00:00So as expected, Sri Lanka had no problems in getting past Canada, but what about New Zealand?
00:04Well, they'd played earlier in the day in a Group A fixture that had the potential to be a bit tricky
00:08as they were up against the 2003 semi-finalist, Kenya.
00:12Now, it was played in Chennai, in India.
00:15Kenya won the toss. They decided to bat first, and let's just check out the two teams for you.
00:19Here we go.
00:21And now that New Zealand side, a lot of depth in batting and a bowling attack,
00:25which, with the retirement of Shane Bond, may not have the obvious cutting edge that it used to have,
00:29but it just might be well set up for the slower-paced Asian wickets.
00:33For Kenya, well, there was quite a bit of experience with the likes of Ticolo, Aboyo, Adoyo,
00:37and the captain, Jimmy Commandee, all familiar World Cup faces.
00:41And there's also a great amount of interest in the young English-educated opener, Seren Waters.
00:46So Kenya to bat first. Here's how they got on.
00:53Here comes Southie.
00:56There's a shout here.
00:57And he's gone this time. He has got him.
01:13And the first picket falls at 14.
01:16Obanda going across his dumps one too often.
01:20And Southie on target this time.
01:22So he picks up the first picket and Kenya blasts one for 14.
01:35The impact is in line.
01:38And it's saying that it would have gone over the top.
01:41But they didn't use the challenge, Kenya.
01:44So one is back in the pavilion.
01:47Obanda with 14 on the board.
01:49There he goes over the top.
02:01Using his feet well from the very beginning.
02:03Came in, came down the pitch, immediately using his feet.
02:09This time confident enough to get under the ball and loft it over mid-off.
02:14So he gets off the mark with the first scoring shot.
02:17Other than a single with a boundary.
02:19There's a sweep.
02:30We'll go away for another boundary.
02:32It's a very good start here from Colin Zaboya.
02:34He's got the foot and the accelerator from the very start.
02:38Two boundaries to him after a very slow start for New Zealand.
02:42They're 23 for one from eight overs.
02:43Just past the diving keeper.
02:49Inside edge gets a boundary.
02:53So all of a sudden, Kenya have just started to accelerate that.
02:57A very lucky one.
02:59First boundary for Waters.
03:06Just might have stayed down a little bit low.
03:08I've seen the odd one do that so far this morning.
03:11Inside edge.
03:14McCullum, no chance for him.
03:29Quick single.
03:31Shire at the bowler's end.
03:32Direct hit.
03:33May have been close.
03:34Jacob Orem is the fieldsman in that short, fine leg position.
03:43I wonder.
03:44A little bit slow taking off.
03:46I wonder whether this might have been out.
03:47It would have been.
03:48Oh, big shout.
03:56Now, that might be out.
03:57Yes, it is.
03:59Full and straight.
04:03Umpire thought about it for a second or two,
04:05but he didn't have to think about it for too long.
04:08Second wicket goes down at 40 at the end of the 12th.
04:12Yeah, he's been reasonably short throughout the spell.
04:19Hamish Bennett tried to hurry up the Kenyan batsman.
04:21This time he went full, angled in.
04:25Looked like it was going on to hit middle and leg stump maybe.
04:27And big appeal from the New Zealanders.
04:34Hamish Bennett gets his man.
04:37Waters has to go for 16.
04:41And Kenya lose their second wicket.
04:43It is now 40 for two.
04:52Straight away.
04:53He's one of the more senior players in this Kenya side.
04:56Immediately off the mark with a couple.
05:01That's nicely played.
05:02He rode the bounce.
05:12Bowled him out.
05:13Wow, what a good delivery.
05:15Full, straight.
05:17And Kenya now in all sorts of trouble.
05:22Well, if he rode the bouncing delivery last ball very well,
05:25and he was nowhere near this one.
05:27Good bowling from Hamish Bennett.
05:28Short ball followed up by a very good, quick full ball.
05:32Similar to the one that got the LBW,
05:34and that has just smashed the stumps everywhere.
05:37Steve Ticcolo too late.
05:40And Bennett straight through the defences.
05:43And he picks up his second wicket now.
