00:01Previously on Project Runway...
00:03Welcome to season 11 of Project Runway.
00:06Whoo-hoo!
00:07This season is a little twist.
00:09Every challenge will be a team challenge.
00:12Teams!
00:14This season is what fashion is really about.
00:17Everyone has to work together.
00:19Your inspiration for this challenge is New York City.
00:23Everything is breathtaking.
00:26How beautiful is that?
00:28If I can't win because Emily can't get her stuff together...
00:32I'll be done in about 20 minutes and I can help.
00:34Thank you so much, Dave.
00:41Team Keeping It Real, you are the winning team.
00:43I like that you played with asymmetry and architecture.
00:48I love how you manipulated the leather.
00:50I think it's genius.
00:51Did you like the team dynamic?
00:53Oh, yes. Everybody here, we all get along.
00:55You are the winner of this challenge.
00:57Thank you very much.
00:58Dream Team, you are the losing team.
01:00There is nothing New York about this.
01:02I personally love doing a lot of color blocking, but the team decided that it would be too simple.
01:08The whole thing feels a little pedestrian.
01:10Do you think that they steered you maybe in the wrong direction?
01:13I have never seen such an unfinished garment walk down the runway.
01:18Emily, I'm sorry they're out.
01:20This is Project Runway.
01:21Team's edition.
01:22It starts now.
01:23Let's shake things up.
01:24I made it!
01:25You know you love it.
01:26Your favorite fashion show.
01:27With a twist.
01:28Nothing can stop me.
01:29It's about teamwork.
01:30Teens don't work.
01:31It's our toughest competition yet.
01:32You work with me?
01:33You better be good.
01:34Make it work.
01:35Yay!
01:36I'll help you now.
01:37But I'll cut you later.
01:38Who will make it to New York Fashion Week?
01:39I will.
01:40I am fashion.
01:41Elvito's in.
01:42For these 16 designers, Project Runway is the chance of a lifetime.
01:43The winner of Project Runway will receive $50,000 in technology and office space from HP and
01:57Intel to bring their creativity to life and run their business.
02:00The fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine.
02:03The 2013 Lexus GS.
02:06$100,000 from Laurel Paris to start their own line.
02:09And the chance to design and sell an exclusive collection at Lord & Taylor.
02:14And the model paired with the winner of Project Runway will win a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine and $25,000 from Laurel Paris Advanced Hair Care.
02:23Well, we got one down.
02:30One down, but man, being on the losing team was brutal yesterday.
02:34We got a losing room.
02:35Yep.
02:36Got it.
02:37Back to the races.
02:46Hello.
02:47Hi.
02:48You all made it through the first challenge.
02:51Congratulations.
02:52For the next challenge, you'll continue to work in your same teams.
02:58Team, keeping it real, you still have eight designers.
03:04And dream team, you're down to seven because one of your designers got eliminated.
03:09Well, I hope you're all ready for your next challenge because it's going to be eight ball.
03:16You will need to meet Tim and a guest at 23rd and Park and they'll fill you in on all of the details.
03:22I wish you all good luck and I'll see you back here on the runway.
03:25Bye, everybody.
03:26Hi.
03:27Hi.
03:28Designers, welcome to Spin New York City.
03:29We are the preeminent ping pong social club and we're taking over America.
03:45Spin is the newest wave of nightlife, dining and entertainment.
03:51It's owned by Susan Sarandon.
03:53Spin attracts a celebrity clientele and a lot of A-listers.
03:56Brandon is going to tell you why you're here.
03:58Currently, our uniforms are lacking, so we're striving to change from this.
04:04So, designers, for this challenge, you're going to be creating new Spin server uniforms and new Spin ball boy uniforms.
04:12These uniforms need to be fashionable and they need to exude the fun and upbeat environment that is Spin.
04:18One thing to keep in mind is that our slogan is, balls are our business.
04:23We would like the ball boy uniform to incorporate this slogan.
04:27So, each team is going to create five looks.
04:30You will have three female models and two male models.
04:34Ooh.
04:35Oh, sorry.
04:36Michelle's all excited.
04:38Michelle.
04:39Each team will have a budget of $500 and you have one day for this challenge.
04:43The winning designs will go into all of our locations across the country.
04:46Wow.
04:47That's exciting and thrilling.
04:48But before we start the designs, we thought it'd be a good idea if we put you to work.
04:53There are servers.
04:56Are you guys okay with drinks?
04:57There are also ball boys.
04:59Oh, I see a ball.
05:00They run around and capture all the ping pong balls that are just kind of flying everywhere.
05:05This is a little workout here.
05:07It's starting to glisten a little.
05:08So, that's the uniform?
05:09Mm-hmm.
05:10You like to wear blazers?
05:11Mm-hmm.
05:12What would work better for you?
05:13The main thing is bending over and making sure this is long enough.
05:17Do you want to button down at all?
05:18No.
05:19Yeah, that's not the vibe.
05:20Okay.
05:21Just double-check it.
