00:01A slap over a suspected chicken theft has landed a retired soldier a 1,000 ringgit fine.
00:0863-year-old Muhammad Abdullah was fined by the Ayah Kero Magistrates Court on Wednesday
00:13after pleading guilty to slapping a 13-year-old boy he suspected of stealing a chicken.
00:18The incident took place at about 5.15pm on August 11th along Jalan TM35 in Taman Tanjung Minyak
00:27in the Melaka Tengah district.
00:28According to the prosecution, the teenager was chasing a chicken along the roadside
00:33when Muhammad confronted him and accused him of theft.
00:36Despite the boy's denial, he slapped the teen twice on the right cheek.
00:41The boy was later treated at a clinic for a soft tissue injury to his cheek before lodging a police
00:46report.
00:47Muhammad was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code,
00:50an offence that carries a maximum penalty of one year's jail, a 2,000 ringgit fine, or both.
00:56In mitigation, Counsel J.C. Go from the National Legal Aid Foundation
01:01appealed for a light fine, noting that Muhammad relies solely on a 1,500 ringgit monthly pension
