01:03Not much?
01:04It was my first language,
01:06but when we immigrated to Canada,
01:08I kind of started to lose it a little bit.
01:10But I can still understand.
01:12Like, maraming salamat.
01:13Kumusta?
01:14Kamusta?
01:15Mahal kita?
01:16Or,
01:16what else is there?
01:20Masarap ang ulam.
01:21Masarap ang ulam.
01:23Masarap ang sinigang.
01:25Yeah, always food-related.
01:26But first, Manny,
01:28I'd like to say thank you
01:30for all that you are
01:32and all that you do
01:33for this country.
01:35Thank you for making all of us proud.
01:37You're doing very well in Hollywood.
01:40And,
01:40but first,
01:42how,
01:42I know you left when you were three years old.
01:44Mm-hmm.
01:45Did you ever come back
01:46between that time and now?
01:49I did.
01:51I mean,
01:51my whole dad's side of the family
01:53is still here,
01:54so whenever,
01:56whenever there were maybe birthdays
01:59or if people passed away,
02:00we would come back
02:01or,
02:02the last time we were here
02:03was two Christmases ago.
02:06Oh.
02:06I was able to bring my parents
02:08and also my wife's parents
02:10to the Philippines
02:12and,
02:12and just explore and,
02:14because they,
02:15they always usually come back
02:16to see family,
02:17but I wanted to show them
02:18other parts of the Philippines as well.
02:21Will there be a reunion this time?
02:23Um,
02:23not,
02:25not this time.
02:26Not much time.
02:27Yeah,
02:27not much time,
02:28but hopefully,
02:28maybe next year.
02:30Yes.
02:31Okay.
02:31Um,
02:32everyone wants to know
02:33how,
02:34what is it like
02:36to be
02:37a Hollywood actor?
02:39Oh,
02:40uh,
02:41a lot of rejection.
02:43A lot of rejection.
02:45Yeah,
02:45a lot of rejection.
02:47Manu,
02:48what does it mean,
02:48which meant that you had to go for auditions,
02:50for,
02:50for readings,
02:51and you got a lot of no?
02:54Yeah,
02:55I mean,
02:55it's,
02:55it's a pretty tough industry,
02:57you know,
02:57especially as a person of color,
02:59um,
02:59whether you're,
03:00uh,
03:01Asian or Filipino in general,
03:03it's,
03:03it can be pretty tough,
03:04but,
03:05um,
03:05yeah,
03:06there's a lot of rejection
03:07in auditions
03:08and casting choices
03:09and projects,
03:10and,
03:11uh,
03:12you just have to keep on going.
03:13Uh,
03:14I think,
03:14uh,
03:14I built a lot of work ethic
03:16from my parents
03:17because of their,
03:18their work ethic,
03:18and I just,
03:20you know,
03:20continue to strive on.
03:21But you've done pretty well,
03:23and let me ask you,
03:24as a fan of,
03:25of movie stars,
03:27you've worked with Tom Cruise,
03:29you've worked with,
03:30uh,
03:30Nicole Kidman,
03:31and our very own
03:32Dolly Deleone and I,
03:33Perfect Strangers,
03:34yeah,
03:34yeah,
03:34yeah,
03:35Tom Ford,
03:36um,
03:37Top Gun,
03:38yeah,
03:38yeah,
03:38yeah,
03:38Maverick,
03:39yeah,
03:39you did Star Wars,
03:41The Acolyte,
03:42you did my favorite,
03:44The Good Place.
03:44Yeah,
03:45The Good Place,
03:45yes.
03:46Even the television series,
03:48uh,
03:48The Good Doctor,
03:49I've,
03:50I've,
03:50I've seen a lot.
03:51So,
03:51how is it?
03:53And Jamie Lee Curtis,
03:54of course,
03:55and Lindsay Lohan
03:56in Freakier Friday.
03:58Yeah,
03:58I mean,
03:59How do you survive them?
04:00It's,
04:01uh,
04:02I,
04:03I mean,
04:03I come from,
04:04uh,
04:04a dance background.
04:06So,
04:06um,
04:07you know,
04:08without dance,
04:08I wouldn't have been able to,
04:10to act.
