:34from set plays
48:35this is another one
48:36Rangers not set up
48:37well at all
48:38defensively
48:39and they have looked
48:40a wee bit vulnerable
48:42defensively
48:42I think
48:43yeah definitely they have
48:44there's no doubt about it
48:45but how can they put in
48:46that kind of performance
48:47in Europe
48:47and yet
48:48under Jekyll and Hyde
48:49but that happened
48:50last season
48:51they had to have
48:52a brilliant European
48:52performance
48:53come back
48:53and then fall flat
48:54poor home performance
48:55yeah
48:55and it's something
48:56Russell Martin
48:57needs to get rid of
48:57quickly
48:58they can't have that
48:58this season
48:59so there were a goal
49:00down
49:00then there were
49:01a man down
49:01and I don't think
49:03there was really
49:03any arguing
49:04with this one
49:04Gordon was there
49:05well it seems
49:06it could be looked
49:07at being a bit harsh
49:08in one respect
49:09because the only thing
49:10I would say about it
49:11was Diaz
49:11he didn't actually
49:13he didn't
49:15I would say
49:16react to it
49:17he wasn't complaining
49:18about being sent off
49:19which was a bit of a surprise
49:20because I think
49:20he did make contact
49:21with him
49:21but I don't think
49:22he was trying
49:22to bring him down
49:23you know
49:23no he wasn't
49:24trying to bring him down
49:24but he's last man
49:25he makes contact
49:26he's denying a goal
49:27scoring opportunity
49:27it comes from a slack
49:29pass from John Suter
49:30firstly trying to force
49:31one into the middle
49:32and then the breakaway
49:33and yeah
49:34I don't think
49:35he can give any
49:36complaints
49:36no
49:37especially when you're
49:38last man
49:38you're always going to
49:39get out of red car
49:39for that
49:40all the controversy
49:42came in the last few
49:43minutes though
49:43didn't it
49:44let's look
49:44firstly at the penalty
49:46equaliser
49:47was this a penalty
49:49I'm not having it
49:50I don't think it is
49:51I think Gassama
49:52plays for it
49:53I think he feels contact
49:54and throws himself
49:55yes there's a wee
49:56kind of contact
49:57between the two players
49:58in the box
49:59which I think
50:00you'd expect
50:00but I think
50:02at this point in time
50:03he feels it
50:03and he throws himself
50:04to the ground
50:05I'm surprised
50:07that VAR
50:08agreed
50:09that it was a penalty kick
50:11because I think
50:11I thought
50:12when I went to VAR
50:13there was a good chance
50:13it would be disallowed
50:14but as I say
50:15at the end of the day
50:16it's a little bit like
50:17maybe you could say
50:17the ordering off as well
50:19there's contact there
50:20but very little
50:21and he did at least protest
50:23yeah
50:24it's tucked away nicely
50:25from James Tavon
50:27yeah
50:27a good penalty kick
50:28in at the side net
50:29how many penalties
50:30has he scored
50:30over the years
50:31for the Rangers
50:32then
50:33even more drama
50:34the disallowed goal
50:36what did we make
50:37of this one
50:38well and
50:39do you know what
50:39Rangers
50:40credit again
50:42from when they went
50:44down to 10-10
50:44really started to push
50:45and this was a lovely
50:47wee pass around the corner
50:48Cyril Dersers
50:49had just
50:50just strayed
50:52he's probably
50:52half a yard there
50:53it was a good goal
50:55but I don't think
50:56Rangers deserve
50:57to win the game
50:57today
50:58and probably a draw
51:00might be just about right
51:01although
51:01you know
51:02Steven Presley
51:02will obviously feel as though
51:03they haven't said that
51:05it was bad striking
51:05Dougie
51:05because if he keeps
51:06himself on side there
51:07he's not getting picked up
51:09if he just steps
51:10the other side
51:10he's in
51:11and he gets that goal
51:12Rangers get the three points
51:13too quickly
51:14too quickly
51:14yeah
51:15absolutely
51:15so
51:16one each
51:17and Rangers
51:17first two league games
51:18are both ended
51:19in draws
51:20well we're nearly
51:21out of time
51:22on this anniversary special
51:24but it would be very remiss
51:25not to hear
51:26from an icon
51:27of Scottish sports broadcasting
51:29happy birthday
51:32happy birthday sports scene
51:3250 years
51:33still going strong
51:34thanks to you
51:36for sharing in it
51:37and what a thrill
51:38for all of us
51:38to have been a part of it
51:40here's to the next
51:41half century
51:42goodnight
51:43thank you
51:46we've now been joined
51:47by Mr McPherson
51:49you enjoy being back
51:50behind the commentary
51:51I've seen you somewhere
51:52before
51:52at some point
51:53I've seen you somewhere
51:54before too
51:55did you have fun today
51:56nothing each
