00:00:00all right the stage is set for what
00:00:29should be a really good game one as this series gets underway introductions
00:00:34wrapping up down on the field and first pitch just minutes away
00:00:44and welcome into the ballpark happy to have you with us we've got the American
00:00:49League Championship Series on the show it's the New York Yankees going up
00:00:54against the Oakland Athletics
00:00:59alongside Chris Singleton I'm John Shopey singing this should be fun well you can
00:01:06feel the energy in the ballpark and these two teams have fought through so
00:01:10much adversity to get here when you get here you forget about individual
00:01:14statistics and you play for the team when the team is able to do that they see
00:01:18themselves go to another level and I'm looking forward to seeing that tonight
00:01:22all right we'll be back to get this one started after this
00:01:35just about set to go down and today's starter Charles Bender Chris how about a scouting report
00:01:47well he's very unique for one clear reason Boog and that's because he throws a screwball a legit
00:01:53screwball it's not just a two seam fastball that has run and pretty much no one throws a true screwball but he does and he actually can be really effective with the pitch it kind of breaks like a slider but it moves to the pitcher's arm side instead of the glove side you know I'm really excited to see it in action because I've heard it is devastating
00:02:11first pitch 705
00:02:23next offering is foul back
00:02:27the one one is upstairs and that's ball two
00:02:40and he deals
00:02:46fouls one off
00:02:49two and two
00:02:49and a foul ball he stays alive
00:03:06the pitch
00:03:17and now it's filled up
00:03:20at the belt and fires
00:03:35and a pop-off right side foul territory
00:03:39makes a nice grab and a full sprint
00:03:43one down
00:03:43as we take a look now at the New York Yankees lineup
00:03:51they're dealing with a top level arm of the mound so this figures to be a tough matchup for him
00:03:57what's the key to the offense today singing
00:03:59I think when you got a guy that's this talented on the mound you got to find ways to disrupt his rhythm make him uncomfortable a little bit
00:04:07the guys that can handle the bat and perhaps you know bunt bunt for a base hit get him moving off the mound if you're in the box and he seems to be just in a flow step out mess up his timing somehow try to get in his head a little bit and then when he does come in the zone you may only get one pitch you better not miss it
00:04:25no score just getting started top of the first
00:04:27comes up empty on the swing 0-2 now
00:04:37and singing as a team you need to make the most of the very few opportunities he's going to give you right
00:04:43absolutely and you know if you don't get to guys like this a lot of times early
00:04:47once they really settle in
00:04:49it's going to be the later innings that they hand that ball over to a reliever if they do at all
00:04:53so two down now and here is Babe Ruth
00:05:03this is a guy you got to keep an eye on when he digs in
00:05:06definitely been known to drop a drag bunt from time to time
00:05:10and he's pretty good at it Chris yeah and he creates a sense of urgency for the
00:05:15defense because of the speed because of the ability to put down that bunt
00:05:23first pitch doesn't find the zone now you see even sluggers from time to time try and
00:05:29use the bunt really as a way to beat the shift
00:05:35out to center Simmons in position and that ends the inning
00:05:42down in order go the Yankees and the A's will get their first opportunity in a scoreless ball game
00:05:51it's major league baseball and it's on the show
00:05:54we go to the bottom of the first now the starting pitcher in this one Jack Crespo what do you have on him a really good outing for him last time scattered two runs was attacking hitters getting ahead in the count great performance we'll see if he can do it again in this one bottom of the first and a batter now Ricky Henderson
00:06:18the pitch
00:06:27that one's in there
00:06:314-1-1
00:06:32and there's a ball
00:06:46righty to the plate
00:06:52here's a high fly ball out to center
00:06:56DiMaggio settles underneath it
00:06:59one away
00:07:01and time now to check out the A's lineup
00:07:09the sluggers in this lineup might not be too happy about the fact that the wind is blowing in today Chris
00:07:15yeah you hear pitchers talk about how good it feels when the wind is at their back and for hitters you almost feel like beyond just the pitcher coming at you you got this other force coming against you so important to try to get on top of the ball in terms of hitting the line drives
