Martin Dempster on Farmfoods Scottish Challenge winner
Transcript
00:00Hello it's Martin Dempster the Scotsman Golf Correspondent here coming to you from Schloss
00:06Roxburgh near Kelso at the conclusion of the Farm Foods Scottish Challenge supported by
00:14the R&A. I'm delighted to say we had a home winner in Perth, Daniel Young. He took a four
00:22shot lead into the final round, got off to the worst possible start when taking a double
00:27bogey six at the opening hole. His lead was down to one at the turn, he got it back to
00:33three in front after 12 holes. Then Frenchman, Julien Ken, he birdied both the 15th and 16th
00:42to get within one. The Frenchman also had a great birdie chance at 17, then another one
00:49at 18. He didn't take any of them and that meant that Young was the winner. The fourth
00:56player, Scott, to win this event and he did so after finishing third then second in his
01:04last two events. So certainly trending in the right direction and along with fellow Scott
01:10David Law, a former winner of this event himself, Young is now on course to step up to the DP
01:18World Tour next season. The top 20 in the Road to Marlorka rankings at the end of the season,
01:24they'll secure cards with Law, who won in the check recently, sitting fourth and Young in
01:32sixth position. They both now turn their attention to the DP World Tour. They're playing in the
01:38Nexo Championship which takes place at Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeen next week.
01:45It's really a free shot for both of them. They'll be excited about that and they'll be joining the
01:50likes of Ewan Ferguson, Conor Syme, Callum Hill and Grant Forrest in Flying the Saltire in that event,
01:59as well as Martin Laird, PGA Tour player. He's teeing up on Scottish soil for the first time since 2018.
