00:00A police forensic team exhumed the body of 13-year-old Zahra Kairina Mahathir from the
00:06Tanjung Ubi Muslim Cemetery in Mesapol, Sipitang, on Saturday.
00:11The operation followed an order by Magistrate Zuraini Ali Musa, who granted police permission
00:17to proceed during a hearing at the Papar District Police Headquarters.
00:21The exhumation began at about 4.45 p.m., witnessed by Zahra Kairina's parents, their
00:27lawyer and officials from the Sabah Islamic Religious Affairs Department and the State
00:32Mufti's Office to ensure it was conducted respectfully and in accordance with Islamic
00:37rights.
00:38Family and friends, including her 83-year-old grandfather, Hasim Tuwa, braved the rain to
00:44be at the cemetery from as early as noon.
00:47Hasim, who last saw Zahra Kairina on her birthday last year, said he hoped the process would
00:53go smoothly and yield evidence to assist the investigation.
00:57The operation took about two hours, after which the remains were sent to Queen Elizabeth
01:02Hospital I in Kota Kinabalu at around 7.40 p.m.
01:07A post-mortem was scheduled for Sunday to help determine the cause of the teenager's death.