00:07:31you know maybe really hard ground balls with a good exit velocity that'll get you a base hit because it's very frustrating you just hit one on the screws think it's gonna go out of the ballpark and a guy is camped underneath it in front of the warning track
00:07:45slow rolling to first and it goes just foul
00:07:51line to left and it drops in around first D for two throws to second save
00:08:07he quickly went from hitter to base runner love when guys make that transition and he's got speed to put on a show
00:08:17pitch misses inside and that's ball one the crowd here has been fired up even before the first pitch for this series and they'll go crazy right here if they can take an early first inning lead
00:08:33Crespo checks the runner Collins back on a dive Collins the runner at second with one away
00:08:45next offering is in for a strike
00:08:53runner leads away at second and a count one and two
00:09:12and another ball
00:09:14he's not afraid to fall into a two strike count knows the strike zone very well so much so that I think umpires will look at him and determine whether it's a ball or strike
00:09:22if he swings or not
00:09:24and down on strikes
00:09:26two away
00:09:27well he didn't get the call on the mound the pitch before felt like he should have had him looking I think
00:09:32but you know that's good composure right there he found a way to come back with another good pitch to get him to swing and miss
00:09:37Reggie Jackson up next for the A's
00:09:42first offering misses the mark
00:09:48here comes the pitch
00:10:04and now two and nothing
00:10:06well no need to go right at this guy first base is open he can hurt you so make him expand his zone if he doesn't give him a walk
00:10:13left hand hitter waits
00:10:23that misses
00:10:25and it's 3-0
00:10:27appears they're working around him with the base open
00:10:29well you know these 2-0 counts boo they're just not what they used to be and we sound like old guys when I say that but
00:10:35ultimately this is a strategic game and you expect to see this type of approach by the pitcher in this situation
00:10:41so now two on and two outs his ability to draw walks has been something that's been part of his career since day one
00:10:51so first and second with two outs stepping in the long ball threat mark mcguire pitch misses inside and that is ball one
00:11:01first and second two down
00:11:15next pitch misses two balls no strikes the count
00:11:29and here comes
00:11:33in there for a strike at the bottom of the zone
00:11:36Crespo
00:11:37one of the best strikeout pitchers in the game and that certainly is a benefit to him when he's in a spot like this
00:11:43Kicks and deals
00:11:53and fouled off
00:11:55swing and a miss struck him out
00:12:09and that will end the inning
00:12:11a strand a couple scoreless after one
00:12:25and welcome back and here's the first baseman Lou Gehrig
00:12:32yeah if you're gonna be in the game in high leverage situations you've got to be able to get the swing and miss and put hitters away
00:12:39and a pitch
00:12:41there's a strike
00:12:43there's a strikeout
00:12:45there's a strikeout
00:12:46there
00:12:48left-hand batter weights all one there
00:13:00the one-one that one missed goes without saying one of the biggest legends of the game here in
00:13:13garrig probably the greatest first baseman of all time fall off foul
00:13:23swings through that one it's a strikeout and there's one down he came out of his mechanics
00:13:40there typically likes to shoot the ball the other way but that time a little anxious
00:13:57now at the plate Mickey Mantle the year in and year out this guy an MVP candidate
00:14:02and that's just foul in 1929 garrick slash 300 431 584 not too bad right well that was maybe the
00:14:16worst season of his career tells you about what kind of player he was
00:14:20the next offering misses and it's one and one Eric Summersgill our plate umpire
00:14:30one thing to watch out for Boog is what side of the plate Summersgill might be favoring he usually
00:14:36sets up at an angle pitchers sometimes will try to figure that out early so they can attack that
00:14:41spot and get as many strike calls as possible the 1-1 is cut on and missed at a pitch upstairs
00:14:48no score here in the second
00:14:53swing and a miss and he's down on strikes two gone now definitely made him chase a little bit out of
00:15:06the zone right there I don't think that's a strike if he takes it pretty textbook pitching get ahead
00:15:11in the count get the guy in the box on his heels and then force him to chase your pitch where he
00:15:17doesn't have much of a chance to do any damage