05:22So, designers, how was your test run?
05:31Fine.
05:32Fine.
05:33I got fired.
05:34All right.
05:35Well, now you have 30 minutes to meet as teams and to sketch.
05:40Let's sketch and then talk.
05:44That way we have our purest ideas.
05:46This is the first time where this team situation is really coming into play.
05:52We have to collaborate because there's no way we can divide up five looks that we need
05:56to meet among us evenly.
05:58Black pants, T-shirt with the ribbing around the neck.
06:01The score, you know what I mean?
06:02Yes.
06:03The front looks like an apron, but then it's short.
06:04So, we probably meet one person that does a really great pair of jeans because the bald
06:09boy did say that he likes to wear pants.
06:12I've done jeans before.
06:13Yeah, I'll make pants.
06:14I do a really great jacket and I love working with performance fabrics.
06:19Does somebody want to do the shirt?
06:21I'll do the shorts for that.
06:22I'm concerned that I won't do the shirt as sexy as you guys would prefer.
06:26Perfect.
06:27Time is up.
06:28We need to figure this out.
06:29Let's go, everybody.
06:30You have your $500 budget and 30 minutes to shop.
06:37Designers, you have 15 minutes remaining.
06:4015 minutes, everybody.
06:42Are we doing a black shirt or a white shirt?
06:51I'm waiting for a ticket.
06:53All right, designers, time is up.
06:561.06?
06:57Yes.
07:00We are designing uniforms for the employees of Spin.
07:07Spin is a ping pong club owned by Susan Sarandon.
07:12Susan wants uniforms that are fashion-forward, but also functional, sexy,
07:17that could be utilized in different situations.
07:20Each team is responsible for creating five looks.
07:25Three of those are female servers.
07:28One is a ball boy and the other is a male server.
07:33All the designers on my team, we're collectively all chiming in and giving our opinion.
07:37For the most part, it's positive.
07:40Do you just want one person at a time?
07:42Yeah, really quickly, a minute.
07:44All of us are really nervous.
07:45We don't want to be in that position again of having one of our teammates cut.
07:49There's a two inch of the spin.
07:56There's a nine.
07:57For this challenge, they brought in a screen printer for us to use.
08:01Yeah, I like how I'm feeling.
08:02The tunnel thing is beautiful.
08:04Hello, design teams.
08:11Hello.
08:12I am here to check in with you.
08:14All right.
08:15Team, keeping it real.
08:16How are you doing?
08:17We're doing great.
08:18Yeah.
08:19How did you interpret this challenge?
08:21Daniel and I paired.
08:22So the girls' service that we are doing is a uniform and the front, it's like an apron
08:27and it has a pocket so they can put their tips and also the building.
08:32Oh, and then you cover it up with a skirt panel?
08:34Yes.
08:35And then the vest I came up with, this lapel is almost like, it's like when the big bomb
08:39ball fell, it kind of goes around, kind of fun.
08:42And then the back does the same thing, like when a ball falls, it goes one side's higher,
08:45one side's lower.
08:46It seems like such a standalone.
08:49If the only place we see that is in the collar, there are other opportunities to use that
08:54shape.
08:55What about like that around the pocket too?
08:57Yeah.
08:58Like the ball.
08:59See what I mean?
09:00Yeah.
09:01I mean, how are the rest of you feeling about this?
09:02I think it's coming out beautiful.
09:03So Stanley, are you working on this alone?
09:05Yes.
09:06I'm doing the mail server.
09:07I decided to do something like a little retro.
09:09Put the logo here and the balls are my business on the back side.
09:12I'm thinking it's very easy to put this into production.
09:16All right.
09:17All right.
09:18Richard and Joe, what do you have for us?
09:21We started speaking with the gentleman that was there.
09:24And when the balls were going everywhere, he was like, who took my stick?
09:28So the first thing I thought was, you need somewhere to put that.
09:31So we decided that we were going to do a little back harness.
09:35So that way he could just fasten this on the back.
09:38And then it attaches this way to him.
09:40And then it's Velcro, so he can just like literally just pull it right off.
09:42And then just start picking back up again.
09:44Clever.
09:45The guys are going to really like it.
09:47All right.
09:48We're about handling business.
09:49Amanda.
09:50So I'm doing a basic fit and flare with an intense fabric.
09:54What is it?
09:55You know, it's a swimwear.
09:56It's like a spandex.
09:57Oh.
09:58But it's really...
09:59I think that's clever.
10:00Also washing wear.
10:01Total washing wear.
10:02Swimmin' wear.
10:03Yeah.
10:04That's fun too.
10:05So Kate and Patricia, you're collaborating on this look for your team?
10:08Yes.
10:09Yes.
10:10Okay.
10:11Since I'm doing a simple lagon, I needed to really think about what would make it pop out.
10:14So I'm going to print this part onto the lagon.
10:19And then I'm going to be cutting out the negative space ever so intermittently.
10:23And I'm really good and fast about cutting out patterning.
