01:59Not even yet 50 years after the death of the Prophet and we are about to see the Prophet's
02:06own grandson being massacred...
02:08By a group of people and their leaders who were calling themselves Muslim.
02:15A kind of madness has entered into the picture.
02:21And that madness is about power.
02:28It's about this Umayyad dynasty.
02:34People with arrogant attitudes are now ruling.
02:37People of injustice, tyranny and corruption.
02:40It's now the turn of Muhammad's grandson, Hussein, to rise, to remove all these forms of injustice.
02:47He recognizes that he has to stand in order that he enjoins the good and forbids the evil.
02:52Hussein's ethos was about establishing freedom.
02:58He was facing tyranny and injustice.
03:01And he had a choice to make.
03:04Here was Hussein with only 72 followers facing an army of 30,000.
03:10He could have walked away with his life intact and his family, but he decided to make a stand, a selfless stand.
03:19A normal person would want to back down, but Hussein maintained his ground.
03:24A normal person would want to back down, but he did not take the time to make.
03:37A normal person would want to back down.
03:46A normal person would want to back down.
03:52Muawiyah appointed Yazid as the Caliph after him, contrary to the term of agreement with
04:10Hassan ibn Ali of the truce and the conditions that he had agreed upon with Al-Hassan.
04:22When he appointed Yazid as the Caliph, he admonished Yazid, he said,
04:29I have retrieved the oath of allegiance from all, say, four people.
04:35Of them were Al-Hassan ibn Ali.
04:43At the death of his father, he immediately dispatched a letter to the governor of Medina,
04:49who was also his first cousin, Walid ibn Utbah ibn Abi Sufyan.
04:58The letter read, as soon as you get this letter, summon Hussain and extract the oath of allegiance.
05:06Otherwise, put him to death.
05:10Ibn Abbas comes to Hussain.
05:11He says, O Hussain, stay in Makkah or return to Medina.
05:16Imam says, O Ibn Abbas, these people will seek me, search me out, and put me to death in Makkah and Medina.
05:26And I do not wish the sanctity of Medina and Makkah to be violated by the spilling of my blood.
05:33He said, O Hussain, then do know that the same fate awaits you on your route to Kufa.
05:40He states, I know this very well.
05:43He states, I know this very well.
06:10Finding Makkah unsafe, he prepares to leave.
06:18BIRDS CHIRP
06:48When Hussein was en route to Kufa, somebody cried out, Allahu Akbar.
06:54Imam said, indeed, Allah is great.
06:57But what makes you utter the takbir at this point?
07:01I see the date palms of Kufa here.
07:04There were people with Hussein who knew the route well.
07:08They said, we are at a great distance from Kufa.
07:10When they looked closely, they found an army drowned in armor coming towards them.
07:17Hussein said, it is an army.
07:19It is approaching us who will camp here.
07:22It was an army of a thousand.
07:24And that's why Horde the Yazid are here.
07:26No.
07:27What is your name?
07:32You're listening to figure out the lightcast.
07:32You're listening to Kufa.
07:38You're listening to Kufa's surgically bright.
07:38You're listening to Kufa, Malena.
07:40He's listening to Kufa'sregation attack.
07:41You're listening to Kufa'sdrians.
07:43Kufa, Demlagем famous words to Kufa's
07:52Imam engages with Hur, oh Hur, allow us to rest here, Hur refuses, he says Hur, allow
08:19us to return to Medina, Hur refuses, Hur allow us to go on a different path, Hur refuses.
08:33Hussein is forced to take a part at the banks of the Euphrates in the Magnoah, he arrives
08:39at a point where his steed refuses to move, he turns to Zuhair and he says, Zuhair, what
08:45is this land, he says it's known as Toph, the banks of Euphrates, he says, does it have
08:50another name, it is known as Neenawah, does it have another name, he said it is known
08:57as Karb and Bala, which means tribulations and sorrows.
09:13He descends from his steed, he takes his spear and embeds it firmly within the sand and calls
09:20out Wallahi by Allah.
09:23This is the place where our animals shall rest, where our tents shall be pitched, where we shall
09:29be killed, where our women shall be taken as captives, where our children shall be orphaned.
09:36It is here we shall be buried, and from here we shall be raised.
10:06We shall be buried, and from here we shall be buried, and from here we shall be buried,
10:34Umar bin Sa'ad ordered that the route towards the river is completely blocked off and the
10:42campsite of Hussain would not receive any water.
10:48From the 7th onwards, the campsite of Hussain had no water supply and therefore the thirst
10:57was prevalent amongst the adults and the children remembering the heat of the desert.
11:26It is the night of Ashura.
11:32The family and the companions of Hussain ibn Ali spent the night in worship, recitation
11:40of the Qur'an as well as prayers.