04:11I think that's the beauty of,
04:12you know,
04:13Filipinos,
04:13we love to perform.
04:15So,
04:15we love to sing,
04:15we love to dance,
04:16we love to act.
04:18Um,
04:18we love to do all these things,
04:20and be in front of the camera,
04:21and I think,
04:22seeing that within my culture,
04:24I was like,
04:24why not?
04:25Why not me,
04:26right?
04:26So,
04:26I,
04:26I gave it a try,
04:27and,
04:27um,
04:28and here we are.
04:29But it's,
04:29it is a lot of work.
04:30Like,
04:31it's a lot of preparation.
04:32Um,
04:33a lot of being prepared for your lines,
04:36or your scenes in general.
04:37Did you always want to be an actor?
04:40No,
04:41not really.
04:41I,
04:42uh,
04:43it was,
04:43my family,
04:45you know,
04:45they're mainly,
04:46um,
04:47in education.
04:48You know,
04:49I was,
04:50I was really the first one kind of in the arts,
04:52so I,
04:52I had a lot of weird looks from,
04:55you know,
04:56some titos and titas,
04:58and,
04:58um,
04:58my lolas and lolas,
04:59but,
05:00uh,
05:01they were always very supportive.
05:03Um,
05:03and,
05:04uh,
05:05they let me,
05:06you know,
05:06be free,
05:07and,
05:07and,
05:07and explore dance,
05:09and,
05:09and the arts.
05:11Um,
05:11and then it wasn't until much later,
05:13that I found love for anything.
05:13Did you train?
05:15I did.
05:16To be an actor?
05:16Yeah,
05:17yeah.
05:17Uh,
05:18I,
05:18I,
05:18I,
05:19after I graduated from engineering,
05:21it was full on acting.
05:23So,
05:23taking classes,
05:25um,
05:26auditioning,
05:28uh,
05:28for,
05:29for anything and everything that I could get,
05:30whether it be plays,
05:31or films and TV shows,
05:33anything like that.
05:34We've,
05:34we've,
05:34we've seen a lot of movies,
05:36we've heard a lot of stories.
05:37It's not easy to get into Hollywood.
05:40And,
05:40you started by saying,
05:41you know,
05:42I,
05:42I got a lot of rejection.
05:44Yeah,
05:44yeah.
05:44Where'd you get that
05:45courage,
05:47that tenacity?
05:49Um,
05:50well,
05:50my mom would always say,
05:52ang tigas ng ulo naman yung batang to.
05:55And I think it's just the stubbornness.
05:57Okay.
05:57Yeah,
05:58yeah.
05:58Uh,
05:59someone who'll never give up.
06:01Yeah.
06:01ang tigas ng ulo ng anak ko.
06:03Yes,
06:04yes,
06:04yeah,
06:04yeah,
06:04exactly.
06:05Okay.
06:06It's,
06:06I think it's a part of that,
06:07but it's also,
06:09um,
06:10again,
06:11work ethic,
06:12and,
06:12and also the support from,
06:14from my parents.
06:14How does it feel to work with somebody like Nicole Kidman?
06:20It's intimidating.
06:21Intimidating?
06:22Yeah,
06:22yeah,
06:22at first.
06:23Nakakatakot.
06:24Uh,
06:24yeah,
06:24uh,
06:25nakakatakot.
06:26Yes,
06:27for sure.
06:28Because she's,
06:29you know,
06:29a movie star,
06:30she's a legend.
06:31Larger than life.
06:32Larger than life.
06:33Um,
06:34but,
06:35uh,
06:37you know,
06:37she's so nice,
06:39um,
06:40and,
06:41generous,
06:43uh,
06:43and so talented.
06:45Like,
06:45you,
06:46you have to step up.
06:47Yeah,
06:48yeah,
06:48absolutely.
06:49Um,
06:49what's the word for kind in Tagalog?
06:51Sobrang...
06:52Mabait?
06:53Mabait,
06:53yeah.
06:53Oh,
06:54okay.
06:55What about Tom Cruise?
06:56Tom Cruise?
