00:00Today we are buying out all of my neighbor's farm equipment.
00:03This past fall, we had the honor of helping our neighbor finish his harvest with our old
00:08equipment.
00:09And as it turns out, it was his last harvest.
00:12He passed away shortly after.
00:15The farm is having to be sold, and the family gave us the first chance at buying it.
00:20And so we are taking all of his equipment and keeping it on the farm, putting it to
00:26good use.
00:27And that all starts this planting season.
00:29It just so happens that the equipment that he has is just what we are in need of.
00:34Stuff to plant our sweet corn patch and stuff to put up our hay.
00:38So let's take a look at everything that we got.
00:40Back behind the bins here, we have a sickle mower pull-behind.
00:44We got this for $1,000.
00:46Also by the bins, a pull-behind hay rake, also $1,000.
00:52Mounted rototiller for $1,000.
00:55And sitting next to it, this is probably going to be one of the most useful things.
00:59A planter, $1,000 for two rows.
01:04And even comes preloaded with corn.
01:07Probably going to have to clean that out.
01:09Me being a Facebook marketplace junkie, I know the value of all these things and this is
01:14a great value for all these things, especially so close to home and all in one area and in
01:19working condition.
01:20I'm super pumped about all the things we got and how much we paid for them.
01:24And we also got a freebie, come check it out.
01:27I'm intrigued.
01:29You know how much I like a good freebie.
01:33And almost even more than a freebie, I like a good barn slash weed find.
01:41I'm really getting back here.
01:46What is this?
01:48A spring tooth harrow with a straight handle.
01:54You never get one of these.
01:56Look at that.
01:58What?
01:59Do you pull that behind a tractor?
02:02Yeah, we're a four-wheeler for the driveway or just whatever you want, sweet corn patch.
02:06We could smooth it out and threw that in for free.
02:09Okay.
02:11I like it.
02:12But the crown jewel of this whole farm is this super low hour diesel John Deere 3010.
02:20It has just over 3,000 hours on it and it is in super great condition.
02:25This is what we're going to be doing the bulk of our work with and we got it for $8,000.
02:40That brings our grand total to $12,000.
02:43Now let's get this tractor started so we can hook it up to the planter.
02:47The seat is in remarkably good condition.
02:51All right.
02:53We're in neutral.
03:04Up, fired up, no problem.
03:06I barely had to turn the key.
03:09One, two, three, three, four.
03:11Out of time, we're out.
03:13We're on.
03:14We're on.
03:15We're on.
03:17You, two, three, four.
03:18I like the key.
03:20We're on.
03:21We're on.
03:24And I'll.
03:28I'll.
03:29We're on.
03:31One, two, three.
03:32Two, four and one, two, one.
03:33Yeah, they still got it.
03:34You.
03:34All right.
03:35We're on.
03:36Two, three.
04:07I think we got ourselves a pretty good deal.
04:36They don't make tractors like this anymore.
04:39I think it's making a little more light on them.
04:42A lot more light.
04:45It's pretty quiet, isn't it?
04:48Typical old farmer things.
04:50Bailing wire everywhere.
04:56Tractor started a little too easy.
04:58I'm nervous about how this hookup is going to go.
05:01It's sunk down pretty far.
05:03It's been sitting for a long time.
05:04Now I just need to get the other side.
05:33Great, you're so strong.
05:41This is going way too easy.
05:43What would I do without you?
05:44I can't believe that worked.
05:52Now this is the last step here.
05:54It's top length.
05:55No way.
06:07No way.
06:08No way.
06:09It needs a kick.
06:17Now flip that lever.
06:24Lock in.
06:25Extra parts?
06:36Extra.
06:37Take that home.
06:38Put that to good use.
06:47Look at that.
06:48What a dream.
06:52That is perfect.
07:01Just like that.
07:04Let's get these beauties home.
07:06The chain's moving.
07:17That's a good sign.