00:15:19two outs space is empty and next for New York Roger Mack
00:15:26yeah that's in there for strike one and garrick only drove in 125 runs in that subpar 1929 season
00:15:38this guy was an RBI machine he held the record for career grand slams as well for 75 years
00:15:45the pitch good eye right there
00:15:49and a 1-1
00:15:59there's the swing and a miss he got away with one there but he knows he can't go into that spot
00:16:05very often against a guy like this
00:16:07that hits the dirt now two and two
00:16:17and a pitch
00:16:23and a swing and a miss and that's that
00:16:27one two three go the Yankees
00:16:31we'll go to the bottom in the second
00:16:33no score
00:16:34bottom half of inning number two digging in for Oakland Al Simmons
00:16:47this guy is an elite level hitter especially considering contact just the ability to hit
00:16:54for average what you really like though stays in against those righties and that's not so easy
00:17:00as a right-handed batter
00:17:02next offering is in for a strike it is a quick one two three this time around last inning through a lot of pitches
00:17:18now the third baseman home run baker
00:17:32swung on belted that's back
00:17:46pulls it in on the warning track
00:17:48well off the bat i thought for sure it had enough to get out of here but that wind is kind of blowing in from left and i think that's what made the difference
00:17:56and here's the rookie catcher number two well it's pretty clear that he was frustrated and even he admitted as much with his performance in their last series but now a chance to hit the reset button that's one of the things he's going to have to get used to being the superstar player in this lineup they are going to pitch you very tough and you make the adjustment you can have success i think you'll have it in this one
00:18:20righty delivers that one down the line he takes it himself to the bag and that'll do it a's go quickly and quietly there we'll move to the third with no score
00:18:43top half of the third inning and stepping in for the yankees yogi berry
00:19:04here the right hater back to work there's the strike up high strike one
00:19:13that one lifted to left henderson moving on to this one makes the grab one away
00:19:41the second baseman
00:19:44now batting robinson cano
00:19:48in there for strike one man i mean nice job just presenting it to be better than it actually was
00:20:00in there for strike one man i mean nice job just presenting it to be better than it actually was
00:20:14the next pitch is in the dirt and one and one
00:20:27just missed
00:20:37top of the third no score
00:20:39line drive
00:20:42he dives but can't hang on that's a base hit
00:20:56nice line drive to the pole side met it out front but just stayed through it nice enough and ripped it into the outfield
00:21:02swing and blast one down the line it's gone if it's fair but it hooks foul
00:21:17though that ball is hit pretty hard and sure had home run distance but if you're the pitcher out there on the mound you execute it just a long strike you go after him and finish him off
00:21:32and the old one
00:21:34and a good eye there
00:21:35cano over at first with one away
00:21:39and that one
00:21:42and that one wrapped foul
00:21:46wanted to here and that just misses really good take especially with two strikes
00:21:54and down on strikes he goes and there's two down
00:22:01felt definitely a borderline pitch right there and he didn't look too convinced as he headed back to the dugout
00:22:09you know those are tough ones to let go as a hitter but with the human umpire calling balls and strikes it's always going to be on you to protect yourself with two strikes
00:22:16so the batting order turns over here's the Yankees leadoff hitter Phil he's 0 for 1
00:22:23the other way and a base hit
00:22:28they stop the lead runner at second
00:22:31now two on with two outs
00:22:32now no waiting around right there he was ready to swing it on the first pitch
00:22:40he kind of muscled that one out there didn't get the barrel with it but the important part was that he found a way to stay through the baseball
00:22:46and just drop it into center field
00:22:48so the Yankees leadoff hitter Phil he's 0 for 1
00:22:51the other way and a base hit
00:22:54they stopped the lead runner at second
00:22:56now two on with two outs
00:22:58Stay through the baseball and just drop it into center field.
00:23:01Runner in scoring position now and a good opportunity to push across the first run of the ball game.
00:23:06And now, Joe DiMaggio.
00:23:09That one's in there 0-1.
00:23:11Now, 1-1.
00:23:291-0.
00:23:39So, a foul ball makes it 1-2.