11:43Hussain ibn Ali summons his companions and his family.
11:48He says take the cloak of darkness of this night as a cover and flee for your lives for
11:57I relieve you of the constraints of the oath of allegiance.
12:01Free yourselves and go for by your death I shall not be saved.
12:08Hussain, do you doubt our loyalty and commitment to you?
12:13Hussain smiles and says no prophet nor wali has been given companions like the ones I have
12:19met with you in a few minutes.
12:41I don't know.
13:11I don't know.
13:41I don't know.
14:11I don't know.
14:41I don't know.
15:11I don't know.
15:41I don't know.
16:11I don't know.
16:41I don't know.
17:10I don't know.
17:40I don't know.
18:10I don't know.
18:40I don't know.
19:10I don't know.
19:40I don't know.
20:10As Akbar is loosening his grip embeds his spear in the chest of Akbar and the spear breaks and Akbar descends to the ground.
20:21They surrounded him, they surrounded him and they surrounded him and he calls out, oh father, peace be upon you.
20:34He looks at him, he looks at him, he looks at him, he looks at him, he says, oh Akbar, he says, oh Akbar, how insulent these people are in breaking the sanctity of the messenger of God.
21:01Oh Allah, oh Akbar, oh Akbar, oh Akbar, oh Akbar, oh Akbar, oh Akbar, oh Akbar, oh Akbar, oh Akbar, my life has no meaning after you.
21:05Oh Akbar, my life has no meaning after you.
21:09Hussein calls to the sons of Hashim, help me, I am unable to carry this son of mine.
21:16Sakina approaches him.
21:20Sakina approaches him.
21:34He says, oh Akbar, oh Akbar, oh Akbar, oh Akbar.
21:37And Hussein's sentiment is depicted in his words.
21:44Oh, star of dawn.
21:47How short was your life?
21:51life. Such is the duration of the life of the stars that they birthed and torn.
22:21Abbas enters within the tents. What does he find? That little children are dying of thirst.
22:41They are crying out for water and they are rubbing the water skins upon their bellies
22:47in order for the coolness of the water skin to relieve them of their thirst.
22:53Abbas takes a water skin and says, Oh children, fear not. I shall bring back some water for you.
23:01Abbas comes out of the tents and says, Oh Hussein, allow me to fetch some water for these thirsty dying children.
23:10Hussein looks at Abbas, knowing that he will not see his Abbas again.
23:16Abbas gives an eloquent khutbah. Let the standard bearer be the best amongst you. The strongest.
23:23Abbas gives an eloquent khutbah. Let the standard bearer be the best amongst you. The strongest.
23:31The bravest. The one with most resolve. For when the standard falls, so does the morale of the army. So long as the standard stands, the army stands.
23:38So long as the standard stands. The army stands.
23:45Look at the stature of this man. He was like a lofty mountain.
23:52And his heart was like a momentous wave. He was a champion swordsman, a fearless warrior.
23:59And he fearlessly advanced into the ranks of the enemy amidst the showering arrows.
24:06And the striking swords and the striking swords and spears. Abbas makes way.
24:13Abbas makes way.
24:14Abbas makes way.
24:20Abbas enters within the Euphrates. He fills the water skin.
24:21Abbas makes way.
24:22Abbas makes way.
24:27Abbas makes way.
24:34Abbas makes way.
24:45Abbas makes way.
24:48Abbas makes way.
24:53comes out of the Al-Qamah.
25:04The enemies know they cannot face this Abbas.
25:08There are trees around.
25:10Some of them hide behind the trees.
25:12As Abbas comes out of the Al-Qamah,
25:16Abbas engages with his enemies.
25:23There are trees around the desert and in their概念.
25:27There are trees around the Al-Qamah.
25:30Now, there are trees around the Al-Qamah.
25:33A there are trees around the Al-Qamah.
25:36It's just a Cool-Long-Long-Long-Long-Long-Long-Long-Long.
25:40The Al-Qamah is also a Retreater-Orléus.
25:42I think I can end up with a T-T-T-T-T.
25:46A is the Elm-Long-Long-Long-Long-Long-Long-Long-Long-Long.
25:49It's like a lot of trees up here.
25:51his right arm is cut and instead of the pain that he feels he cries out by Allah even if
26:19you are to cut my right arm I shall never cease to defend my deen and my imam his left arm is struck
26:31and he cries out Mosul do not fear the Kuffar and take the glad tidings of the Jabbah it is said
26:41that when Abbas took birth Ali ibn Abi Talib carried him in his hands and began to weep
26:49and kissed his arms they say oh Ali why do you weep at the birth of a child rejoice he said by Allah
26:58he will have them cut in the love of Husayn the historians narrate that Shimmer did not smile
27:07but when he heard the jubilant cries arising from Alkama he asked what has happened
27:15he was told Abbas has been put into death he broke into a smile he said now Husayn will not
27:33He was told Abbas has been put into death, he broke into a smile.