07:18Look at that.
07:22There is planting corn.
07:24Look at that spacing.
07:27That is perfect spacing right there.
07:29Granted, it works.
07:33The spacing is fabulous.
07:35We need to work on the depth.
07:37I can't believe it.
07:39I can't believe it.
07:39That was easier to set up than our big planter.
07:41Oh my God.
07:41We just set that up.
07:43Looks like, oh, slight settling issues.
07:46Oh, nice.
07:47I'm glad we dissed our sweet corn patch because there's no row openers.
07:53Yeah.
07:55Well, it's settling fast.
07:57Hmm.
07:58Looks like we need to grease it.
08:01Oh, wow.
08:02Yeah, I think there's some adjustments to be made, but all in all, considering we're just
08:06picking this up, I think we're in luck.
08:14Looks like a small leak of some kind here, but nothing major.
08:20Now that the planter is loaded up on the tractor, it's time to load up the back of
08:23the truck.
08:36Think we can manhandle this thing?
08:38I think we're going to try our best.
08:40How heavy is this thing, do you think?
08:43I don't think it's too bad.
08:44You don't think so?
08:46No.
08:46Well, it's a good thing I've been hitting the gym.
08:48Okay.
08:49Ready?
08:49Uh, yeah.
08:50Now, let's move this button.
08:53Oh, we can lift this.
08:54We can lift this.
08:56All right, lift with your legs, not your back, okay?
08:58Well, I'm already lifting.
09:00I'm a really bad cameraman.
09:01We did get it loaded.
09:02The camera just quit.
09:04Sorry.
09:05You can get me.
09:05Sorry.
09:06We're farmers, not filmers.
09:08Now, to load up the rest of our goodies here.
09:12I'm not super excited about lifting these weights.
09:16Good thing I brought Muscles McGee here, right?
09:18Really nice find here.
09:23It's a quick hitch for that tractor.
09:28These will come in handy.
09:29Oh, looks like it's broke.
09:41Need a bit of a weld job?
09:43Might have to do some fixing.
09:44By Muscles McGee, I definitely meant, meant me, right?
10:00Yeah.
10:00Got spare planter parts.
10:04That's nice.
10:07Never have too many of those.
10:11Any other goodies?
10:13Can we roll one?
10:14Do they roll?
10:16Good thing there's circles.
10:18That's nice.
10:20Then we'll just lift up.
10:22Yeah.
10:23Okay, ready?
10:24One, two.
10:27Okay.
10:30Well, this time, I'm the bad filmer.
10:33200 pounds a piece?
10:34Four of them?
10:35Two people?
10:36Wait, was it not recording?
10:37Got them.
10:38No, I got it.
10:39I was rolling the first one up, and then cut.
10:43It is really pretty warm out here.
10:45I wonder if the phone got up.
10:46I don't know.
10:46Like I said, we're not pros, just muscles.
10:50We got everything loaded up, though.
10:52Time to road trip home.
10:55Grant's roading the tractor.
10:57I'm roading this load.
10:59Let's ride, shall we?
11:03That's good.
11:04Protect those ears.
11:04Let's ride, shall we?
11:34Made it home.
11:42Looking good.
11:44This thing is the best driving tractor yet.
12:04We have to get all that crud out before we can plant our nice sweet corn.
12:21Our small issue is this crack right here.
12:42This needs to be pressed together.
12:44We're missing two bolts and three nuts.
12:48I think we might be able to find them in our supply.
12:51Look at that.
12:58Look at that.
13:00The inner workings.
13:01Look, there's a little brush.
13:04Here's where our corn seeds come out.
13:05They sit right under here.
13:08Little finger pickups pick them up.
13:10Look at that.
13:10Spring loaded.
13:11It usually works pretty good.
13:15I'm impressed.
13:19Similar to size.
13:20The nut on the back.
13:24First try?
13:25How did I do that?
13:27All right.
13:27This is what we're looking for.