10:25So then that detail will be on the bottom of the left side of the lagon.
10:29I'm beginning to sense that you're thinking about, but wait a minute.
10:32What about me?
10:33It's about you.
10:34Right.
10:35Right.
10:36I just want to cover myself.
10:37I just, you know, I mean, at the end of the day...
10:40Well, I know.
10:41But I'm sensing ego.
10:43I'm sensing ego.
10:44I'm sorry.
10:45No ego.
10:46You don't want these pieces shouting at you.
10:47You want to consider restraint and you don't want to over design.
10:51But should we end up on the bottom?
10:52She wants to be able to say, okay, I...
10:55But it's that element of, oh, I can't just do this because I may be the one out.
11:01So I've got to do X, Y, and Z.
11:02It may be X, Y, and Z that put you on the bottom.
11:05All right.
11:06We'll move on.
11:07So how's Dream Team doing?
11:10I think better than yesterday.
11:11Yes.
11:12Okay, good.
11:13So, Michelle, what are you doing?
11:14I'm doing a server dress using elastic in a lot of ways and the sporty racer back.
11:21Uh-huh.
11:22One of the things when we were training and running around, there was no pockets.
11:26So my dress has a big pocket that will also be top stitched down.
11:32Speaking for myself, I have a positive response to how you're doing it here.
11:35Thoughts?
11:36I love it.
11:37I like that.
11:38All right.
11:39Should we move on?
11:40Yes.
11:41Okay.
11:42Matt and Ben, what do you have for us?
11:43We are doing the ball boy.
11:45Okay.
11:46But I'm working on the jeans right now and it's kind of a very difficult task.
11:50Some little...
11:51Can I just ask this question?
11:53With jeans being so ubiquitous worldwide, why are you making a jean?
11:58Why?
11:59I mean, is there going to be something new about it?
12:01Would it be better to hack it off and make it a jort, a jean short?
12:06Make it a short.
12:07I think it needs to look fresh and new and like something Spin can't go out and buy.
12:12There isn't a whole lot.
12:13We were joking around earlier.
12:15A kilt?
12:16Actually...
12:17Balls will definitely be business kilt.
12:19That's what I thought was like balls would be out and...
12:21I think it's quite interesting.
12:22I know.
12:23I mean, you could do an urban kilt.
12:25I don't like that.
12:26Michelle, it's all your fault.
12:27No!
12:28Samantha, too, you're making the dress.
12:30You're making the jacket.
12:31You're making the jacket.
12:32This jacket and that dress look like they've come out of two completely different closets.
12:37So, Cindy, you've designed and made this jacket, correct?
12:42Yes.
12:43Okay.
12:44Looks very beautifully made.
12:45It's very chic.
12:46Yeah.
12:47It's very chic.
12:48And that's the top for underneath it?
12:50It's two completely different women.
12:52We realized there had to be something underneath it, so I just put my hand up and was like,
12:56I'll make a top.
12:57Did you look at Cindy's jacket?
12:59Um, I did.
13:00I do know what Cindy's jacket is.
13:02The whole notion of pairing it with Cindy's jacket, to me, I'm going to quote Michael Corbin.
13:06It's wackadoodle.
13:07I don't get it.
13:08I think you have all these disparate pieces happening.
13:13I don't see them coming together.
13:15Coming up on Project Runway.
13:19Oh, it's a construction disaster.
13:22I'm feeling just generally unhappy.
13:25Our team is sucking.
13:26I think you're in trouble.
13:29So, James, tell us what you're doing.
13:34You know, working on a men's shirt.
13:36The inspiration on it is from the ping pong table.
13:39Can I just tell you, this shirt is a mess.
13:43It's a mess.
13:44Okay.
13:45The color scheme is off.
13:46The proportions are off.
13:48It's a construction disaster.
13:50I just think you should scrap that shirt.
13:53I have to tell you guys, I think you're in trouble.
13:58You need to be on top this time, or you're going to lose another team member.
14:08All right, design teams.
14:09Your models will be in shortly for a fitting, and I will see you in the morning.
14:14Okay?
14:15Make it work, everyone.
14:21Cool.
14:22Cool.
14:23Let's get a plan going.
14:26We just got to regroup, figure out what the weak links were, and really kind of troubleshoot.
14:31I'm just going to try to get my kilt done, and I'll start working on my top.
14:35We'll do the tuxedo shorts, because it will look great with that jacket.
14:38Yeah.
14:39I'm happy to do that.
14:40Then what I would like to do is turn the tank into a man's tank and ditch the t-shirt.
14:44Oh.
14:45Yeah.
14:46I think that's awesome.
14:47And put that with the kilt.
14:48What are we going to do with the top here?
14:50I need fabric.
14:51I'm told to scrap your shirt, make something else, but with no fabric.
14:56What am I going to make this with?
14:58There will definitely be scrap of this that you could integrate.
15:01Yeah, but it needs something light.
15:03I mean, that's a very, very big problem.
