00:00Hello, good morning.
00:02Storm Floris was an exceptionally strong summer storm, bringing widespread disruption across
00:07northern parts of the UK, in particular much of Scotland, where some stations broke their
00:14August wind gust record.
00:17But Floris is now heading into Scandinavia.
00:19The winds will slowly moderate still the potential for 50 to 70 mile per hour wind gusts for
00:24Shetland and Orkney first thing, along with spells of rain.
00:27Those spells of rain turning to showers, the winds gradually easing across the whole of
00:32the UK as the day continues.
00:35But it will stay blustery wherever you are, with frequent showers coming in.
00:39Initially the heaviest downpours will be in the north-west, and then later in the north-east
00:43a few rumbles of thunder.
00:45In between the showers, some bright spells, very few showers in the south, where there
00:48will be plenty of sunshine into the afternoon, a bit of a breeze, but nothing compared to
00:53northern parts of the UK.
00:55Certainly what we've seen over the last 24 hours.
00:58So feeling warm enough in the south, but cool where we've got the breeze further north.
01:02And we'll continue to see showery rain across the far north of Scotland as we go into Tuesday
01:07night.
01:08But elsewhere it's dry, with lighter winds, clear spells and a fresh night to come.
01:12Temperatures in some places dipping into these single figures.
01:15But we start off Wednesday with plenty of sunshine.
01:18And Wednesday looks like the finest day of the week for many places.
01:21We've got this ridge of high pressure moving in, a midweek interlude between areas of low
01:26pressure, plenty of sunshine during the morning, thicker cloud coming along for the afternoon
01:30into western parts, a few spots of rain for Northern Ireland late on.
01:34But otherwise it's a dry and bright day for many, and with light winds feeling pleasant in
01:39the August sunshine with 22-23 Celsius expected.
01:42But you can see, waiting in the wings, another area of rainfall.
01:47Now this is associated with the next area of low pressure.
01:51Not as powerful a system as storm florists, but still likely on Thursday to bring some very
01:56strong winds to the northwest, especially northwestern Scotland with the risk of 50 or even 60 mile
02:01per hour wind gusts.
02:02So yeah, nowhere near as bad as florists, but another wind spell likely as we end the week.
