Kerry Stubbings and her husband had embarked on a grey nomad adventure and were in Perth when she slipped out of a caravan, landing directly on her shoulder. The 66-year-old was sent to Townsville's Mater Hospital and was told she would need a total reverse shoulder replacement after tearing most of her tendons.

00:00I had a fall on Christmas Eve actually. I landed, when I hit the ground, I landed
00:05right on top of my shoulder. Eventually I knew I had to get it checked and do
00:10something with it and so I went to see Dr. Mills. He told me that it would be a
00:15total reverse shoulder replacement and then a couple of weeks later he rang me
00:21to say that the robot could do it and and that was a bit exciting actually.
00:27And the fact that the benefits of having it done were that it was a better
00:32recovery, less invasive, that was a great idea and the fact that it was going to
00:38be an innovation really. Everything went very well, everything went according to
00:43plan, the robot function worked remarkably well and I think it's going to be a very
00:49good outcome. So the big benefit is accuracy, so if you think of the the robot
00:55as being an extra arm for the surgeon that helps guide the surgeon's arm to
01:01produce cuts and do things that we need to in an accurate way. It's akin to ten pin
01:07bowling with the bumper bars up if you like.