05:46Steve Ticcolo goes for just the two runs.
05:48It's 42 for three.
06:00Oh, there's a big shout.
06:02That is out.
06:03Bennett is doing some terrible damage.
06:07Batsman has asked for them to have another look at this.
06:11It's a DRS, which we haven't seen from the Kenyans up to now.
06:20No problem there.
06:22About half the boot behind.
06:25Where did it hit him on the pad?
06:28That's the key.
06:29It's angled in from outside off.
06:32Oh, that's...
06:33I think that's a pretty poor review, to be honest with you.
06:35If that's not going on to hit middle and leg,
06:38I'm not sure what is.
06:40Hit him in line.
06:43Yeah, no problem there at all.
06:47Well, it's one of the worst reviews I've ever seen, I think.
06:51It's hitting about six inches up middle.
06:59Anyway, what it does mean...
07:01Is that Obuyo's out for 14.
07:08It's the final confirmation.
07:09He's already on his way.
07:11And Kenya now reeling at 44 for four.
07:19First thing from here is to make sure that they utilize all 50 overs
07:23that are available to them.
07:25But not much use if you're just going to nudge it about
07:28and get a very low score.
07:36Had a little sweep across that.
07:38Everyone got excited.
07:39But he's got a bottom edge on it and might.
07:42No, he won't.
07:43I thought he might have got a boundary out of that, but he hasn't.
07:46But it will be three.
07:5148 for four then.
07:52Off 15.
07:58Oh, he's got another one.
08:00I'm telling you, he's got another one.
08:02Yes.
08:03Wow.
08:04Wonderful spell this from Hamish Bennett.
08:06Beautiful work.
08:12Really good work.
08:13And it seems as though it might well be another review here.
08:18Nope.
08:19There isn't.
08:19He consulted his mate and he's going to walk off the park.
08:23Omar on his way.
08:24LBW.
08:27Very good bowling it is by Bennett.
08:29He's been direct right at the stumps.
08:32Yeah, good work.
08:44Perhaps just a touch outside the line.
08:47Is it?
08:47Is it on off stump?
08:49Could he have gone upstairs?
08:51He didn't.
08:52Morris Omer's gone for one.
08:54It is a 49 for five.
08:56Well struck.
09:02A good shot swept in front of square and it's gone for four.
09:08Patel gets four and Kenya add four to their score.
09:12They've not been able to score freely.
09:15And would like to somewhat try and break the shackles.
09:18Outside edge.
09:26Gone.
09:28And Orem gets an early breakthrough.
09:31And the 150th wicket for Big Jake.
09:38Kamande just looking to run that down to third man.
09:40It bounced a touch more.
09:42He's six foot six.
09:44Jacob Orem.
09:45And does generally get some bounce.
09:48And outside edge is a good catch.
09:50By Brendan McCallum having to go to his right.
09:55Makes absolutely no mistake.
09:57And it's celebration time for the New Zealanders again.
10:00Kamande gone for two.
10:01It's 59 for six.
10:02Look for a couple in.
10:13Make it easy.
10:23Seven and eight on it.
10:24Seven and eight on it.
10:25Seven and eight on it.
10:25Seven and eight on it.
10:25And leading edge.
10:28And that's as simple as you get.
10:30It's just stood up a little bit.
10:32And Doya can't believe it.
10:35But he's going to have to go.
10:37Simple catch to Jesse Ryder.
10:42Good bounce there from Jacob Orem.
10:44He really hit the pitch hard.
10:46And that lifted quite steeply.
10:50Looked as if it might have taken the shoulder of the bat.
10:53Very simple for Jesse Ryder.
10:56So Kenyon now 63 for seven.
10:58And a delightful French cut.
11:08No, it's buys.
11:09Didn't get anything on it.
11:10Thank you, Rod Tucker.
11:12And 22 overs are gone at 67 for seven.
11:20Yeah, New Zealand doing exactly what they had to do.
11:23Get some early wickets.
11:25Get on top of the off position.
11:26It's gone a little bit off the seam.
11:29Heaven knows how it missed the leg stump.
11:32Jacob Orem can't believe it.
11:37Gone this time.
