00:00Amber weather warnings are in full effect as Storm Florist slams into the UK, bringing some destructive winds.
00:07So Storm Florist is unleashing some of the strongest August winds in recent years,
00:12with gusts up to 90 miles per hour possible for exposed Scottish coasts.
00:16An amber weather warning is in full effect across large parts of Scotland.
00:20It's now been extended until 11pm, whilst a yellow weather warning is in place for Northern Ireland, Northern England and Wales.
00:26So Storm Florist is the sixth named storm of the 24-25 season.
00:31It's actually the first one we've had since January, so it has been a while.
00:35And summer storms like this are particularly unusual, with only around five previously recorded August storms on record.
00:43These storms though can be particularly damaging.
00:46So the trees are in full leaf, there's garden furniture around,
00:50and it's also the school holidays meaning more people and more possible disruption.
00:53Major rail routes have already been impacted, and flights to parts of Scotland have been cancelled.
01:00Storm Florist will start to clear away overnight, but destructive winds will continue throughout Tuesday,
01:05bringing another windy day.