15:08So what I was going to do, because I don't have a lot of fabric, is take apart those jeans
15:11I have and do the pleat at the bottom.
15:13I begin in the 11th hour trying to whip out a kilt.
15:17I'm going to put balls of our business on the front.
15:22I'm loving that.
15:23I love the kilt.
15:25It is humorous, it is bold, and it's much more me as a designer.
15:30I'm doing a kilt.
15:32Okay, then.
15:33I'm putting balls of our business right on the front.
15:36Okay, do it.
15:37Yeah.
15:42Hey, girl.
15:43I think it'll end right there.
15:45See how they fit?
15:46They're kind of low waist.
15:47Yeah.
15:48Okay.
15:49I think we're fine.
15:50Okay, let's see a walk.
15:53Bye-bye.
15:54Thank you, bye.
15:55That's good.
15:56I'm so proud of you.
15:58We gotta go, y'all.
15:59Time to go!
16:00Time to go!
16:01Time to go!
16:04To be continued.
16:06Our team, actually, we get along very well, but it doesn't show when it comes to our work.
16:31Good morning, design teams.
16:32You ready for a great runway presentation?
16:34Yes.
16:35All right, you will have two hours to send your models to the L'Oreal Paris Hair and Makeup Rooms.
16:39Use the Lord and Taylor Wall very thoughtfully.
16:42We're gonna have a great runway show.
16:44Thanks, Tim.
16:45Bye.
16:49This morning, I'm creating a top.
16:51James, are you done?
16:52I actually still have to hem it.
16:53Just, you know, making it work.
16:55It's perfect.
16:56So we wanna keep it really natural, really neutral eye, and just a real simple lip.
17:11Bronze, maybe like, you know, just give some definition here.
17:14Excellent.
17:15I've got it.
17:16Okay.
17:17I want her to look sexy, but pretty natural.
17:19Why don't we do a gorgeous, smoky eye?
17:22And really, we'll make the eyes pop.
17:24Cool.
17:25Okay.
17:26Excellent.
17:27He's gonna be in a kilt, so I was thinking something kind of super jelly, glossed down,
17:34kind of that...
17:35Mad Men hair?
17:36Mad Men hair.
17:37Yeah, exactly.
17:38Straighten it and just pull it back.
17:39Okay.
17:40We'll just get this blown out with some smooth and shine cream, nice and glossy.
17:43It should be looking cute.
17:45I wish I could have baked this a little tighter, but...
17:48Why don't you just serge it real quick?
17:49You think I could?
17:50The shirt's a little big in the waist.
17:52I talked to Richard about it.
17:53I'm like, Richard, what can I do about this really quick?
17:55Maybe we're just gonna take it off the model and just go run it on the serger.
17:58Designers, it is time to go down to the runway.
18:02So you and your models and I are all departing.
18:09Thank you, Amanda.
18:10Stanley.
18:11Go.
18:12There we go.
18:13Put it on quick, quick, quick.
18:15Okay.
18:16Is that everyone?
18:17That's it.
18:18Coming up on Project Runway.
18:20That is a very disturbing length.
18:22Tasteless.
18:23It looks like something you could buy off the rack.
18:25I think it's really ballsy.
18:36Hi, everybody.
18:37Hi.
18:38Welcome to the runway.
18:39As you know, in fashion, one day you're in, and the next day, you're out.
18:44That's so cute, your little heart.
18:47Daniel, you won the last challenge, which means you have immunity for this week and you cannot
18:51be eliminated.
18:52We asked you to create new uniforms for the ping pong social club, Spin.
18:57The winning uniform will be worn by the staff at all Spin locations.
19:01For this challenge, you worked in your two design teams.
19:04And as I've told you in the past, you're only as strong as your weakest link.
19:08Okay, let's meet the judges.
19:10First, we have acclaimed American designer, Zach Posen.
19:13Hi.
19:14Fashion director for Marie Claire Magazine, Nina Garcia.
19:17Hi, everyone.
19:18Hi.
19:19And you see there's an empty chair.
19:21We have a very special guest judge for today.
19:24Academy Award winning actress and owner of Spin, Susan Sarandon.
19:29Yay!
19:30Hey, isn't she from Thelma and Louise?
19:33Welcome.
19:35We love having you here.
19:39I'm very happy to be here.
19:40It's a hard thing, I know, to be practical and to be stylin'.
19:44So I'm really curious to see what you guys came up with.
19:46Me too.
19:47We will score your designs as they come down the runway.
19:49Okay, let's start the show.
19:51Great.
19:59She's looking awesome.
20:02She looks great in the garment.
20:04It's functional.
20:05It's different.
20:06It's unique.
20:07It's unlike anything else up there.
20:13I'm really proud of it.
20:14It's something I would wear.
20:24My jacket's fitting all right.
20:25It is pulling a little bit.
20:26So where I wanted the zipper to be a little bit more covered is completely exposed.
20:32I feel very grateful to work with Samantha.
