06 August - National weather forecast presented by Clare Nasir.
Transcript
00:00Hello there and a very good morning to you on this Wednesday. After the stormy weather on Monday, blustery winds yesterday. Today is a quieter day, particularly for more northern and western areas, with high pressure still sitting across more southern parts of the country.
00:15However, through Wednesday night, another band of rain moves in. The winds will pick up across Scotland and Northern Ireland, but this system here clearing quite quickly down towards northern England, Wales and the west country through Thursday. Showery bursts of rain then drier across eastern counties through Thursday, with some showers to follow across the northwest.
00:34For the time being, if you are stepping out, still some wet weather across Caithness as well as Orkney, pushing up towards Shetland through the day. Quite a breeze here, but a quieter start and a cooler one for much of Scotland and Northern Ireland.
00:48And that cool weather extends further south as well. In the countryside, temperatures have dipped down to single figures. So a chilly morning for some, but sadly dry for most, with sunny spells.
00:59So through the morning, we watch as this area of showery rain clears mainland Scotland. So we'll see a drying up process here. At the same time, blue sky and sunshine through the first part of the day.
01:13Notice the sunshine becomes a little more hazy through lunchtime across Northern Ireland and Western Scotland. And the cloud could build elsewhere, but it's a mostly dry afternoon, a chance of a light shower across Western Scotland later.
01:25And that cloud certainly thickening through evening time across Northern Ireland. Here are your temperatures there and up a degree or so on yesterday. 21 across the north, 23 to 24 further south and southeast.
01:38Now through this evening and overnight, yet again, we'll see dry skies across the bulk of England and Wales and eastern Scotland for a time.
01:46But notice this area of cloud and rain pushes in. You could see some heavier pulses through into the early hours of Thursday morning as the winds pick up on the back edge of this cold front.
01:56This rain sinks down towards Northern England as well as the north and the west of Wales into the early hours of Thursday morning. Expect some showery bursts also across the west country.
02:05Now through the morning, showers will follow across more northern and western areas. And here we'll see a brisk breeze. Breezy, if not windy, across Irish seacoast towards Pennine districts as well through the first part of Thursday.
02:18And some showery rain continues towards the southwest. Through the morning, east Midlands, southeastwards will have a fine start today with some sunshine coming through.
02:28The cloud could thicken through the morning into the afternoon here as that rain tends to stall and weaken as we head through to the latter part of Thursday.
02:38And highest temperatures will be across the southeast, temperatures into the mid-20s very comfortably.
02:43But a fresh end to the day across more northern and western areas, 17 or 18 degrees Celsius and with some sunshine.
02:50Places such as Aberdeenshire and Northumberland coming in around 20 or 21.
02:54So that's the picture on Thursday. Through Friday, yet again, high pressure casts an influence across most of the country.
03:03But this weather front here will bring the chance of some showery rain north of the central belt.
03:07So the central belt will be breezy, but it will be fine with some sunshine and sunshine elsewhere as temperatures arrive around 20 to 26 degrees Celsius.
03:16Have a lovely day and I'll see you again soon.