11:38The woodwork has been disturbed again.
11:41And Southie has bowled another straight delivery.
11:44The off pole disappears.
11:48Yorker doing the trick on this occasion for Tim Southie.
11:52It really has been a very good exercise in attacking the stumps.
11:56All the New Zealand bowlers bowling at the stumps.
12:01And it's been very, very successful for them.
12:06Terrific sight for a quickie.
12:08As the off stump goes cartwheeling back towards the keeper.
12:12It's 68 for eight.
12:13Southie with the Yorker.
12:19Berger feeling gone.
12:20He's on a hat-trick.
12:21It's Tim Southie.
12:23Beautiful delivery.
12:25Unless there was a bit of wood there.
12:27Well, he had to go.
12:28Had to go.
12:29First ball.
12:30And Gochi is out of here for a first ball duck.
12:37Well, Tim Southie's already got a hat-trick in 2020 cricket.
12:41Got one against Pakistan in picking up a five-fer.
12:45Now he's got an opportunity to do it in the one-day game.
12:48Right on the toe.
12:49He really has been terrific at bowling at the stumps, Southie.
12:55And it's paid good dividends for him.
12:5868 for nine.
13:02In the air and gone.
13:03So, Southie is not going to get a chance of his hat-trick.
13:11It's a shame, but there you go, because it's all over, folks.
13:15All out for 69 in the 24th over.
13:25New Zealand, absolutely delighted.
13:28It's all gone to plan for them.
13:33And Styrus took the last catch.
13:36So, all out for 69.
13:39And that man is very happy.
13:45Well, that took just over an hour and three quarters.
13:4869 all out was Kenya's worst effort in World Cups
13:51and the fifth lowest of all time in the tournament.
13:5416 was the top score.
13:55Extras weren't far behind.
13:57And it was really just horribly disappointing for a Kenyan side
14:00who would hope to prove that the associate members
14:01do have a big part to play in the competition.
14:05From New Zealand's point of view,
14:06it was a near-perfect performance with the ball,
14:09with Hamish Bennett bowling full and straight, the main assassin.
14:13Now, it all meant that New Zealand needed just 70
14:15to get their first points in Group A on the board.
14:18And we'll show you what happened next.
14:20Welcome back to today's highlights from the 2011 ICC World Cup.
14:33We're currently focusing on today's events in Chennai,
14:36where New Zealand destroyed Kenya,
14:38batting by bowling them out for 69,
14:41the fifth lowest total ever in the Cup.
14:43Well, here now is the Kiwi run chase.
14:45Here we go.
14:50Here's Gapdil facing.
14:53Right on!
14:55Good save in the covers.
14:57No run.
15:01In New Zealand, just overwhelming the Kenyan batting line-up.
15:07They did it by bowling full and straight.
15:10Medium pace to start with for Kenya.
15:24There he goes this time.
15:26Well, four dot balls,
15:27and then the fifth one had to go for four from Gapdil.
15:29Just too short on that occasion.
15:36Gapdil was very quickly in the position to play the pool shot.
15:44That was the difference with the New Zealand bowling.
15:46They were full and straight.
15:47And that'll be another boundary for Gapdil.
15:56Danny Morrison has left the commentary position.
15:58I've been joined by Tony Kozier.
16:02Thank you, Ian.
16:03Again, short.
16:07Cut away.
16:09And a four.
16:11So New Zealand in a commanding position,
16:14and you wouldn't think that they would be denied victory here,
16:18and it would be a turnaround for them.
16:20They've had a horrible time
16:21in the last year or so,
16:24in one-day internationals especially.
16:26And only two of their last 18.
16:33Again,
16:34too short and cut away.
16:38So three boundaries now to the Gapdil.
16:41That was an easy put away for him.
16:47Yeah, not learning the lesson
16:48that New Zealand should have taught them.
16:53The New Zealand bowlers being full and straight.
16:56But so far,
16:58Kenyan bowlers have been short
16:59and giving a little bit of width
17:01outside off stump.
17:07In the air and a catch
17:09dropping just between the fielders.
17:12Agonizing for
17:13Waters coming in from mid-wicket.