13:29All right.
13:29This right here.
13:37And this right here.
13:40Boltsandnuts.com keeping us well stocked and prepared.
13:47Just like that.
13:48All tightened.
13:49Ready to plant.
13:50We are learning from last year.
13:53The lessons that we learned.
13:54And also all of your guys' comments.
13:56And instead of planting our huge sweet corn patch all in one go.
14:01We are going to be doing this in stages.
14:03So we're going to go plant a little bit of sweet corn now.
14:08Someone wanted to be in the shot.
14:10And then wait a week or two.
14:12Plant some more.
14:13Wait another week.
14:14Plant some more.
14:15So on and so forth.
14:16So instead of it all being ready at one time.
14:19It's spaced out a little more evenly.
14:22Pepper, what do you think of the new tractor?
14:24She's inspecting it now.
14:26It's the first time she's been on it.
14:29Pepper usually finds her best napping spots on the seats of tractors.
14:34Old ones and new ones.
14:37They're her favorite spot to observe.
14:40What do you think, Pepper?
14:42You like it?
14:46Last step before we go out.
14:48Get it all greased up.
14:55A lot different than the hand pump grease guns.
15:00This thing is speedy.
15:03Doesn't take much.
15:04Is that all of them?
15:20They just hit the tractor over here too.
15:21Just checking on any of their moving points over here.
15:32There's got to be something up here.
15:33Yep, here we go.
15:34There's one on the back now.
15:55There's one up here on the front.
15:57The row inspection.
16:13It's safe to say there is a pretty enormous difference between this two-row planter right
16:19here and that 16-row planter behind us, which is not new by today's standards, but still
16:27just absolutely blows this planter out of the water.
16:31I'm nervous, but I'm excited to get on with it.
16:37I'm nervous, but I'm excited to get on with it.
17:17We've used this handy measuring tape as well as some bright orange clay pigeons to mark
17:40out so that we can make straight rows before we plant.
17:44So now when you're sitting on top of the tractor you can stare down these bright orange clay
17:49pigeons and just keep the nose of the tractor in the center then we will have our nice rows
17:54to plant on.
17:55You want to know something Grant?
17:57I should have worn pants.
17:59I've got medals in my knee.
18:02Look.
18:03Not often.
18:04Ouch.
18:05It hurts.
18:06Alright, let's get these rows cultivated.
18:09Alright, we're ready.
18:11Let's do this thing.
18:12I think you have a hydraulic knee, Sarah.
18:33Check that out.
18:39Nice and straight.
18:42Perfect.
18:44Wow, that looks nice.
18:51Beautiful disked dirt getting turned up into our rows.
18:56This smells amazing.
19:02These are working perfectly.
19:06Now let's see if he can do it on the way back.
19:09We don't need auto steer here.
19:13We have clay pigeons.
19:14Here we have clay pigeons.
19:15Here we have clay pigeons.
19:20We have clay pigeons.
19:22There's more in the way back.
19:23We have clay pigeons.
19:25Let's go for that.
19:26Here we go.
19:27Just like we go.
19:28Here we go.
19:29We have rồi.
19:30Look at these nice street roads.
19:59I think our method worked out pretty well.
20:02Now we are finally ready to plant.
20:06Could not ask for a better evening to do this.
20:10It's a calm, small breeze, sun is shining, a few clouds in the sky.
20:19Absolutely perfect.
20:23We are living the dream out here folks.
20:29Okay, planter is loaded with seed.
20:47Doesn't take much to plant this little patch.
20:49Does not take much, especially because we are only planting four rows this time.
20:55We will come back and plant four more next week.
21:02Okay, moment of truth.
21:05Time to plant.
21:06See if this is all worth it.
21:08Is this all going to be worth it?
21:10Got a lot of money sitting right here.
21:13I need to keep this silver line right here.
21:18That's my goal.
21:19So I can plant nice straight lines.