27:43He said now Hussein will not save himself.
27:47Now Hussein will die or will submit to Ibn Siyad.
28:02Hussein reaches Abbas, sits next to Abbas.
28:07He says, oh Abbas, oh my brother, Hussein tries to lift Abbas.
28:12Abbas said, oh brother, what is it that you're trying to do?
28:16Abbas, I must take you back to the tents.
28:19He said, oh Hussein, I beseech you for Allah, do not take me back.
28:24I had promised your Sakina water.
28:27I failed her.
28:29And if Hussein absees me in this state, her morale will break.
28:36Abbas gave a cry and lost his life.
28:42Hussein cries out, now my back is broken.
28:46Now my means have been severed.
28:48Sakina cries out, oh father, do you have any news of my uncle Abbas?
28:55He lies slain on the banks of the Euphrates, oh child.
28:59Oh, I do.
29:00So, thank you.
29:01Oh, I do, I do.
29:05Super cool.
29:08Let me see you do.
29:09Oh, Hussein, said his mother,
29:38I can no longer sustain him.
29:43And I want your child to remain with me.
29:46You shall be gone.
29:48I will look upon him,
29:50and he will be your remembrance for me.
29:54He covers Asgard under his Aba,
29:57ascends his steed,
29:58and walks towards the enemy.
30:01Hussein lifts his Aba
30:04and exposes his baby.
30:07And raises him upon his hands.
30:11And he says,
30:12O people,
30:13what crime has this child committed against you?
30:17Look at how he dies of thirst.
30:20Do you not see his lips dry?
30:23If you feel that I shall drink your water,
30:26then come and place a drop of water into his mouth yourself.
30:30And as he says this,
30:32the people in the army of Yazid
30:34begin to turn their faces and begin to weep.
30:38Fearing a rebellion,
30:40Omar ibn Sa'd looks at Hormala,
30:43sever the speech of Hussein, Hormala,
30:46cut him off.
30:47It cut the child's neck from ear to the ear.
30:56Hussein loses his senses and ability to reason.
31:00As the warm blood oozes from the severed neck of Asgard
31:02and falls into the palm of Hussein,
31:05the warmth of Hussein,
31:07the warmth of Asgard's innocent blood
31:09brings Hussein back to reality.
31:11He calls out,
31:12O Lord!
31:13He cups the blood
31:14and applies it upon his beard.
31:15And he says,
31:16O child,
31:17O child,
31:18like this shall we be raised
31:20with his senses and ability to reason.
31:22As the warm blood oozes from the severed neck of Asgard
31:24and falls into the palm of Hussein,
31:26the warmth of Asgard's innocent blood
31:28brings Hussein back to reality.
31:31He calls out,
31:32O Lord!
31:33He cups the blood
31:34and applies it upon his beard
31:36and he says,
31:37O child,
31:38O child,
31:39like this shall we be raised
31:41in front of your grandfather
31:43and my father.
32:05But it was time for him to go to the battlefield
32:08and fight courageously.
32:11He gathers the family members,
32:13starts to bid farewell to them,
32:15one by one.
32:17And he looked
32:18and there was one daughter of his,
32:20Sukaina,
32:21who was sitting in the corner of the tent.
32:26She looked up and said,
32:27O my father,
32:28is it true that I will be an orphan?
32:30He said,
32:31O my dear daughter,
32:32bear this and be patient
32:34for God the Almighty will reward you
32:37and will take you out
32:39of this difficult position.
32:41She said,
32:42O my father,
32:43if is this the case,
32:45then place your hands on my head
32:48just the way the orphans are treated.
32:51Hussain ibn Ali has now bid his farewell
32:58to his family members
33:00and goes towards the battlefield.
33:03Hussain ibn Ali has now bid his farewell
33:05to the battlefield.
33:06Hussain ibn Ali has now bid his farewell
33:07to the battlefield.
33:08Hussain ibn Ali,
33:09The next relative to the battlefield.
33:10JustIfIfIf
33:17Hussain ibn Aliligh.
34:08Then he looks towards his steed and spurs his steed and says,
34:18Oh steed, take your master to his final battle.
34:38He calls out, Oh godless enemies of Allah, do you know how you have violated the sanctity
34:51of the messenger of Allah?
34:53Do you know what blood you have spilled?
34:56When Umar ibn Saad saw that this was not working, he began saying to them,
35:17attacked him in Muslims, large numbers of people, just surrounded Hussein like rockets,
35:22everyone kept fighting to come from those sides, Hussein kept fighting.