20:36We make it work together and I really like it.
20:39The pants look really good on the model.
20:40But the t-shirt, it is what it is.
20:44I'm not pleased with the crotch.
20:45I've sent down a really...
20:46I'm not pleased with the crotch.
20:47I've sent down a really...
20:48I'm not pleased with the crotch.
20:49I'm not pleased with the crotch.
20:50I've sent down a really boring pair of shorts.
20:52I do wish that the shorts were flared, but I think it looks polished.
20:53I'm not pleased with the crotch.
20:54I've sent down a really boring pair of shorts.
20:59I do wish that the shorts were flared, but I think it looks polished, upbeat and high-end.
21:12I'm very happy with it.
21:13The look is looking cool.
21:17He is owning the kilt, which is kind of awesome.
21:18I'm not feeling 100% about what I put my hand to, but guys wearing kilts is cool and edgy,
21:19and I love that kind of stuff.
21:20And I love that kind of stuff.
21:23I'm not feeling 100% about what I put my hand to, but guys wearing kilts is cool and edgy,
21:32and I love that kind of stuff.
21:37The other team, they have some looks that I don't understand.
21:58I see that there are several strong pieces, but I'm still confident about my team and what
22:04we're showing.
22:06She looks so cute, so playful, ready to go to work and take orders and be the cutest
22:20waitress.
22:21I'm feeling very confident.
22:26We fulfilled the challenge.
22:29It's a rockin' look.
22:34He looks awesome.
22:35It looks like I met the niece of the client, and I see a big smile on Susan Sarandon's face.
22:46As a whole waitstaff, our team looks pretty solid, and I hope the judges like it.
22:51You nailed the pants, dude.
22:55I think she looks really cute and sporty.
23:01She kind of looks like she's going to yoga, but in a good way, maybe.
23:08The leggings and the skirt just look like a safe way to dress a sports cocktail waitress.
23:15I hope it's just not too simple.
23:16It is so short.
23:17I feel good about it.
23:18The fit is good.
23:19The shape is interesting.
23:20But I just keep thinking, it's so short.
23:21The pants and the shirt and the harness are all working really well together.
23:25It's pretty awesome.
23:26I'm so into it.
23:27It looks great.
23:28It looks great.
23:29And it's really good.
23:30It looks good.
23:31The shape is interesting.
23:34But I just keep thinking, it's so short.
23:46It looks great.
23:47I can see some really big losers on Keeping It Real's designs.
24:14So I think that this is going to be a really difficult decision for the judges.
24:21One member from the winning team will be the winner of this challenge.
24:26And one member from the losing team will be out.
24:36There will be a winning team and a losing team.
24:43The team keeping it real.
24:50You are the winning team again.
24:55Oh my God.
24:56Yep.
24:57Yes.
24:58Yes.
24:59Dream team, that means you are the losing team yet again.
25:11We're going to talk to the team keeping it real first.
25:15So dream team, you can leave the runway.
25:18Team keeping it real.
25:22We're going to talk about the three looks that we like most.
25:26Okay, let's start with the look that Marina is wearing.
25:35I did the best.
25:36And...
25:37Well, immediately when we went to spin, it was very young and quirky and a little retro.
25:44So immediately I thought, okay, shorts and something that kind of resembles an apron.
25:49And then we also talked to the bartender and the waitress and they said they want to look sexy because of course they want tips.
25:55And the best of what I came up with, I got some ping pong balls that dropped them and watched them bounce.
26:00So if you see how that's all curved around the neckline, it's like the ping pong ball bouncing.
26:04Yeah, the lapel.
26:05But it was fun.
26:06I think that you did a great job in being very practical and at the same time kind of sexy.
26:11Combining all those things is really hard.
26:13Well done.
26:15I like that you took a t-shirt and gave it a formality.
26:18I think that's interesting.
26:20My only comment that I would say is as I like the creative aspect of the asymmetry, I would just question the balance of the garment.
26:29But I think as the general idea, I think it really works.
26:33I think so too.
26:34What is nice about this look is that she looks really cute, sexy, but not overly sexy.
26:40When you are a girl, you don't necessarily want someone that's bringing your food or your drinks to have everything already hanging out.
26:47You want to be the one that has everything hanging out.
26:49Absolutely.
26:50You know what I mean?
26:51Nina, what did you think about this look?
26:53I think it's so charming.
26:55Is it a short?
26:56Is it a skirt?
26:57It's a skirt.
26:58It's adorable.
26:59It's a version of an apron, but without being an apron.
27:03The fact that it's a dark color, if she's getting dirty, it's very practical.
27:07You guys thought about a lot of details.
27:09So Liana and Daniel, if this were the winning look, which one of you two should be the winner?
27:14Well, I have immunity, so be her.
27:18Okay, let's go to the next look.
27:21Who made this?
27:22I did.
27:23So tell us about it.
27:24Well, I just took a really practical approach.
27:26I thought about a guy in his 20s being a waiter.