06:57Um,
06:57yeah,
06:58I mean,
06:58they might be doing a Top Gun 3,
07:00if anything,
07:01but,
07:01I mean,
07:02just getting to work with Tom was,
07:04was unbelievable.
07:07Okay.
07:07Oh,
07:07I had also,
07:09I think when my mom was pregnant with me,
07:12she was in the hospital,
07:13and she was watching Tom Cruise,
07:15and I think in her head she was telling me,
07:18I would hope one day that maybe Manny could be like Tom Cruise.
07:21Oh,
07:21so your mom wanted you to be an actor?
07:23Maybe in the back of her head,
07:25but I remember her telling me that,
07:27when I told her I booked,

07:29Top Gun.

12:22Um,
12:23Uh,
12:24The Pink Power Ranger.
12:26Yes or no?
12:26Performed in a family gathering?
12:28Yes.
12:29Yes or no?
12:29Took home food from a party?
12:31Absolutely, yes.
12:32Yes or no?
12:33Ate spaghetti with rice?
12:34Yes.
12:35Yes or no?
12:35Faked your age?
12:36No.
12:37Lights on or lights off?
12:38Lights off.
12:39Happiness or chocolate?
12:40Happiness.
12:40Best time for happiness?
12:42Always.
12:43Complete this.
12:44I am Manny Jacinto
12:45and I am
12:46proud to be Filipino.
12:48Oh.
12:52Given a chance
12:54to do a movie
12:55in this country,
12:57would you say yes?
12:58And
12:59can you name me
13:01a Filipino actor
13:03who you admire?
13:05The answer?
13:06When we come back,
13:06dito lamang po
13:07sa Fast Talk
13:08with Boy Abunda.
13:14We're back
13:15with the show.
13:16Kasama pa rin po natin
13:17sa Manny Jacinto
13:17of Freakier Friday.
13:19Halimbawa lamang,
13:21Manny,
13:21ikay,
13:21uh,
13:22nabigyan ng offer
13:23to do a film
13:24dito sa Pilipinas ngayon.
13:26Yes.
13:26Would you consider?
13:28Yeah,
13:28I think the actual goal
13:30is
13:31I'm trying to
13:32write and create stories
13:34that could hopefully
13:34actually film
13:35in the Philippines as well.
13:37So yeah,
13:37both,
13:38whether to act here
13:39or to create stories
13:41to act here.
13:42Top of mind,
13:42what kind of a story
13:43would you do?
13:44Ooh,
13:45uh,
13:47I have a story
13:50in mind
13:51and it revolves
13:53around
13:54sabong.
13:56Interesting.
13:57Yeah, yeah.
13:57It's a
13:58family story.
14:01I can't say
14:02too much about it
14:03because we're still,
14:04it's still in the works,
14:06but it's,
14:07yeah,
14:07something along those lines.
14:09Okay,
14:10I wanted to tell you
14:12that
14:12it has been
14:14very controversial
14:15in the last few months.
14:16Yeah.
14:17You've heard about it.
14:18We won't see any of it.
14:19No, no, no.
14:19But I think
14:20what you're trying to say
14:21is the cultural
14:21side of sabong.
14:24That would really
14:25be interesting
14:25because that's
14:27deeply ingrained
14:28in the Filipino culture.
14:31Yeah.
14:31I'm wondering
14:31because you came from theater
14:33and then you're doing films now,
14:35ano'ng proseso mo
14:36as an actor?
14:37Oh, wow.
14:38Um,
14:39it's very analytical
14:40first.
14:41Okay.
14:42So I will
14:44study the script,
14:46the scene.
14:47I do all these notes,
14:50like
14:50relationship,
14:52all these like
14:53acting.
14:53You make a backstory.
14:54Yes, yes.
14:55I make a backstory
14:56and figure out
14:58who this is
14:59on the page.
15:01And then I,
15:03once I figure
15:04all that out,
15:05I put it on its feet
15:07and I figure out
15:08how the person moves,
15:10how he sounds
15:12and also how he would
15:14interact with
15:15the other characters.
15:16And the biggest challenge
15:17is to make it look
15:19natural.
15:20Yeah,
15:20and authentic.
15:21And authentic
15:21and spontaneous.
15:23Yeah, yeah.
