Woman seriously injured in Townsville dog attack

A woman is seriously injured and has been rushed to hospital in a critical condition after a dog attack in Townsville suburb of Garbutt.

00:00What we know so far is, as you said, a woman's been critically injured.

00:05We understand she's lost an arm in an attack at this suburban house pretty much just behind

00:10me about 7 o'clock this morning.

00:14Neighbours have told us they heard screaming and were told to stay inside.

00:18They saw ambulances and they say they saw a woman on the ground who was obviously very

00:23seriously injured.

00:25We understand, and neighbours have said, it was a dog at the actual property, so it belonged

00:29there.

00:30We were told it was some sort of either a Staffordshire cross or a pit bull.

00:35And neighbours have also said they've long had concerns about this very dog being a dangerous

00:41animal.

00:42We also know that police have shot dead the animal about 7 o'clock this morning and have

00:47been investigating.

00:48Well, losing an arm is a very serious injury.

00:58We've seen them coming in and out of the property.

01:01Obviously we understand the investigation has happened because they had to use a firearm

01:07We understand that the woman's been taken to Townsville University Hospital where she's

01:12still in a very, very serious condition.

01:16People have really expressed a lot of shock and a lot of alarm at what has happened.