51:59is that fun
52:00it was fun
52:00to have a mic
52:01in your hand again
52:02yeah
52:02like you being
52:03in here again
52:04you'll appreciate
52:05coming back
52:06into an environment
52:07which is different
52:08from the kind of environment
52:10we have
52:10vastly
52:11in the former days
52:13but yes
52:14as a whole
52:15yes of course
52:16well I wasn't there
52:17you were there
52:18the very first sports scene
52:19in 1975
52:19you commentated
52:21on the very first goal
52:23what was the very first goal
52:24to be shown
52:25on the sports scene
52:26Kenny
52:26Kenny
52:27you're right
52:27Young missing out on that
52:28Glavin
52:29there's Delglish
52:30aimed as if he was
52:32going to let fly
52:33Delglish going through again
52:34there's a great chance
52:35for Celtic
52:36he's there
52:37Terry Delglish
52:44after 11 minutes
52:47making the score
52:48Celtic 1
52:49Aberdee nothing
52:50we couldn't keep
52:52Sir Kenny out
52:53could we
52:53I helped make him
52:54yeah
52:55of course
52:56how good has it been
52:57though for you and I
52:58and for Gordon
52:59as well
52:59to see so many old
53:00friends and colleagues
53:01everybody asks you
53:03like they do you
53:05of course
53:05memories
53:06what's your best memory
53:07but your best goal
53:08your best player
53:09and so on
53:09and it's very difficult
53:10to answer that
53:11because
53:12you leave so many people
53:13and incidents
53:14and events out
53:15yeah
53:16but the one of course
53:18that everybody talks about
53:20and I'm associated with
53:22is Mendoza
53:24yes
53:24and the Archie Gemma goal
53:25yeah
53:26I can't get away from that
53:27it's lodged in the head
53:28and people ask me about it
53:30it's special because
53:31I did the commentary twice
53:33I did it for the BBC
53:34and I did it for Danny Boyle
53:36for his film
53:37Trainspotting
53:38because the sound quality
53:40from the previous day
53:43had gone down
53:43yeah
53:44so he asked me
53:45I was working in Paris
53:46at the time
53:46he flew me over to London
53:47he said would you do it
53:49when they showed me the check
53:50they were going to give me
53:50I said yes
53:51and so
53:52nothing changes in
53:53no
53:54I didn't actually
53:56see this film
53:57until months
53:58after it was out
53:59because I wasn't caring
54:00it was paid
54:00I took some French friends
54:03into a cinema
54:04in the Champs-Élysées
54:05to show the film
54:07they didn't realise
54:09that my sound
54:10voice
54:12was the background
54:13to a sex scene
54:15and that went right up
54:17in their estimation
54:18I can tell you
54:19never saw you
54:20in quite the same light
54:21again
54:21exactly
54:22so I mean
54:24last and very briefly
54:25we've all been asked
54:26this week
54:26what was your favourite
54:28goal
54:29Archie's
54:30yeah
54:31I mean
54:31it has to be
54:32I know
54:32it's monotonous
54:34to hear that
54:35but it's got to be
54:36the truth
54:37that's the one
54:38that sticks with me
54:39I've seen some other
54:40marvellous goals
54:41spellbinding goals
54:43dramatic goals
54:44long distance goals
54:45but it was a bit of poetry
54:47wasn't it
54:48it was like a short story
54:49a beginning
54:50a middle
54:50and then he gets the ball
54:52you don't know
54:52what's going to happen
54:53it's happening
54:54it's done
54:55that's the way I look at it
54:56so I came second then
54:57actually
54:57was it okay
54:58did you score goals
55:00Archie on Archie
55:03yeah
55:03not great memories
55:04obviously
55:05and do you still love
55:06football as much
55:07briefly as
55:07you've always had
55:08always
55:09I love it
55:10you know the thing
55:11I miss now
55:12boys playing in the streets
55:14I don't see that
55:16any longer
55:16good point
55:17good point
55:18Archie
55:18a pleasure
55:19thank you
55:19thank you again
55:20well that is
55:21about it for tonight
55:22and our celebration
55:24of the sports scene
55:25half century
55:25I want to pay tribute
55:26to all the people
55:28who have worked
55:28on the show
55:29in front of the camera
55:30and behind the scenes
55:31over the last five decades
55:33from those still
55:34at the coalface
55:35to those who have
55:36moved on
55:36we've all made
55:37friends for life
55:38under the sports scene
55:39banner
55:40doing the best job
55:41in the world
55:41we especially
55:43remember friends
55:44who are no longer
55:44with us
55:45you will remain
55:46forever
55:46in our thoughts
55:47to everyone
55:48at the clubs
55:48the players
55:49the coaches
55:50the admin staff
55:51we thank you
55:51for your patience
55:52and generosity
55:53and lastly
55:54to you the viewers
55:55Jock Steen once said