17:18And the mid-on fielder just couldn't quite get there.
17:21Top-edged pull shot.
17:23Again, short, so
17:26what we've been saying about the short delivery,
17:30well, I suppose that should have gone
17:31off the middle of the bat,
17:33but not timed at all by
17:34McCullum.
17:35He gets away with it.
17:36Yeah, he was surprised by the pace,
17:47Brennan Cullum.
17:49Perhaps he was charging onto the front foot
17:51a bit as well.
17:52Not expecting something short.
18:01Kenya in Group A.
18:04The big match, I suppose,
18:05will be against Canada.
18:07Another associate.
18:09Another work,
18:10bit of work here for the umpires
18:11to do this time.
18:12Rod Duccas is not out
18:13to the leg before appeal.
18:14There's no
18:15review asked for
18:18by the Kenyans.
18:21Seem very confident
18:22with the appeal.
18:23Have a look.
18:28Just missing leg.
18:29In fact, they've now decided
18:32after a bit of
18:33consultation
18:36that perhaps they will have a review.
18:40Reviews,
18:41or one of their reviews
18:42was not very
18:43not very successful
18:46and not very smart
18:47when they were batting.
18:48It was actually showed
18:49to be hitting
18:50halfway up middle.
18:54Wasn't a good challenge,
18:55that one.
18:56Yeah, and in fact,
18:56they had another one
18:57which was given out.
18:58They didn't.
18:59Asked for a review on that
19:00and it showed
19:01that the ball
19:02was going to strike
19:02the batsman
19:03outside the off stump.
19:04Well, it's not a no ball
19:06so that's fair.
19:13No edge onto it.
19:18I think we may find
19:19on the review
19:21that the ball
19:21is going to miss leg stump.
19:23Let's have a look.
19:25And it is missing.
19:27Ian Chappell called it
19:28to early on
19:29to early on
19:29so that's a wasted review
19:32by the Kenyans
19:32but I suppose they
19:33with only 70 to get
19:35for New Zealand
19:36and it's not that far away.
19:39Might as well finish
19:40the innings
19:41with no challenges left.
19:43Not much point saving them up.
19:45They don't carry over
19:46to the next game.
19:47beautiful hit
19:52absolutely straight back
19:54over the boulder's head
19:55confidently played
19:58for a boundary
19:58we've had four of them
20:00already from Guptill
20:02he moves to 18
20:04it's 20
20:04without loss.
20:05short and just over
20:20mid-wicket
20:22again
20:24McCollum
20:25not timing the ball
20:26properly
20:27was lucky to get away
20:28with one
20:28and the last over
20:29top edge
20:29was just dropped
20:31between mid-wicket
20:32and mid-on
20:32this time
20:33just managed to clear
20:35the leaping
20:36mid-wicket fielder
20:37does get a couple
20:42for it
20:42hasn't quite found
20:45his timing
20:45has he
20:46and the McCollum
20:47has only faced
20:48four deliveries
20:48Guptill's had
20:50most of the strike
20:51good opportunity
20:58for him
20:58to just settle down
20:59get a nice little
21:00nod out
21:01get his tournament
21:04underway
21:05one
21:12nice
21:16magic
21:16Odeano
21:19after two boundaries
21:20of his first two
21:21deliveries
21:21was too short
21:22got a much better
21:24length here now
21:25would have been
21:31home
21:31had the ball
21:32hit the stumps
21:32and he's gone
21:36again
21:37straight back
21:37overhead
21:38now did it
21:42carry
21:42if it did
21:42it just
21:43barely did
21:43umpire
21:45Erasmus
21:46waiting for
21:49confirmation
21:49as to where
21:50the ball
21:50pitched
21:51hits the ball
21:55down the ground
21:56as well
21:56as anyone
21:57Guptill
21:58in good form
22:00home in New Zealand
22:03in the Pakistan
22:04series
22:04and has gone
22:05all the way
22:06no problem
22:09there
22:09all the way
22:10for six
22:11extension
22:15of those arms
22:16and lovely