21:21That's why we cultivate it.
21:22Down more.
21:44Down more.
21:45Down more.
21:46Down more.
21:51Down more.
22:10Now, before we do any other passes, we need to dig around and check our seed depth.
22:36Seeds are going in every six inches.
22:40We're looking for little purple seeds here.
22:43Oh, there's one.
22:46So, let's go six inches this way and we should find another one.
22:52And look at that.
22:53We're planting.
22:54Is it deep enough?
22:55We could probably go a little bit deeper, but it's looking pretty good.
23:02There's lots of moisture under there, which I like.
23:05My rows aren't perfectly straight.
23:08You can see a little zigzag there where I was looking behind me too long.
23:12But all things considered, pretty good.
23:15So, let's go.
23:18So, let's go.
23:19So, let's go.
23:21So, let's go.
23:22So, let's go.
23:23So, let's go.
23:24So, let's go.
23:28So, let's go.
23:29So, let's go.
23:30So, let's go.
23:31So, let's go.
23:33So, let's go.
23:34So, let's go.
23:35So, let's go.
23:36So, let's go.
23:37So, let's go.
23:38So, let's go.
23:39So, let's go.
23:40So, let's go.
23:42So, let's go.
23:43So, let's go.
23:44So, let's go.
23:45So, let's go.
23:46So, let's go.
23:47So, let's go.
23:48So, let's go.
23:49So, let's go.
23:50So, let's go.
23:51So, let's go.
23:52So, let's go.
23:53So, let's go.
23:54So, let's go.
23:55So, let's go.
23:56So, let's go.
23:57So, let's go.
23:58So, let's go.
23:59It has been one week since we planted our first four rows of sweet corn and it is time
24:20to plant the next four. Every time, beautiful.
24:50To be continued...
26:50This tractor is so great.
27:00The one weakness that I'm finding with this planter is there's just so much play in our three-point hitch.
27:08It's kind of difficult to keep it on top of the row, but other than that, it seems to be going really well.
27:15It's just so dry out here.
27:17The seeds that we planted a week ago haven't even sprouted, so it's time to get some water on this.
27:22It's time to get some water on this.
27:23It's time to get some water on this.
27:24It's time to get some water on this.
27:28It's been two weeks since we planted our first rows of sweet corn.
27:56And good news, they're starting to come up in a neat little row.
28:02It's been one week since we planted our last four passes.
28:06Those have not emerged yet, but we're on week three, and it is time to plant our last four rows of sweet corn.
28:14So, in theory, all of our sweet corn will be ready one after another, from these rows all the way down to these rows.
28:21Not all at one time.
28:23Our planter has been working really well for us.
28:26We are just about out of seed.
28:30It doesn't take much.
28:31We've just got a little bit left in there to finish us out.
28:35It's holding up and doing really, really well, though.
28:37Let's get this thing fired up and go to work.
28:44Think she'll start?
28:46I know she will.
28:58Every time.
28:59Every time.
29:07All right.
29:27All right.
29:30All right.
29:30All right.
29:31Let's go.
30:01Let's go.
30:31Let's go.
31:01Let's go.
31:02Let's go.
31:03Let's go.
31:04Let's go.
31:06Let's go.
31:07Let's go.
31:08We did it.
31:11We struggled a little bit with keeping the planter on top of the row.
31:16I feel like we've got a lot of play and I don't think we have any sway blocks.
31:21So the mount just kind of moves back and forth a little bit.
31:25But all in all, I think that went really well.
31:28Sweet corn patch, second year in a row, is officially planted.
31:32So you're just going to have to stay tuned throughout the season to see how it goes
31:36because we still have a lot of watering, fertilizing, cultivating, all sorts of things to go before
31:43we can harvest this crop.
31:45Thank you so much for watching today's video.
31:47I hope you enjoyed it.
31:49Thank you for being here and we will see you in the next one.
31:52Bye.
31:53Bye.