00:23:47Two outs.
00:23:48Couple of base runners at first and second.
00:23:54And that one is lifted in the air.
00:23:56Way back there.
00:23:58Hauls it in on the warning track.
00:24:03Yanks strand a pair.
00:24:04And we're still knotted at zero.
00:24:16Welcome back.
00:24:17Ready to go for the last half of the inning.
00:24:19Striding to the plate now for Oakland.
00:24:21Bert Campanaris.
00:24:23Feels like it's less common today
00:24:25that you see a guy like this.
00:24:27The speed component,
00:24:29the contact component,
00:24:30but lack of power.
00:24:32That's in there.
00:24:33Going along.
00:24:34Bunting for a hit.
00:24:50And foul ball.
00:24:54Going chewed out.
00:24:59And a swing and a miss.
00:25:01And now one away.
00:25:03Tell you what, those are the types of guys pitchers really like to punch out when they're on the mound.
00:25:07Because if they get on,
00:25:08just the distraction that they create with all that speed over on the base pass,
00:25:14it can take away your focus from the next hitter.
00:25:16And that's the last thing you want to do is serve up a pitch that a guy hits over the fence.
00:25:20And it's a multi-run home run.
00:25:23Stepping in,
00:25:24Ricky Henderson.
00:25:26Matt makes the grab.
00:25:27And there's two away.
00:25:33Now back.
00:25:34Second baseman.
00:25:35Eddie.
00:25:37Collins.
00:25:37Eddie Collins.
00:25:39Up next for the A's.
00:25:41Doubled in his first A-B.
00:25:42In there.
00:25:49And it's 0-1.
00:25:50In this situation as the number two hitter.
00:25:53Two out.
00:25:53Nobody on.
00:25:54You want to be a table setter.
00:25:56Work the at-bat.
00:25:56Get deep.
00:25:57Whatever it takes.
00:25:58Get on first base.
00:26:00And the righty deals.
00:26:04Into center and a base hit.
00:26:06Wasting no time.
00:26:13He's two for two now on the night.
00:26:15And just a triple and home run away from the cycle.
00:26:19Seriously, we're starting with this already.
00:26:22Runner at first with two away.
00:26:24And now the first baseman, Jimmy Fox.
00:26:29And that's in there for strike one.
00:26:36Collins leads off first with two down to the inning.
00:26:47And now the count is even.
00:27:01And the right-hander deals.
00:27:04There's a strike.
00:27:04Cold night like tonight.
00:27:06Last thing you want to do as a hitter is get jammed or even off the end.
00:27:10Trying to find that sweet spot.
00:27:11Got him.
00:27:13That ends the inning.
00:27:16The A's strand won.
00:27:18And we are still scoreless.
00:27:19Out of the fourth.
00:27:36In now is the Yankees DH.
00:27:38Babe Ruth.
00:27:40Fair to say he wasn't his typical self in the division series.
00:27:43Chris, I talked to the staff.
00:27:44And they are confident that he's going to deliver big here in the LCS.
00:27:48Yeah, you see these guys around him.
00:27:50And they know he's a stud.
00:27:51And they know it's just a matter of one swing that he breaks out.
00:27:59Bender back to work.
00:28:01That one is upstairs.
00:28:02The pitch.
00:28:18So two balls and no strikes.
00:28:20Well, usually a high level of confidence when you're facing a young pitcher out there on the mound.
00:28:25In this situation, ahead 2-0, he's put himself in a really good spot.
00:28:33And the pitch.
00:28:35On the ground right side.
00:28:39Throw over to Fox.
00:28:40Lead off hitter.
00:28:41Retired in the fourth.
00:28:42Well, he's doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air.
00:28:46Let's the defense work behind him with another ground ball.
00:28:48Good execution.
00:28:49And here is Lou Gehrig.
00:28:52Got to be careful with this guy.
00:28:54He's got power.
00:28:55He can untie it with one swing.
00:29:04Pitch misses inside.
00:29:05Ball one.
00:29:07And Gehrig hit cleanup for that famed Murderers Row lineup.
