00:01:24Tampa, Florida, like every other location all around the world, pumped up, fired up about WCW Monday Nitro.
00:01:31Well, Mike, here's a newcomer to WCW.
00:01:37Well, this is El Vampiro, known in Mexico as Vampiro Canadiense, the Canadian vampire.
00:01:44From Toronto, Ontario, Canada, nine years of pro, primarily been flying his craft in Mexico as well as in Japan,
00:01:54making his World Championship Wrestling debut, a chance to expand his horizons
00:01:59and try out some different styles for wrestlers around the world, like this man, Brad Armstrong.
00:02:05Tell me, Mike, what's the Social Security number of El Vampiro?
00:02:08You know everything else about the guy.
00:02:10I've been watching him wrestle for the last decade or so, like I say, primarily in Mexico.
00:02:16It's going to be interesting to see how he's going to be able to fit in here in World Championship Wrestling,
00:02:20especially in singles competitions.
00:02:22So used to wrestling in six-man tags south of the border.
00:02:25I can tell you he's won an awful lot of championships in Mexico as well.
00:02:31Well, he'll face quite a veteran in Brad Armstrong.
00:02:35It is debut here on WCW Monday Nitro, and Billy Shilton, the referee,
00:02:39and our next match is off and running.
00:02:42We'll keep you posted on how much closer all alone the mailman and DDP are getting here to the Ice Palace in Tampa.

00:02:55looking a little bit more relaxed now than Brad Armstrong,

00:03:25And I don't know if that's all based on the fact that maybe he has been slighted,
00:03:29maybe he has been overlooked many times by promoters,
00:03:31but I don't think there's any question we've made it abundantly clear as announcers
00:03:35that Brad Armstrong is truly one of the finest wrestlers in our sport.
00:03:38Sure, you can talk about that Armstrong curse all you want, Tony,
00:03:41but there's no question that Brad Armstrong, through the years, nice balance by the Vampire,
00:03:45and then just gets turned inside out by the Armstrong clothesline.
00:03:49There is no question that Brad is really so technically sound in the ring.

00:03:55Of course, that little showboating you saw by Armstrong
00:03:58wasn't part of Brad Armstrong's repertoire for many, many years in this sport,
00:04:02and now all of a sudden, how about that explosion out of nowhere?

00:15:41Mike, I think it's very apparent the excitement leading up to Bash at the Beach is everywhere.
00:15:46Everywhere we go all around the world.
00:15:48And, Tony, it's not just the media because we've been talking about that for the past couple of weeks.
00:15:52Everywhere you turn and the mainstream media coverage, be it on television, radio, newspapers,
00:15:57that's what they've been talking about.
00:15:58And even here today, it's what's on the minds of all the wrestling fans at Nitro,
00:16:03that big tag team main event at Bash at the Beach.
00:16:06All right.
00:16:07Let's take a look at what happened at Thunder when we were in Orlando, Florida this past Wednesday.
00:16:12The Ultimo Dragon came out.
00:16:15He had the Dragon Sleeper on Chris Jericho.
00:16:18And here comes Dean Malenko.
00:16:21Now, remember, right before that, Jericho had said,
00:16:25this one is for your dead father, Malenko.
00:16:27That's what brought Malenko out.
00:16:29Malenko caused the match to end.
00:16:31It was no holding back of Dean Malenko.
00:16:34And there you see the Cruiserweight champion scurrying off, being chased.
00:16:38And then earlier we saw now that Jericho had told Ultimo Dragon,
00:16:43hey, we're eavesdropping on him, Brain.
00:16:45If you win here against Dean Malenko, I'll give you a Cruiserweight title shot.
00:16:50I don't know if that motivates for the Ultimo Dragon or not,
00:16:52but you know he's going to try to win.
00:16:55Oh, no doubt about it.
00:16:56But you know the intensity we've always talked about in Dean Malenko, I think,
00:17:00has reached a new fever pitch now.
00:17:02All he thinks about is his father, his late father, Boris Malenko.
00:17:06And all he can think about is what he thinks is scum.
00:17:10Chris Jericho is saying about him.
00:17:11And he's not going to rest until he pulls every hair into Jericho's head.
00:17:15Well, there's a couple of reasons that Dragon wants this matchup with Malenko.
00:17:19Of course, if he's successful, he gets the Cruiserweight Championship match this Thursday on Thunder.
00:17:23But also think back to last week's Thunder.
00:17:26It was Dean Malenko that ultimately cost the Ultimo Dragon the World's Cruiserweight title with his interference.
00:17:33I don't think there's any question about that.
00:17:35And now Dean Malenko will have a shot at Chris Jericho as J.J. Dillon made that announcement last week.
00:17:41Coming up at Bash at the Beach so you can understand the motivation now for Jericho.
00:17:46He does not want to have to face Malenko again.
00:17:48And I think we can all agree the fact that Malenko is not in there to be a champion.
00:17:53He's in there for some payback.
00:17:54Great move.
00:17:55These two know each other quite well.
00:17:58Oh, they certainly do, Tony.
00:17:59They've had such classic matchups, especially right here in World Championship Wrestling over the course of the past year or so.

00:18:37Of course, we are in Malenko's hometown of Tampa, Florida, so he feels very comfortable here at home.
00:18:46Kind of has a home field advantage, you might say.