15:24Manny,
15:24I'm not going to make you dance
15:25but I want to dance.
15:26Okay.
15:26If you were to coach me
15:28and if I were an actor,
15:29we do this on Fast Talk.
15:30Yeah, yeah, yeah.
15:30If you were to coach,
15:31just tell me,
15:32if I were to prepare
15:33for a scene
15:33and I'm a very good dancer.
15:35I would have no doubt.
15:38Let's go.
15:39Let's go.
15:39You're very good dancer.
15:41But if I were to prepare
15:42for a role,
15:43what would you
15:44actually tell me?
15:46First,
15:47first,
15:48is the face.
15:49The face.
15:50To be confident.
15:52Confident.
15:52Whatever you do.
15:53So you can do anything.
15:55You can move your body
15:56anyway as long
15:57as you look confident.
15:58Yeah,
15:58there you go.
16:00Amazing.
16:01Okay.
16:02Yeah.
16:02So confident.
16:03Confident.
16:04Just to relax.
16:05Relax.
16:05But the face
16:06has to be confident.
16:07Yes.
16:07And then
16:08the biggest thing
16:08that men forget
16:10is the hips.
16:12What do I do
16:13with my hips?
16:14To move them
16:15because a lot of that,
16:16there you go.
16:17Oh.
16:18A lot of the times
16:18men
16:19are always in the arms
16:21and stuff.
16:23But I have to move
16:24my hips.
16:25I'm starting to relax.
16:26Yeah,
16:27there you go.
16:27Okay,
16:28and?
16:29And that's it.
16:30And then you just
16:30listen to the music.
16:32Oh,
16:33this is freaking me out.
16:34And then that's it.
16:35No, no,
16:36I'm just joking.
16:37Okay,
16:37and then
16:38I go into a ball.
16:40Yeah.
16:41Now,
16:45realize,
16:47I mean,
16:47my friends,
16:48that one of the best
16:49backgrounds actually
16:50in acting is dance
16:51because you have
16:52that natural balance.
16:54I will remember
16:55this moment
16:56that before he got
16:58his first best actor
17:00from the academy,
17:02I had a chance
17:03to talk to Manish
17:03Hasito.
17:05If you were given
17:05a chance to work
17:06with a Filipino actor,
17:07who would this be?
17:09Oh,
17:09so many.
17:11Lea Salonga.
17:13Do you know
17:14Lea personally?
17:15No,
17:15I mean,
17:16we've maybe talked
17:17on social media,
17:18possibly.
17:19No,
17:20like friends of friends,
17:21but we haven't gotten
17:22to really speak
17:24to one another
17:24face to face.
17:26She's very supportive
17:27and she likes
17:29to engage
17:29with other Filipino
17:31artists.
17:32Yes.
17:32I heard her.
17:33She's a good friend
17:34and if you're watching Lea,
17:36we were hoping
17:38that you guys
17:38can work together.
17:40Yeah,
17:40absolutely.
17:42I mean,
17:42if he was still alive,
17:43Dolphy would have been
17:45incredible.
17:47I think,
17:48you know,
17:48he was a pretty
17:49big part of my childhood
17:51watching those
17:52Filipino movies
17:53and I think
17:54being in the comedy space
17:57helped a lot.
17:58The good plays,
17:59you were so funny
18:00without trying to.
18:02I think that's
18:02great talent.
18:04That's really great talent
18:05and I've watched
18:07a lot of your materials
18:08and you're the kind
18:09of actor who can do
18:09anything.
18:11Wow.
18:11Thanks,
18:11Ito Boy.
18:12Yeah,
18:13I want to do it all.
18:16I want to be able
18:16to represent
18:17on-screen Filipino faces
18:19and characters
18:20that we haven't seen
18:21before.
18:22And you can.
18:23You can do anything.
18:25You can do anything
18:26with that immense talent
18:28and I use that word
18:30in the beginning
18:30with that tenacity,
18:33that healthy ambition.
18:35Yeah.
18:35And you just make us
18:36so proud
18:36and the least
18:38that we can do
18:39is support
18:41Freakier Friday.
18:43Yeah.
18:43Please again,
18:44invite the whole country.