00:29:10As the Yankees were rolling off one World Series title after another.
00:29:14And a foul ball.
00:29:33And a pitch.
00:29:35That misses the zone.
00:29:36Two and one.
00:29:38Gehrig hit behind Babe Ruth in those Murderers Row days.
00:29:40They both have tons of power, but their home runs had much different trajectories.
00:29:48Ground ball to the middle.
00:29:49That's a base hit.
00:29:58Just kept it simple.
00:29:59Played Pepper with the middle of the infield and took it back where it came from.
00:30:03And there was just no one there to knock it down.
00:30:07Mickey Mantle getting ready to hit.
00:30:090 for 1.
00:30:10He struck out swinging last time.
00:30:15Now a screamer into the outfield.
00:30:19He can't get there.
00:30:20It's a base hit.
00:30:23Lead runner holds at third.
00:30:25So two runners in scoring position and just one out.
00:30:29Didn't take long to get a result for that at bat.
00:30:31Against good pitchers, you've got to take advantage of the mistakes.
00:30:34That was right in his wheelhouse.
00:30:36And he didn't miss a stitch.
00:30:37Calling for the intentional walk, and that loads up the bases.
00:30:52And the force play is now in order.
00:30:55Well, it doesn't get much easier with this next batter, but I totally understand going with the intentional walk in that spot.
00:31:01He's just too dangerous at the plate right now.
00:31:03And there's a base open, so it gives you options defensively to get it out.
00:31:10Berry stands in here, leaves that one off the inside.
00:31:13I think ultimately you want to tie him up, get the ball in on the plate so that he can't get the barrel to it and hit it to the outfield.
00:31:20Swing and a miss, and a count even at one.
00:31:41Base hit, one run in already.
00:31:43The throw home.
00:31:45Safe at the plate.
00:31:47And they lead by two.
00:31:48Well, there you go.
00:31:50The RBI machine.
00:31:52Another clutch run scoring it back.
00:31:55Yeah, he's been so good in these situations.
00:31:58Call it clutch if you want, but his resume speaks for itself.
00:32:02Now it's the second baseman.
00:32:03Robinson Cano.
00:32:05One for one with a single so far.
00:32:10Pitch misses inside, and it's one and oh.
00:32:12Matt, at second, Berry, over at first, so going away.
00:32:29Next offering is in for a strike.
00:32:32Getting a little frustrated with the strike zone.
00:32:38Next offering upstairs.
00:32:40Right hander kicks deals, and it's found away.
00:32:58And it's filled up.
00:33:13Clearly didn't come out of his hand the right way.
00:33:16Left that curveball way up.
00:33:17Three-two.
00:33:35Right side, hard hit.
00:33:36Nice grab.
00:33:38Off-balance feed.
00:33:39There's one.
00:33:39What a double play that was.
00:33:42Inning over.
00:33:43Well, the second baseman made that one look easy.
00:33:45Great feed to the shortstop.
00:33:47Shortstop completes the play.
00:33:48They get out of a jam, and they end the inning.
00:33:51I'll put my words to stay.
00:33:52I'll find out why my people are trying to reach out with it.
00:33:55Boxing for this, you know.
00:33:56Pounce if you want to just pass and pass.
00:34:00Back in Oakland, John Chomby and Chris Singleton with you.
00:34:03And leading off the bottom of the fourth, Reggie Jackson.
00:34:07Reggie Jackson.
00:34:09Reggie Jackson.
00:34:21The line of the pitch.
00:34:24Ball one, no strikes.
00:34:26Well, after putting up a nice inning on offense, got some runs across,
00:34:29this is where you look for the starter to go out there, have a shutdown inning.
00:34:33Don't give that other team any hope.
00:34:35You just hope that they can get through this inning,
00:34:37get the bats back up there while they're hot.
00:34:392-0.
00:34:45Misses with the 2-0, and he's fired three straight outside the strike zone.
00:34:50The wind of the pitch.
00:34:57Breaking ball in there for a strike.
00:35:03And the right-handers 3-1.
00:35:06And he wants him.
00:35:09Well, you know this guy wants to swing it, but he's showing some good patience in this one.