27:28I didn't want to do a t-shirt, so I took that whole raglan short sleeve sweatshirt thing.
27:33And I didn't want a skinny jean, so I just dropped the crotch and made it tapered and just kind of modernized it a little bit.
27:38And there you are.
27:40It looks edgy and fun and cool.
27:42I can see that it's a little futuristic, but still a little retro.
27:46I love the way that you incorporated the logo.
27:49It stands out.
27:50And I am crazy about the pants.
27:52The guys would definitely wear that.
27:53Yeah.
27:54When I first came up with the idea of Balls Are My Business as a logo on the back of the t-shirts, they weren't so sure.
28:00Oh, really?
28:01So, I mean, some things that are too crazy, I don't know that they'd feel really comfortable, but this looks like totally practical.
28:07And at the same time, it's very strong and sexy.
28:09I like it.
28:10Can we have a look at the back again?
28:12I like the pockets a lot.
28:13I think it's a nice, modern construction.
28:16They're on an angle.
28:17Personally, I'm not a fan of dropped crotch pants.
28:20I love the pants.
28:21It's what young guys are wearing.
28:23Cool.
28:24Then we have Pasha.
28:25Who made his look?
28:27So who did what?
28:28The first thing we did was we spoke with Ball Boys.
28:31And he said, actually, I do two jobs.
28:33I also help bus tables.
28:34And that was the first thing that struck me was, you know, it's...
28:37You have to design a spot for it.
28:38You should have something really cool just to put on, like, so you can just work and pick up stuff.
28:41We were talking about trying to get a vacuum thing that picked up balls.
28:44At one point, it was like Ghostbusters.
28:46So that's the closest thing so far without the machine.
28:49So who did which piece?
28:50I was mostly responsible for the pants and using the print as a more decorative way for the pockets.
28:56And then I think we equally worked on the bag.
28:59Yeah.
29:00And then the shirt was mostly your work.
29:02And we decided to go with the white on top because when you wear black shirts, a lot of times in the club, it looks like you have dandruff on your shoulders.
29:08I've seen that before.
29:09Yeah.
29:10And it's not cool.
29:11It's not.
29:12I think it looks really cool.
29:13I love what you guys did with the slogan Balls Are My Business.
29:16And I like that it's actually on the right places because I have seen some things on that runway today where I thought Balls Are My Business were placed in the wrong spot.
29:24Or on the right spot.
29:26Or on the right spot.
29:27Or on the right spot.
29:28Yeah.
29:29There's a lot going on, but it's not silly.
29:30If this was the winning look, who should be the winner?
29:33It's hard to say.
29:34Yeah.
29:35I think we were really like formed a unit.
29:37All in all, I think as a team, you guys did a great job collaborating, especially these three outfits look very complimentary.
29:46Okay.
29:47We've heard what you had to say.
29:48We're going to now talk to the losing team and then I'll bring you back out.
29:51Dream Team, you are the losing team again this week.
30:04We're going to discuss the three looks with the lower scores.
30:08Who did the look that Nikolai is wearing?
30:10I did.
30:11Tell us about your look, James.
30:12I personally believe that brand recognition is so important.
30:15Your everyday consumer has to see something about nine times before they actually purchase it.
30:19And so the back side of the pocket, I just supported more of the existing logo.
30:23I want to make sure that the consumer would walk out of there remembering the brand of where they're at.
30:29That is a very disturbing length.
30:33I mean, it really looks like a cabana boy or a poor boy.
30:36It's a nice outfit, but I don't know that there's anything that would identify him as a server is my problem with it.
30:43I do have to say what bothers me, guys have hairy armpits and when they come and they bring you food, I just don't want to see it.
30:50I don't know.
30:51That's just me.
30:52Well, the top looks messy to me.
30:54Did you work with anyone on your team or did you do this look by yourself?
30:57I did this independently.
31:00Did you guys try to help him?
31:02Did you guys not communicate?
31:03We did help.
31:04Like, what happened here?
31:05I mean, I could honestly tell you that I did another top before that, but, you know, no one was feeling it, so we executed that out.
31:13Okay, so who made the look that Gina is wearing?
31:16I made the shorts to go with the jacket. Cindy made the jacket.
31:19And the tank.
31:20Dressing up a sporty place was the idea.
31:24I think this look shows that both of you know how to sew, but she looks like she is the receptionist at a hotel somewhere in the suburbs.
31:31That's like, breaks my heart to think.
31:34Sorry, I don't want to break your heart.
31:36We saw her as a classier hostess.
31:39You're right, for somebody doing a posh party or something, that is a more toned down kind of version, but with all the music going and the balls flying and the colors that are in the club, it seems a little sad.
31:52I think you achieved what you were trying to achieve, I just don't think it's the appropriate outfit for the job or for the challenge or for the venue.
32:01Both of the servers had jackets on.
32:03It doesn't mean because they like to wear that or they have that it still has to continue that way.
32:07Absolutely not.
32:08It's a show about design.
32:10Think of something new.