22:16follow-through
22:17there he goes
22:25again
22:26absolutely
22:28straight
22:29hit
22:29and a
22:29tremendous
22:30hit
22:30it's
22:31carried
22:32I would
22:33say
22:33all of
22:33100
22:34meters
22:34third
22:37shot
22:39like that
22:39we've seen
22:40from Guptill
22:40hitting
22:41straight
22:42and beautifully
22:43super
22:44shot
22:45another
22:45slower
22:45ball
22:46is very high
22:47has gone
22:50a long
22:51way
22:51just a little
22:55shimmy down
22:56the wicket
22:56just exploding
23:00through the
23:00crease
23:00will that go
23:05all the way
23:06as well
23:06no not quite
23:07this time
23:07too short
23:09and McCollum
23:11even though
23:11he's not
23:12getting hold
23:12of these
23:13hook and pull
23:14shots
23:14still gets
23:15enough top
23:16edge
23:16onto it
23:16for a
23:16boundary
23:17charge down
23:19the wicket
23:19McCollum
23:20quite a long
23:20way down
23:21thinking
23:23from the
23:24short ball
23:26top edge
23:29way for
23:31another boundary
23:32so New Zealand
23:33doing this
23:33very quickly
23:35at the moment
23:35so the first
23:38spin
23:39starts again
23:44with a ball
23:45which is too
23:45short
23:46down the
23:47leg side
23:47always was
23:48going to be
23:49a boundary
23:49for batsman
23:50who is as
23:51well set
23:51as Guptill
23:52he's racing
23:54along here
23:55Martin
23:55Guptill
23:5636 now
23:57just
23:59sure
23:59pulled
24:01away
24:01comfortably
24:01it's
24:05gone
24:06straight
24:06through
24:06it's
24:07turned
24:07wait for
24:09the
24:09umpire
24:09but it
24:10might
24:10be
24:10buys
24:11and it
24:16is
24:16keep
24:29not
24:29gathering
24:30ball
24:31turning a bit
24:31there from
24:32Monday
24:34he took
24:41some time
24:41to get
24:41things right
24:42but he
24:43finished off
24:43pretty well
24:43six overs
24:45gone
24:4553
24:46without
24:46loss
24:46no
24:54ball
24:54front foot
24:56no ball
24:56too
24:56so it'll
24:57be a free
24:57hit
24:57which I'm
24:58sure Brendan
24:59McCullum
24:59will look
24:59forward
25:00to
25:00here's a
25:07free
25:07hit
25:07and he
25:09is not
25:09of course
25:10knocked
25:11the middle
25:11stump
25:12over
25:12tried
25:13something
25:13too
25:14clever
25:14he plays
25:20this ramp
25:20shot
25:20a lot
25:21Brendan
25:22McCullum
25:23when he's
25:24going
25:24so not a
25:25bad time
25:25to practice
25:26it really
25:26you've got
25:26a free
25:27hit
25:27so you
25:29so you know
25:29you can't
25:30be out
25:30it's a good
25:30time to
25:31practice
25:31it
25:31and match
25:32conditions
25:33he tries
25:39for it
25:39he only gets
25:40a boundary
25:40this time
25:41coming down
25:41the wicket
25:41over the
25:42boulder's
25:43head
25:43reduces the
25:44deficit
25:44now to
25:45eight
25:45certainly
25:49certainly
25:49wasn't
25:49there
25:50to go
25:51through
25:51with the
25:51shot
25:51played it
25:53quite well
25:53in the end
25:54Brendan
25:54McCullum
25:55hit it
25:56too hard
25:56just
25:56timing
25:57that's a
26:03tremendous
26:03reverse sweep
26:04it's a
26:04difficult
26:05shot to
26:05play
26:06takes
26:06a lot
26:07of practice
26:07and he's
26:10hit it
26:10really
26:10well
26:11cheeky
26:17not well
26:18played
26:18it was
26:18leg
26:19sidish
26:19too
26:19so he
26:20had to
26:20fetch
26:21it
26:21a little
26:21bit
26:21time
26:25shot
26:26that's
26:32it
26:32so
26:33two
26:34reverse
26:34sweeps
26:35for
26:35boundaries
26:36complete
26:37what has
26:37been an
26:38absolutely
26:38emphatic
26:39victory
26:39for
26:40New Zealand
26:40their first
26:41in the
26:41competition
26:41Kenya
26:43a very
26:44disappointing
26:44performance
26:45with the
26:45bat
26:45all out
26:4669
26:46and from
26:48that moment
26:48you knew
26:49that they
26:50had absolutely
