A teenage girl is dead and another has been arrested after a stabbing west of Newcastle. The victim was found in a critical condition with stab wounds to her torso on Euston Close in Edgeworth and died later in hospital.

00:00Police are still investigating as to how this situation unfolded here in a suburban street

00:08just west of Newcastle's CBD last night.

00:11It was around 10pm when emergency service crews were called here to reports of a stabbing.

00:17They found a teenage girl in a critical condition with stab wounds to her torso.

00:22She was then taken to hospital, but she died a short time later.

00:26We've just been speaking with some residents in the street here this morning,

00:30some that have lived here for more than 20 years.

00:32They say it's usually a quiet street and they've never seen something like this unfold before.

00:38Hardly seen them or spoke to them, so I didn't know what the situation was down there

00:44and I had no idea that there was any children there because I'd never seen them in the street.

00:50I think it's a very sad situation, especially people as young as that to, you know, to be violent like that.
