00:00Because the Mets did make some moves, which included fortifying their bullpen,
00:03which a lot of good baseball teams did,
00:04but also welcoming Cedric Mullins to Queens here to sort of beef up that outfield.
00:08Yesterday, they put on a show there.
00:10Scored a lot of runs from New York Metropolitans back in first place
00:12over the Philadelphia Phillies, Mullins to Queens.
00:16Yeah, good spot for him to land overall again,
00:18and good moves by the Orioles to just move players between O'Hearn,
00:22Lariano, and now Mullins moving the mounts.
00:26This is what the Mets needed.
00:26They needed a little bit more in their lineup.
00:28The bottom portion of the lineup really wasn't great overall.
00:31And then, of course, bringing in the bullpen help really sets them up
00:35for just obviously a two-team race as they have been all season with the Phillies.
00:39And I think it really, really comes down to winning the division for either of these teams.
00:43You do not want to play in that extra wildcard game
00:45and theoretically have to go through the Padres, the Cubs, the Brewers,
00:49two of those three teams just to get to the NLCS to assume to play the Dodgers.
00:54Like, you do not want to have that extra series under your belt.
00:56By the way, it is so smart now to beef up that bullpen because, you know,
00:59talking about it a few times this week on the early line, Tom was like,
01:02you know what, we even see bullpen starts in the World Series now.
01:05Like, that's the new fashion.
01:06You can't have enough arms coming out in high-leverage situations to handle quality batters.
01:10The Mets pick up the players.
01:12Obviously, the Philadelphia Phillies, the Padres.
01:13We'll talk about a few more coming up.
01:14But one of the interesting surprises was they always say, Tom, you can never go home.
01:18Oh, yeah, you can.
01:18Man, Carlos Correa takes the money, goes with the Twins, now returns back to the Astros.
01:23The Twins picking up a good chunk of that contract.
01:26A lot of injuries here for the Astros.
01:28Hopefully, Carlos Correa can step right in and fill that third base void that Isak Paredes now down for the season.
01:35Yeah, good move, again, all around.
01:38He wanted to leave.
01:39The Twins were willing to move him.
01:40They were willing to eat the contract.
01:42They were willing to get players back.
01:43He wants to go there, but also, credit to him, he's willing to change positions, go to third base.
01:49Now, Jeremy Pena did leave yesterday's game early, if I remember correctly.
01:52He's actually not in there today.
01:54The Astros' starting lineup, which starts in about an hour and 20 minutes.
01:57So, good on him to move positions.
01:59He knows that he has a chance to win again in his, let's call it his home team.
02:03That's his team.
02:04He will always be a Houston Astro.
02:06He's never going to be a Minnesota Twins.
02:08So, good on him.
02:09Astros made the right move.
02:10And they had so many injuries that they had to address certain things.
02:13And they did between him and getting Sanchez as well.
02:17Yep, absolutely.
02:18Need more bats in that lineup.
02:19Maybe Alvarez comes back, but I know he had a few setbacks already.
02:22That team is a really good team and used to making deep postseason runs.
02:25Correa coming back, no surprise to making deep runs there with the Astros.
02:28We'll see if they do it this year.
02:29We talked about the Padres on the back end of that bullpen.
02:31Maybe the best in Major League Baseball, but added a couple more bats at the deadline,
02:34which I wanted to see.
02:35There's a lot of talk time, too.
02:37They wanted Steven Kwan for the Guardians.
02:38They settled on a couple other bats, and I can't complain.
02:40If that one through nine is healthy, it looks really good all the way through.
02:44It looks really good.
02:46Kwan would have been an awesome addition at the top of the lineup.
02:49Kwan and Louisa Rice, those guys always get on base.
02:53And then you follow them up with Tatis and Machado, and you throw in Jackson Merrill,
02:59Cronenworth, whatever it might be.
03:01That would be a very well-rounded lineup.
03:02I was a little bit more interested in the fact that they were potentially shopping
03:05Dylan Cease, which really did make sense to me to have a front-line starter.
03:08I know he certainly has his issues with the walks and the home runs.
03:10We know that.
03:11But, again, having a pitch that can give you seven or eight strikeouts over six innings
03:14in the postseason is something that you always want.
03:16It's also good to see Kwan stay in Cleveland.
03:18I know he wanted to stay there.
03:19At least that's what the report said.
03:21But Phillies, excuse me, not the Phillies, the Padres making good moves overall to
03:25bolster their lineup with the additions that they got.
03:27And, of course, that bullpen still looks fantastic.
03:29We'll see you next time.
