A special task force under Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has been formed to take over the investigation into the death of Zara Qairina Mahathir.

In a statement, the Inspector-General of Police Secretariat (Corporate Communications) said the nine-member team has been deployed to Sabah to ensure the probe is carried out transparently and thoroughly.

00:12In a statement on Monday, the Inspector General of Police Secretariat said the nine-member team

00:22professionally and thoroughly. The Secretariat urged the public to refrain from interference
00:28or speculation that could compromise the process, stressing that all cases involving loss of life
00:34are treated with utmost seriousness. Zara Kairina's remains were exhumed last Saturday
00:39from the Tanjung Ubi Muslim Cemetery in Kampung Mesapol, Sipithang, on the instruction of the
00:46Attorney General's Chamber's AGC for a post-mortem to determine the cause of death.
00:52The AGC said further investigation by police was necessary to ensure all aspects of the
00:58case are examined. Her remains were reburied at the same cemetery on Monday. Zara Kairina
01:03died on July 16, after reportedly falling from the third floor of her school hostel in Papar.
