00:01:20As the Nitro girls are in the center of the ring, we welcome you to our number one, where tonight, in the first Nitro of 1999, we celebrate pro wrestling's number one program with world championship wrestling.
00:01:36It's Tony Schiavone, the living legend Larry Zemesko, and the professor Mike Tanay.
00:01:41And as you saw at the top, we are geared up, we are locked in for Goldberg.
00:01:47And next, the return bounce tonight for the World Heavyweight Championship.
00:01:51Wow, what a way to kick off 1999!
00:01:57It's great to be home, it's great to be in the Dome, and it's return match time.
00:02:02World's title on the line with, believe it or not, Goldberg in the role of the challenger.
00:02:07Well, it's time for justice to prevail.
00:02:10Of course, now we have a new leader here for the next short period of time, whatever, but a man of tradition.
00:02:17Man from the old school.
00:02:19We're gonna put things right in WCW.
00:02:21Not only is it the very first, ladies and gentlemen, the Nitro of 1999, it's the first Nitro under the regime of Richard M. Flair.
00:02:30Ric Flair is in charge of World Championship Wrestling, and a new day is dawning in pro wrestling.
00:02:35We're pumped up and excited to bring you WCW Monday Nitro.
00:02:41In addition, tonight, Hollywood Hogan is here, we understand.
00:02:44Gonna come out and talk to his fans.
00:02:47Thank the fans for all their support down through the years.
00:02:50As you know, he's retired.
00:02:51It'll be the first time we've had a chance to hear from Hollywood Hogan since he announced his retirement back on Thanksgiving night on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
00:03:00And a big party going on here, as you can see, with the Nitro Girls.
00:03:04Hit over 40,000 fans on hand.
00:03:06But as this party is taking place here on the floor at the Georgia Dome, there's a Nitro Party going on.

00:04:33As they are celebrating already and they, it seems like A in the suite, want Goldberg.
00:04:38Well, as we said, Goldberg and Kevin Nash, the big return Nash, the first night you're
00:04:43under the regime of Ric Flair, now in charge of the company.
00:04:46In a few moments, we're going to take you back to last Monday in Baltimore, the historic
00:04:50night it was when Ric Flair slapped the figure four across the legs of Eric Bischoff.
00:04:56Bischoff pointed right to Ric Flair and said, you're the winner, you're the man.
00:05:01And the flair, Mike today is now in charge.
00:05:03Tony, there have been so many memorable moments in the three plus years of Monday
00:05:08Nitro, but nothing quite like that emotion that we saw last Monday, even to the point
00:05:15where you joined the victory celebration in mid-ring.
00:05:18Hey, it was an exciting night, but I tell you of all the people who got involved in what
00:05:23went down last Monday, I think the most shocking tournament had to be when Randy Savage, the
00:05:29Macho Man Randy Savage, walked out unannounced with his gorgeous lady to his side, came out
00:05:35with a black and white NWO, fooled the Giants, and helped Ric Flair maintain that figure four
00:05:41and win the match, and really, if you think about it, and try to analyze why Savage got
00:05:46involved, I mean, obviously, as no love lost for Eric Bischoff, we go back to this program
00:05:52back when we were in New York City, back in Uniondale, and his leg, his knee was busted
00:05:57thanks to Eric Bischoff.
00:05:59Well, who'll ever forget that night when they set the Macho Man Randy Savage up in the corner,
00:06:04and then all the NWO black and white members cheered Eric Bischoff on while they broke the
00:06:09leg of the Macho Man.
00:06:11So really, Living Legend, you can understand why the Macho Man got involved like he did last week.
00:06:17Oh, I can understand.
00:06:18I was glad to see it, and nothing made me happier.
00:06:22In fact, I ran in the ring myself at the end.
00:06:24I was just so elated to hear those words Bischoff with screaming uncle to a man like Flair.
00:06:32And Glacier's already in the ring.
00:06:33A big humorous comes into the ring with a brand new look.
00:06:37A head shave, Jimmy Hart is mentor to his side.
00:06:41It's been quite a while since we've seen this big man, but he truly is one of the most dangerous
00:06:45men in our sport.
00:06:47And he and Glacier will hook it up here in the opening bout three hours live here from
00:06:51the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
00:06:5340,000 plus fans are on hand.
00:06:56Like we said, we've had a spectacular run at the end of the year with the Astrodome,
00:07:01and of course, with the TWA Dome in St. Louis.
00:07:04But this breaks them all, over 40,000 fans will get an official tally for you a little
00:07:09bit later on in this telecast.
00:07:11Absolutely phenomenal, Tony.
00:07:12You take those three Dome events, Houston, St. Louis, and Atlanta, like you mentioned,
00:07:16and we're looking at 100,000 fans attending Monday Nitro, just those three events alone.
00:07:23You are showing a little bit of quickness here in the opening bout.
00:07:27Well, everybody here had their own opinion about how the match went down at Starrcade when
00:07:32Kevin Nash became the world champ.
00:07:35But Nash said last week on this program, he's gonna try to right a wrong, so to speak.
00:07:41And he's putting that title on the line against certainly a man who, without a doubt,
00:07:45is a hometown favorite here in Atlanta in Goldberg.
00:07:47Well, it's the only right thing to do.
00:07:50How can Kevin Nash look at himself in the face and be a champion the way he wanted?
00:07:56Obviously, he's not happy with it, but at least justice will prevail in the end, Tony.
00:08:01Goldberg is ready.
00:08:03I believe Goldberg is ready as well.
00:08:05And then Hollywood Hogan on hand here tonight to talk to his fans.
00:08:09And certainly, the long, monstrous career of this man is handing the ring.
00:08:13It's only fitting in front of our biggest crowd ever for WCW Monday Nitro that he
00:08:18would come out here and address the fans as he has plans to move into politics and
00:08:23is retired from the wrestling ring.