26:50no chance
26:51and in
26:52the field
26:52they looked
26:53like a
26:54beaten and
26:54demoralised
26:55side
26:5569
26:56Kenya
26:56New Zealand
26:5772
26:58without loss
26:58they win
26:59by 10
26:59wickets
27:00well if
27:02they'd
27:02been
27:02clinical
27:03with the
27:03ball
27:03New Zealand
27:04were lethal
27:04with the
27:05bat
27:059-4s
27:062-6s
27:07it was
27:07all over
27:07in just
27:0848 balls
27:09as Guptill
27:09and McCullum
27:10brushed aside
27:11the Canadian
27:12challenge
27:12quite how
27:13Jimmy
27:13Commandee
27:13managed to
27:14give four
27:14of his
27:14bowlers
27:15a go
27:15is
27:15well a
27:16tribute
27:17really
27:17to his
27:17ingenuity
27:18but basically
27:19this was a
27:20drubbing
27:20and one
27:20based on
27:21disciplined
27:22straight
27:22bowling
27:22that impressed
27:23the New Zealand
27:24captain
27:24Daniel
27:25Vittori
27:25I think
27:26that's the
27:27key
27:27over here
27:27I think
27:28if you
27:28give any
27:28players
27:29of note
27:29some
27:30width
27:30they're
27:30going to
27:30hurt you
27:30so that's
27:31been the
27:31message the
27:32whole time
27:32and we were
27:33fortunate that
27:33we stepped up
27:34today and did
27:34it we know
27:34there's some big
27:35games coming up
27:36but great to
27:36start the
27:37tournament like
27:37that
27:37got to be
27:38flexible in
27:39terms of
27:39maybe some
27:40bowling strategies
27:41opening with the
27:42spinner maybe not
27:42maybe the next
27:43game
27:43yeah I think
27:45obviously
27:45Cole Mills
27:45going down
27:46made that change
27:47inevitable
27:47but with him
27:50coming back into
27:50the squad there
27:51may be changes
27:51there but
27:52Nathan's done a
27:52great job
27:53anytime he takes
27:53a new ball
27:54so it gives us
27:55that flexibility
27:55and that's a
27:56great thing in a
27:56World Cup
27:57so what does the
27:59group A table
28:00look like after
28:01two games
28:02well New Zealand
28:02are on top
28:03they've got a
28:04better net run rate
28:05courtesy of that
28:06thumping of Kenya
28:07but Sri Lanka
28:08are going pretty
28:08nicely as well
28:09they've got two
28:10points and down
28:11at the bottom
28:11the two minnows
28:12as expected
28:13with no points
28:15and it's really
28:16a question that
28:16the next sort of
28:18few weeks about
28:18finding out who
28:19is going to be the
28:20other minnow in
28:21the group and
28:22sink to the
28:23bottom
28:23because the top
28:24four remember
28:24will go through
28:25to the quarter
28:26finals but it's
28:27New Zealand and
28:28Sri Lanka making
28:29the early running
28:30right well I've got
28:33Robert Croft and
28:34Michael Holdings
28:35still sitting here
28:36a bit shell
28:37shocked by a
28:38pretty inept
28:38performance by
28:39Kenya
28:39I suppose it
28:41will immediately
28:42the way that
28:43today has gone
28:44raise the question
28:45of should the
28:46minnows be in
28:47the World Cup
28:48and does it do
28:49anybody any good
28:50having them there
28:51the last time I
28:52made a comment
28:53about that
28:53I was ridiculed
28:54in the Caribbean
28:55when I said there
28:56were too many
28:56minnows involved
28:57in the World Cup
28:58there were four
28:58minnows then
28:59four again this
29:00time and as we
29:01have seen some
29:01of them don't
29:02belong there
29:02they're not good
29:03enough to be
29:03playing in the
29:04World Cup but I
29:04think at the
29:05same time what
29:06has happened is
29:06that they have
29:07now gotten rid
29:08of all of them
29:08I think that's
29:08going a bit too
29:09far
29:09because in the
29:11next World Cup
29:12in Australia
29:12it'll just be
29:13ten teams
29:14yeah and that's
29:16a little bit
29:17hard because you