32:11It just looks like it's something that you would buy out of a dated catalogue.
32:17If I could step in and say something, in a team when you're working, often there is a leader.
32:23I've come from a background where I have been that leader and I spent more of my energy, I think, checking in on everyone's pieces when I should have just been focusing my energy just on the pieces that I had committed to.
32:37I stepped in and filled the gaps and I think because of that I've really compromised myself as a designer.
32:44Alright.
32:45Matt, how do you like wearing a skirt?
32:48Nice and breezy.
32:49Okay.
32:50So who designed this look?
32:51I did the kilt.
32:52I did the top.
32:53So tell us about it.
32:54They had sketched a couple of male tops and it needed a bottom, so I said I would just construct a basic pair of jeans.
33:01And after the critique, I was like, I'm not really showing myself with a basic pair of jeans.
33:06So I was thinking the ball reference as in free-balling.
33:11So I took it to a kilt.
33:13And, um, so...
33:15Susan, would you go for something like that?
33:17More importantly, my guys wouldn't wear a skirt, I can tell you right now.
33:21But I think it's really ballsy.
33:24I think that would be asking a lot of most of them.
33:31And Benjamin, you did the top.
33:32We had this idea of using netting.
33:34I really loved your logo.
33:36I wanted to capture the frenetic energy and just create a textile.
33:39I don't mind that there's a tongue-in-cheek gender bending.
33:43To me, the bigger issue is that there's way too many elements in this outfit.
33:47You have the frenetic printing on the shirt on mesh overlay graphics in an inappropriate area.
33:54He's wearing a skirt.
33:55And then there's even another graphic element on the back of it.
33:58It's just a lot going on.
34:00Nina, what do you think?
34:01I appreciate when you guys are provocative.
34:06Sadly, for this challenge, you have a client.
34:10So you were walking a very dangerous line.
34:14I find myself more in the artist version of design than commercial.
34:19So for me, it was either not make a statement or make a statement.
34:23Fashion is about art and commerce and how they go together.
34:26That's why fashion isn't necessarily categorized as a fine art.
34:30So I think, you know, you have to pick within your challenges which kind of risk you're going to take.
34:36And this was a very specific design commission.
34:39Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
34:41We're going to have a little chat and then I call you back out.
34:44You can leave the runway.
34:50All right, that was a fun challenge.
34:52Yeah, a very difficult challenge, I felt.
34:54Very difficult.
34:55I think so too.
34:56Yeah.
34:57Because it really had to do with reality.
34:59That's why I have to say I was a little bit not mad at Matt, but hello, this is not what this challenge is.
35:06You have to design something for real people in the real world working.
35:11Well, it's true design.
35:12It's practicality.
35:13So I didn't like that.
35:14And he just totally ignored the challenge.
35:15I don't like that.
35:16He wanted to play with the tongue in cheek idea.
35:18I think he'd lost the crotch piece.
35:21I think we would have looked at it really differently.
35:24The crotch piece was tasteless.
35:25But to be honest with you, I would rather see Matt's outrageousness anytime over James' snooze.
35:34No, James' look is definitely like some surfer dude.
35:38It didn't really transport us.
35:40It didn't sell the idea.
35:42It didn't make you want to work in the place and wear this cool uniform.
35:46We also have to think about that Benjamin, even though he helped everyone else and he kind of took the part of the team leader, he had two pieces up here today that were on the bottom.
35:57That's true.
35:58Those shorts were terrible.
35:59They really were.
36:01If Benjamin, you know, took this leadership role, he's not succeeding with it, right?
36:05I mean, again, they were on the bottom as a team.
36:09James was up here last week.
36:11He's here again.
36:12Cindy was up there.
36:14She's here again.
36:15Can we talk about Cindy and her jacket?
36:17Of course.
36:18It looks like something you could buy off the rack.
36:20It looked generic.
36:21It looked generic.
36:22I just think she's a little too dowdy.
36:24On a positive note, there were some great looks there today, I thought.
36:27Yeah, definitely.
36:28Let's talk about the servo look that Liana and Daniel did.
36:32I've never seen, what is it called?
36:33A short.
36:34A short.
36:35Wow.
36:36A short and a skirt.
36:37I love that you have never heard of it.
36:39I had skirts.
36:40I remember wearing skirts.
36:41This was like a little apron that was a skirt.
36:44Yeah, it worked.
36:45So it took it even a step forward.
36:46It was a three in one.
36:47Yeah, it was a utility skort.
36:49It was a three in one.
36:50And I don't necessarily think on terms of design lines that the vest worked.
36:54But there's something about the vest that says that I'm here to serve you and they would be identifiable.
37:00It's sporty but elegant at the same time.
37:02It's a very good combo.
37:03Okay, let's talk about the boys.
37:05The boys are both really cute.
37:06Yeah, really nice.
37:08We talked about the sweatshirt one first.
37:10That was Stanley's.
37:11You know, the sleeves were very different.
37:13The dropped crotch.