00:18:49We talked about the birth of his daughter and his wife and daughter on hand here tonight.
00:18:54You think about that Malenko family legacy through the years.

00:20:43And as you know, Mike, when you go for that Mahistraw Cradle, you better have him on the right side because if you don't, then your cradle gets Mahi'd real bad.

00:22:27The anticipation of the arrival of the mailman, Carl Malone, and Diamond Dallas Cage has been the prevalent theme throughout the night.

00:26:11Well, I tell you, as Mongo and Benoit walk into the ring,
00:26:15I don't think there's any question, as you saw from the fans there,
00:26:18the fans remember the sign of the Horseman, guys.
00:26:21Well, everywhere around ringside, Tony, you see the WCW fans with the four fingers upraised,
00:26:28representing the great legacy of the four Horsemen.
00:26:32And, of course, Mongo and Benoit, both members of that elite group.
00:26:37Earlier tonight, it was a very telling interview, I think, from Stevie Ray when Gene Okerlund spoke with him.
00:26:42He talked about wanting a matchup one-on-one with Mongo or Benoit,
00:26:47but the fact that his brother, Booker T, wanted this tag team match.
00:26:50And how about that, the line that he had about Booker T goes along with just about everything that he says.
00:26:57I thought Booker T was quite good on his own.
00:27:03As a matter of fact, he's going to go with everything he says right there.
00:27:05You're right, Mike, because Stevie Ray said, hey, I want to get in against Benoit.
00:27:10I don't think Booker T liked it, but he went with it.
00:27:12He looked a little reluctant, didn't he?
00:27:14Yes, he sure did.
00:27:18Benoit is showing the quickness.
00:27:21And look at the cripple go to work.
00:27:25Well, there's so much respect between Benoit and Booker T,
00:27:28but there's none between Benoit and Stevie Ray.
00:27:31And I think that's the crux of the problem between the two.
00:27:34Well, he's in the best shape I've seen him in for a long time, Stevie Ray.
00:27:45He's bigger than he's ever been, faster, quicker.
00:27:47He's got more of a fire burning inside of him right now.
00:27:50I think that's the key element, right, Brain, is the fire burning inside of Stevie Ray.
00:27:54Is it because his brother is television champion?
00:27:58Is it because he wants to rekindle a seven-time World Tag Team Championship bond
00:28:03that he and his brother have, whatever it is?
00:28:05Stevie Ray wrestles like a man possessed out there.
00:28:09And, of course, we've often known how strong the man is.
00:28:13Tag and Booker T on the way in as well.
00:28:15And that's how you do things.
00:28:17He's getting right in the face of his brother, pointing it out.
00:28:19He's setting the example for Booker T.
00:28:21Booker T connects with a back elbow, covers one, two, and Benoit kicks away.
00:28:32Benoit, obviously, when he was, as he ducks out of the way,
00:28:38when he was selected as a drag-and-screw leg whip takedown,
00:28:42when he was selected as a member of the Horseman, he really took it to heart.
00:28:46And he knew what being a Horseman meant, something he wants to maintain.
00:28:50Now, Mongo back after the severe, broken arm he had.
00:28:56Still heavily taped.
00:28:58He and Mongo working together quite nicely as a tag team here.
00:29:01Well, McMichael and Benoit have apparently decided to work on the lower body of Booker T,
00:29:07and especially work over the knees of the world's television champion.
00:29:11If I was Mongo and I was Benoit, what I would do is I'd keep Booker T in the corner.
00:29:17I'd use fast tags in and out, make Stevie Ray get in the ring as many times as you can,
00:29:22make him break the count, make him get in the referee's face, and just wear down Booker T.
00:29:27Mongo runs in with Reckless Abandon, and Booker T gets the foot up in the nick of time.
00:29:32Mongo goes back out of the center.
00:29:33He rolls over towards Benoit, and Booker T brings Stevie Ray back in.
00:29:40Showing a little bit of that superb teamwork that made Booker T and Stevie Ray one of the most destructive tag teams in WCW history.
00:29:50Seven times tag team champs.
00:29:52Stevie Ray makes Mongo expend some energy getting up, trying to knock him down, but Mongo absorbed that.
00:29:58And now the big men, that is, are going toe-to-toe here.
00:30:01Yeah, certainly no love lost between these two men in the ring, no strangers to each other.
00:30:06We've seen them head-to-head one-on-one competition on some recent WCW broadcasts.
00:30:11Just two big physical warriors, Mongo and Stevie Ray.
00:30:15Just by the demeanor of Stevie Ray, it appears to me he'd rather be in there by himself.
00:30:19He don't even need his brother. He wants to just fight. He wants to show everybody what he's about.
00:30:24I don't think there's any question he needs his brother, but I think you're right in that he wants to take charge here.
00:30:28He puts the hand out, slaps in Booker T once again, and Booker T back in.
00:30:35It's again showing Booker T how it should be done.
00:30:37Booker T missed the shot that time, but did not miss that second one.
00:30:42That one wiped Mongo out.

00:30:47Momentarily derailed Mongo, but now the big man back up to his feet,
00:30:52but he gets taken down to the mat by Booker T.
