Dry and cloudy for most, with a few isolated showers in places. Temperatures are slightly lower compared with recent days. - This is the Met Office UK weather forecast for the afternoon of 01/08/2025. Bringing you today’s forecast is Alex Burkill.

00:00We have some pretty unsettled weather to come through the next few days.

00:04On Sunday, a heavy band of rain, and then on Monday, Storm Floris is going to hit.

00:09But for the time being, there's actually a ridge of high pressure building,

00:12so things aren't too unsettled at the moment.

00:15Then that band of rain that I mentioned before comes through on Sunday,

00:19so that's going to bring some heavy, perhaps even thundery rain for a time.

00:22Before Storm Floris arrives, it brings some unseasably windy weather,

00:26especially across northern parts.

00:28I'll have a bit more about that in a second.

00:30Back to this afternoon, and it's not totally dry, no, not at all.

00:33There are a fair few showers around, perhaps western parts avoiding the showers on the whole,

00:39but one or two perhaps possible here.

00:41Further east across central, perhaps eastern parts,

00:44a greater chance of catching some of those showers,

00:46and there could be some blustery winds mixed in with them as well.

00:49The showers don't look quite as intense or as thundery as the ones that we saw through Thursday,

00:53but nonetheless, the odd heavy burst still possible.

00:56Temperatures are going to be a little bit lower as well compared to some recent days.

00:59We're still looking at highs just about getting into the low 20s.

01:02Towards the south, even some parts of Scotland could just about scrape into the low 20s.

01:06So if you do catch any bright or sunny spells and away from the more blustery winds,

01:11it's not going to feel too bad.

01:12Pretty warm, but yes, slightly fresher feel than of late.

01:17Then later on as we go through this evening,

01:18because of that ridge of high pressure that's building in,

01:20most of the showers through today are actually then going to ease and die out.

01:25The exception being across the far east of England, east Anglia,

01:28here a swathe of cloud and some showery rains likely to push in as we go through the early hours.

01:33Elsewhere, though, it's a dry pitcher overnight with some clear skies,

01:36and under those clear skies, it's going to turn a bit fresher than recent nights.

01:40Towns and cities generally holding up in double digits,

01:42but away from the more built-up areas, quite widely falling into single figures,

01:47could get as low as maybe four, five, six degrees perhaps in some prone rural spots.

01:53So a bit of a fresh start to the day tomorrow,

01:55but a bright, fine one for many away from the far east, southeast of England.

02:00Here, a bit more clouds and some showery bursts to start the day.

02:03Otherwise, yes, the cloud's going to bubble up a little bit more as we go into the afternoon,

02:07but for many, it's going to stay fine.

02:10There will still be some fairly decent sunny breaks around

02:13and just one or two showers perhaps to watch out for,

02:16but these are going to be pretty short-lived and light if you do catch any of them.

02:21Temperatures for many are going to be a few degrees higher than today.

02:24We're looking at highs of around 24, 25 Celsius towards the south,

02:27so mid-20s here, further north, high teens or low 20s,

02:31so feeling warmer in that bright, sunny weather that most of us will be getting.

02:35Later on, as we go through Saturday night into Sunday,

02:39things are going to be turning a bit cloudier from the northwest.

02:42There's that band of rain that I highlighted at the start that's starting to edge its way in,

02:46but it's through Sunday itself.

02:48If we skip forward, Sunday's going to be a pretty wet day at times

02:52because we are going to see that band of pretty intense rain making its way southeastwards.

02:56It's worth bearing in mind it's starting dry in the southeast,

02:59the rain not arriving until later,

03:00and turning drier, albeit showery, across the northwest.

03:03So this rain doesn't last especially long,

03:06but as it passes through, it could be heavy.

03:08There could even be a bit of thunder mixed in with it as well.

03:11And then that has a knock-on effect on our temperatures.

03:13Under the cloud and rain, it's going to feel pretty fresh,

03:16but when you get some brighter, sunny weather,

03:18well, it's going to feel relatively warm because it is still August after all.

03:22Then as we go through beyond and that clears away,

03:26there's a quieter spell for a short period of time as we start Monday before storm floris arrives.

03:31Now, it's not that often that we get storms during the summer months,

03:34but it's worth bearing in mind that at this time of year,

03:37we could see some increased disruption because of the fact that, well,

03:41the trees are full of leaf and there are lots of outdoor activities planned.

03:45You may be camping, you may be trying to head to a festival or something like that.

03:49And so as a result, we could see some significant impacts

03:52because of not only the rain but more so the winds,

03:55which could be gusting 70, 80, maybe even a little bit stronger than that,

03:5885 miles per hour, not out of the question across northern parts in particular.

04:02That's definitely something to keep on top of.

04:05We do already have a warning out, but that may need to get tweaked nearer the time.