37:14Why you don't like the dropped crotch?
37:15Looks a little sloppy to me.
37:17Looks like something sloppy happened.
37:19Mm-hmm.
37:20I love when you go like this.
37:21Looks like something sloppy happened.
37:23But it's fine.
37:24You know, I think if you can pull it off, wear it.
37:27Well, he pulled it off.
37:28He totally pulled it off.
37:29I mean, he looked hot in it, that guy.
37:31He looked good.
37:32He looked hot.
37:33And I like that the balls are my business wasn't, you know, too much in your face.
37:37No, it was good.
37:38And it was just very nice in the back.
37:39It was elegant.
37:40Right?
37:41It was elegant.
37:42And it was cool.
37:43Let's talk about the ball boy uniform, which Joe did and Richard.
37:46You know, this to me is thinking outside the box, but still being real.
37:51Yeah.
37:52I mean, that is wearable.
37:53It's hip and fashion forward with branding.
37:54Absolutely.
37:55I mean, he kind of incorporated, or both of them incorporated all of it.
37:58And also it was quite brilliant coming up with the thing to carry that.
38:01I thought that was the best.
38:02That was very clever.
38:03Of course.
38:04The other thing is, this is something that could work for the girls and the boys.
38:08Well, that's interesting.
38:09I hadn't thought of that.
38:10That's really interesting.
38:11You're right.
38:12I think we've made our decision.
38:13Yes?
38:14Yeah.
38:15Yes.
38:16Okay.
38:17Let's bring them back out.
38:19One member from Keepin' It Real will be the winner of this challenge.
38:23And one member from Dream Team will be out.
38:35One member from Keepin' It Real will be the winner of this challenge.
38:40And one member from Dream Team will be out.
38:46Liana, you are the winner of this challenge.
38:53Congratulations.
38:54Oh, my God.
38:55I can call my friends and say, go to Spain and check out my uniform.
38:59Yay.
39:00Thank you, guys.
39:01Thank you so much.
39:02It was a lot of fun.
39:03It was a very, very difficult thing to come up with something that's fun and practical,
39:08and I never even knew what a skort was, so I'm so happy to be educated in that.
39:13Great.
39:15Wow.
39:16Team Keepin' It Real, you're all in.
39:18So you can all leave the runway.
39:19Thank you very much.
39:22I'm so happy to be the winner of this challenge.
39:24God.
39:25My little skort.
39:26I know.
39:27Your little skort won.
39:28A little skort that could.
39:29I really think I deserve to win, and this is just the beginning.
39:33Yeah.
39:34I'm so happy for you.
39:35Aww.
39:38Dream Team, not so dreamy, unfortunately.
39:44Samantha.
39:45Michelle.
39:46Two.
39:47Benjamin.
39:49Matt.
39:50You're all in.
39:51You can leave the runway.
39:52Cindy, that wool blazer missed the mark for this challenge.
40:03It was corporate and dowdy.
40:05James, your blah tank top and those poorly made capri pants,
40:10they would not fit the vibe at spin.
40:14Cindy.
40:15You're in.
40:16You can leave the runway.
40:17Thank you very much.
40:19I'm sorry, James.
40:20That means you're out.
40:21Auf Wiedersehen.
40:22Okay.
40:23All the best to you.
40:24Thank you so much, everyone.
40:25I just feel like I should have taken control from the get-go.
40:30James.
40:31James.
40:32James.
40:33Okay.
40:34James.
40:35Okay.
40:36I still have so much to show, and I think it's such a shame that I just didn't get the
40:53chance.
40:54It's a quiet room.
40:56Good heavens.
40:57Yeah.
40:58It's a hard day.
40:59But I have to say something to Dream Team.
41:02Everything on that runway was better than what I saw yesterday in the workroom.
41:07So congratulations to you.
41:08That's how we felt about it, too.
41:09Everything was better.
41:10Yeah.
41:11But James, I have to send you to the workroom to clean up your space.
41:14All right.
41:15Great meeting everybody.
41:16James.
41:17Okay.
41:18Wish you guys the best of luck.
41:20Good luck to you, too.
41:21Best wishes to you.
41:22Thank you, Tim.
41:23What I do next is just get back to business.
41:24I mean, this is just a growing point for me.
41:26Regardless, it still gets better.
41:28I just have to work even harder to get that.
41:31Next time on Project Runway.
41:34For this challenge you're designing for Heidi, and she's going to wear the winning looks.
41:39They're going to be seen all over the world.
41:41What?
41:42This challenge is major.
41:44I'm just feeling so worried now.
41:46I'm kind of like shutting down.
41:47There's no time for doubt.
41:49I sense from you a real despair.
41:52I'm freaking out.
41:53Benjamin is crashing and burning.
41:58This is the worst construction I've seen.
42:01We did not like your looks at all.
42:03She really looks trashy.
42:04She looks like she's been shipwrecked.
42:05Mayday, mayday.
42:06Mayday, mayday.
42:07.
42:13.
