00:00The final farewell for Dhirup Timal began with a funeral service at the NCIC Diwali Nagar that reflected his life in public service as an independent senator and as president of the NCIC, the National Council of Indian Culture.
00:16Among those who attended the service were President Christine Kangaloo, as well as members of the government and the opposition in both houses of parliament, former MPs and religious leaders.
00:29Senator Timal's daughters, Kajal and Priya Timal, shared insight into their father's life beyond his public service, such as him being a fan of Western music, with the Eagles and Tina Turner being two of his favorites, as well as his support for Westernese cricket.
00:44It's no secret that Papa was a great supporter of the arts, but few would know that he himself was very much a creative soul and a poet as well.
01:01When I was at university, I remember discovering an old notebook of his filled with poems that he had written when he was younger.
01:12Despite being committed and occupied with social service, he was tremendously dedicated to our family.
01:19Those at his funeral heard that Senator Timaloo was not only well-read in religion and philosophy, but was also a fan of authors V.S. Naipaul and Tom Clancy.
01:37I believe that the majority of my memories of my father at home were of him sitting and reading.
01:45When he was not sitting and reading, he would be watching movies.
01:49Many would be surprised to know that he was an avid fan of Westerns and blockbuster hits.
01:55There was acknowledgement of the loss that was felt beyond Senator Timaloo's family.
02:00Today, we have heard many meaningful tributes to our father, as he lived a remarkable life of community service and touched the lives of so many.
02:12Undoubtedly, such achievements are a worthwhile measure of a life.
02:17All of our esteemed speakers today have shared with us such special memories of our father's great actions.
02:25Among the officials who paid tribute to Senator Timaloo was Senate President Wade Mark.
02:30We will remember him not only as a senator or engineer, but as a bridge builder between tradition and modernity,
02:49between parliament and people, and between service and spirit.
02:57Leader of opposition business in the Senate, Dr. Amory Brown, recalled that Senator Timaloo was always cool and always calm in the Senate chamber.
03:06And when I did serve as leader of government business and then leader of opposition business,
03:12I knew fully well and told many others that Senator Timaloo would always be dependable,
03:21not to agree with every clause and bill and proposal, because he didn't.
03:27He was always dependable to help maintain the dignity of the parliament of Trinidad and Tobago.
03:39The first vice president of the NCIC, Surajdero Mangaroo, said Senator Timaloo's passing was a profound loss,
03:47not only to his family, but to the entire nation and the global community he served with distinction.
03:52As the president of the National Council of Indian Culture, he championed the preservation and celebration of our rich heritage.
04:01He believed that understanding our roots was essential to building a harmonious and progressive society.
04:08Tribute was also paid to Senator Timaloo by Siwa TT.
04:12Following the funeral service at the Diwali Nagaroo was the cremation at the Karini cremation site,
04:17marking the end of the farewell to Independent Senator Timaloo.
