Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlined on Thursday, with China's support, the BRICS bloc's first response to the tariffs imposed by the United States. China again criticized Washington's trade abuses, while Brazil and India reaffirmed their commitment to multilateralism and pledged to strengthen trade integration. At the end of the phone call, Planalto, the headquarters of Brazilian diplomacy, confirmed that Vice President Geraldo Alckmin will travel to India this October. The Indian Prime Minister, in addition to highlighting the positive results of his conversation with President Lula, promised to defend the interests of his country's farmers and fishermen and to expand the preferential agreement with Mercosur.