29:17want to try and
29:18spread the message
29:19throughout the
29:19cricketing world
29:20and we're chatting
29:21here and it
29:22would be sensible
29:23to try and get
29:24the two top teams
29:25that qualify from
29:26the associate
29:27members that
29:28then get
29:28and then they
29:31go through but
29:31four teams is
29:33difficult because
29:34the quality and
29:35the standard of
29:36the games are
29:37going to drop as
29:37we've seen here
29:38today I mean
29:39does a day like
29:40today do the
29:41competition and
29:43the two bigger
29:43sides any good
29:44at all only that
29:46they've got miles
29:46in their legs from
29:47a New Zealand
29:48point of view
29:48perhaps a bit of
29:49confidence because
29:50at the last test
29:51ten one day
29:52internationals
29:53they've played
29:53they've only won
29:54two so from
29:55their point of
29:56view they'll try
29:57and grab anything
29:58they can but we
29:59have seen as well
30:00that you will
30:01there's generally
30:02a banana skin
30:03somewhere and a
30:05big team will slip
30:06up along the way
30:07but on this
30:09occasion you
30:10can't imagine
30:11those two teams
30:11Sri Lanka and
30:12New Zealand have
30:13got very much
30:14out of it
30:14right the other
30:15thing I wanted to
30:16talk about was
30:17the fact that
30:17New Zealand just
30:18pulled a little
30:18interesting tactical
30:20ploy didn't they
30:21they opened with
30:22an off spinner in
30:23Nathan McCallum
30:23what did you make
30:24of that shades of
30:25the 92 opening
30:26of with Dipak Patel
30:27but I think the
30:28reason for that was
30:29because Kyle Mills
30:29wasn't available I
30:30don't think they can
30:31afford to play against
30:32the top teams and
30:33open with the off
30:34spinner with McCallum
30:35I think they have
30:35got to open with
30:36the same one the
30:36brand new ball
30:37is the only ball
30:38that will swing
30:38down there Charles
30:39unless you are
30:39very good at
30:40reverse swing so
30:41they've got to
30:41give their opening
30:42bowlers an
30:42opportunity to
30:43swing that new
30:44ball and to get
30:44some early wickets
30:45I don't think
30:46tend to look at
30:47and say we're
30:47losing in the
30:48sleep watching
30:48McCallum bowling
30:49the first over
30:50and what does the
30:51off spinning fraternity
30:52have to say
30:52if I was Nathan
30:54McCallum I'd be
30:55hiding right behind
30:56everybody else and
30:57say you go with the
30:57new ball because he
30:59is going to line
31:00himself up he got
31:01smacked today yeah
31:02he did and you know
31:04there isn't much
31:05movement for the new
31:06ball in the
31:06subcontinent anyway so
31:07if you're a quick
31:08bowler when do you
31:09want it is when you've
31:10got the most chance of
31:11getting some movement
31:12and trying to nip some
31:13of the top order out
31:14you ain't going to do it
31:15with that type of spin
31:16ok time for a break
31:18when we come back
31:18we'll look ahead to
31:19some of the action
31:19coming up during the
31:20week ahead we're going
31:21to hear from two
31:21captains Ricky Ponting
31:22of Australia and
31:23William Porterfield of
31:24Ireland and we'll also
31:25get the view from the
31:26England camp in the
31:27guise of Paul
31:28Collingwood if you can
31:29come out to India
31:31Bangladesh Sri Lanka
31:32and win a World Cup
31:33I don't think you can
31:34get any set of
31:35conditions that will
31:36test you as much as
31:37what you'll get out
31:38here so this is a
31:39huge challenge for us
31:40we're really up for it
31:41and very excited for the
31:42games and let me tell
31:44you the boys are pretty
31:45confident about things
31:46but not over confident