35:47He extracts the arrows from his body, stands and engages the enemy.
36:00He says, By Allah, you will never again fight one like me.
36:06Abba Abdullah fights them to a great extent.
36:15Abba Abdullah trembled as he supplicated.
36:19He said, Oh lord, endurance upon your decree, acceptance of your final command.
36:28Oh lord, you are my only lord, the one I rely on on every affair.
36:35No one other than you is worthy of worship.
36:39We are told, stones are being thrown at him.
36:43Arrows are fired at him.
36:46The enemies surround him and mock at him.
36:50When Abba Abdullah falls to the ground, they all retreat.
36:56Not knowing his fate, Abba Abdullah is still breathing.
37:06There's the final moments of Abba Abdullah approach.
37:10As the army closes in on Abba Abdullah,
37:15Abba Abdullah's lips begin to move in the praise of Allah, subhanahu wa ta'ala.
37:21The enemy is called out, By Allah,
37:24we have not seen a man so deprived,
37:27so helpless, so hungry, so thirsty, so wounded,
37:32about to die, but his face radiates
37:35as Abba Abdullah's face radiates.
37:37With serenity and eulogizing Allah,
37:42Shimmer advances towards Abba Abdullah.
37:46Abba Abdullah barely finds himself in his tajidah.
37:51Shimmer grabs the hair of Imam Hussein from the back
37:54and flings him upon his back.
37:57In another hadith,
38:11Jibreel alayhi salam, he said,
38:12your community will kill this son of yours.
38:15And the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam replied,
38:18they will kill him while believing in me?
38:20And he said, yes.
38:23And then Jibreel brought forth soil and said,
38:26from such and such a place,
38:28Ali radiallahu anhu, he said,
38:30I entered upon the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam one day
38:33and his eyes were pouring forth tears.
38:36I said, messenger of God,
38:37has someone angered and upset you?
38:39What is the matter that your eyes weep?
38:41He sallallahu alayhi wa sallam replied,
38:44rather, Jibreel stood with me,
38:45before me and informed me
38:47that Hussein would be killed
38:48by the banks of the Euphrates.
38:50When he stands at that place,
38:52there is individuals who dare
38:54to even think of harming a hair
38:57of the grandson of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
39:01A young boy who upon his birth,
39:03the Prophet made the yaqika for him.
39:06He called the adhan in his ears.
39:09He did the tahniq,
39:10he put his blessed saliva
39:12into the mouth of his grandson.
39:14He gave him his name?
39:21The enemies turned their direction
39:24towards the tent
39:26of the daughters of Muhammad Ali and Fatima.
39:31Orders are given,
39:33set the tents alight
39:34and take the women of Hussein
39:37as captives to obeyedullah alayhi wa sallam.
39:40Torches were brought to the tent.
39:44It is said that the wails of women were taken.
39:56There is a call.
39:58Prepare for captivity
40:00and he had returned to Pufa.
40:09Sakina was not separating
40:11from the body of her father.
40:13Upon insistence she would not leave,
40:15Shimmer unleashed his whip
40:17and cracked it upon the back of the young child.
40:22She trembled and ran into the arms of her arms.
40:25he would not leave,
40:26and he is not signed.
40:26Sorry about this.
40:28I had a suggestion of that.
40:29I was worried about the men
40:30but that the women
40:31were not down to the back of him.
40:32But the men,
40:32he would not leave him at the back of him.
40:33He would not break his clothes
40:34and be the other men the people
40:34but the women had been a professional.
40:35So I would not leave him at it.
40:36He would not leave him at this.
40:38There was a vielä men
40:39that he would leave you at the back of his head
40:40but he would not break him.
41:40And for millions across the world today, Hussein stands as the exemplary individual and the role model in seeking to establish freedom, dignity, honor, and the right for self-expression.
41:56We can learn from Hussein. We can learn from Hussein in the fact that we have to maintain our determination with whatever goals that we set.
42:06He becomes a role model of saying, we will stand on the principles of truth and justice. We will resist oppression. We will not give in, even to the point of death, if that's what God has ordained for us.
42:22Whether we're religious or not, whether we're Christians or Muslims or anything else, where do we stand on the question of truth and justice?
42:36How important is it to us and to what lengths are we prepared to go to defend these principles?
42:43And so today, the name of Imam Hussein continues to be held up as a flag of human equality and dignity.
42:50And those people who are standing up for these causes, remember the name of Imam Hussein.
42:55Don't believe that the message of Imam Hussein is limited to a race or a nation or a religion, even.
43:12Remembering, keeping alive, commemorating those events gives us something upon which we can reflect in our own human lives today.
43:25Let's pray.