00:10:46and that heightened anticipation now that the Nature Boy, Ric Flair,
00:10:51is in charge of World Championship Wrestling.
00:10:53I can't wait to hear what the Nature Boy has in store for the speech.

00:10:59You know, I wonder how the NWO feels now that the shoe's on the other foot
00:11:04and they can't get away with all the legal loopholes.

00:18:24champion of the world ladies and gentlemen please welcome a nature boy rick flair
00:18:34gonna be a few moments before flair will make his way to the ring in this mass
00:18:39georgia dome but there you see many of wcws behind the scenes employees standing up cheering rick flair
00:18:46who is now their boss and i tell you knowing this working behind the scenes like we all do
00:18:52a lot had gone on behind the scenes in this abuse of power that eric bischoff had you did not know
00:18:59and there were a lot of people behind the scenes mike that were thrilled to see the changing of the
00:19:04guard like we were here out of the point like we are every monday and i think that was one of the
00:19:08reasons behind that celebration last monday and you see the respect that the wcw employees the wcw
00:19:15family has for the new boss the nature boy rick flair as he makes his way into the georgia dome
00:19:21saw the pride just almost emanating out of flair the sense of accomplishment after what he did what
00:19:27he accomplished last monday night in baltimore rick talking about walking out without the pressure on you
00:19:32get that monkey off your back and the monkey looked just like eric bischoff but it's not there anymore
00:19:40the eruption you hear is because rick flair arn anderson the horsemen rick flair's family have
00:19:45made their way to the entranceway and in full view here of 40 000 plus fans here at the georgia dome and
00:19:52here he comes our leader and i can just imagine what he has in store for world championship wrestling
00:20:00there's so many things that he can and should do and there's dean malenko on crutches you know the
00:20:06story behind that understand that dean malenko was involved in a matchup last night at the wcw arena
00:20:12event in columbus georgia where he suffered an ankle injury they apparently took dean malenko to the
00:20:19doctors this afternoon they x-rayed it we believe it's a sprained ankle at this point tony yeah and don't
00:20:24forget something there's two sides to every coin all the good that the nature boy can do for wcw
00:20:31also means the other coin side says how much bad can he do to the new world order now he is right for
00:20:39pro wrestling let me tell you that not only because he's a 13-time former world champ but he is also
00:20:45a very successful businessman as well now we'll touch on here in the course of the evening
00:20:50uh with many gymnasiums not only in charlotte his hometown but also throughout the country gene

00:22:17building saw you back there unless you want to go to work for somebody else tomorrow you'll come out

00:26:03him in the eye and said kid too bad too bad about your two kids too bad about your wife too bad about
00:26:10your mortgage payment you're fired we've got that on tape right here let's take a look at that if we may
00:26:15just do i guess uh refresh the people you realize that you violated company policy no sir i just thought
00:26:22i was doing my job now you didn't do your job no the steiners were the ones doing the job they were
00:26:30beat i'll tell you what i know that you've had a tough year but because i know i don't want to hear
00:26:37about your personal problems i know that you've had a tough year but under the circumstances i have
00:26:44there is i have no other choice you are hereby terminated

00:29:46to be a huge event we want the world to know the world championship wrestling not the nwo is putting it
