Martin Dempster - Day 2 of Betfred British Masters
Transcript
00:00Hello, it's Martin Dempster, the Scotsman Golf Correspondent here, coming to you from a rather chilly Belfry in the Midlands at the end of the second round in the Betfed British Masters, hosted by Sir Nick Faldo.
00:16The leader at the halfway stage is German Marcel Seam, one of the game's colourful characters. He is on nine under par and leads by a shot in the $3.5 million event, which marks the start of the DP World Tour's back nine swing.
00:38The player leading the chase is Matt Fitzpatrick, who won this event in 2015 at Woburn. Fitzpatrick is playing here after missing out on the Tour Championship in America.
00:52He's here to try and rubber stamp his claim for a Ryder Cup spot, and the Englishman has produced two polished rounds so far to sit handily placed heading into the weekend.
01:07As is Matt Wallace, who currently sits the 11th in the Ryder Cup points table, one spot above Fitzpatrick. He's determined to try and give Luke Donald, the European captain, a headache when he sits down to finalise his team for Bethpage Black in September.
01:30Also, in the top 20 at the halfway stage is the day in Rasmus Hojard. He needs to finish in a two-way tie for 29th or better to jump into an automatic spot for the Ryder Cup.
01:48And if he does that, he would jump above Shane Lowry.
01:52Two Scots are through to the weekend, both sitting on three under par.
01:58Ewan Ferguson was delighted to end a run of four straight cuts on the DP World Tour, and he's joined in the weekend action here by Cameron Adam, the only amateur in the field.
02:11The Royal Burgess player, who was picked for the Walker Cup earlier this week, really showed some fantastic short game skills in the second round, including a chip-in for a par at the iconic 10th hole,
02:29and then made a brilliant up-and-down from through the back of the 18th green.