00:35:13And it's the second time he's taking ball four.
00:35:17Mark McGuire up next for the A's.
00:35:19The next pitch misses.
00:35:22The next pitch misses, now 2-0.
00:35:52Rutter at first with no outs here.
00:36:04In the air, left field, down the line.
00:36:09Mantle makes the play, and there's one away.
00:36:16The center fielder, number 7.
00:36:19Al Simmons.
00:36:27Next up for the A's, Al Simmons.
00:36:29First pitch, and that's in for a strike.
00:36:43Belly's been incredibly efficient in this one.
00:36:45First pitch strike percentage over 70%.
00:36:47That's well above league average, and that's what's allowed him to pitch well up into this point.
00:36:52Crespo picks over, and he's back in there.
00:36:55Kicks and fires.
00:37:08There's a strike.
00:37:09Don't play situation here.
00:37:10He's been working up in the zone.
00:37:12Typically, you look for guys to get that ground ball.
00:37:14See if he adjusts on this next pitch.
00:37:16Out into left center for a line drive.
00:37:30Base in.
00:37:32The throw to third.
00:37:33Not in time.
00:37:35He's safe.
00:37:35Digging in for Oakland.
00:37:41Home run, Baker.
00:37:430-1 with a fly-out.
00:37:47That one's in there, 0-1.
00:37:48First and third.
00:37:59One down.
00:38:05And he's down 0-2 as he swings through it.
00:38:08Big pitch right here.
00:38:09He's going to try to make a pitch.
00:38:10It's going to produce a strikeout or a ground ball double play.
00:38:13Next offering upstairs.
00:38:27He really committed to that fastball up at the top of the zone.
00:38:31He knows that if he makes a mistake in the zone, it gets hit hard by a power guy like this.
00:38:36Off-balance feed.
00:38:37There's one.
00:38:38Back to the pitcher covering.
00:38:39It's a double play.
00:38:41Nicely done, and that'll do it.
00:38:42On to the top of the fifth we go.
00:38:45It's the Yankees 2, and the A's nothing.
00:38:56Back here in the East Bay.
00:38:58Ready now for the fifth inning.
00:38:59And stepping in for the Yankees, Greg Nettles.
00:39:03The right-hander back to work.
00:39:14That misses off the outside edge.
00:39:26Next offering is in for a strike.
00:39:28At the belt and fires.
00:39:39Swing and a pop-off in foul ground.
00:39:43He makes the grab, and there's one down.
00:39:45That was a good, hard fastball with some nice ride up in the zone right there.
00:39:50Hitter looked like he was on it, but I think that velocity at the end just beat him.
00:39:55Instead of a line drive or something hit deep, it's a pop-off and an easy out for the defense.
00:40:00Now here is Phil Random.
00:40:10Now a drag bunt, third base side.
00:40:13Oh, can't pick it up cleanly.
00:40:15He decides to eat it, and they catch a break as they get a base runner at first.
00:40:19This was the perfect spot to drop the bunt for a hit.
00:40:23I mean, he used his bat as a tool up there to direct the ball exactly where he wanted it to go
00:40:28and look smooth doing it at the same time.
00:40:31Really well done.
00:40:32And the defense right there stood no chance.
00:40:40Joe DiMaggio stepping in now for the Yankees.
00:40:43First offering, and it just misses.
00:40:58Random leads off first with one away.
00:41:06Next offering is in for a strike.
00:41:09That's a great take right there.
00:41:10Even though it's a strike, with the situation, runner on first base,
00:41:14you want to keep the ball off the ground.
00:41:15And you swing at that pitch, most likely you roll into a double play.
00:41:24Right into the plate.
00:41:26That's in there.
00:41:27That strike two.
00:41:28That strike two.
00:41:40And now, two and two.
00:41:53A two-two.
00:41:55Got him.
00:41:56And there's two down.
00:42:00No, just couldn't pull the trigger on the fastball right there.
00:42:02And I don't think he was taking it, thinking it might be a called ball or anything.
00:42:06I just think he was flat out frozen.
00:42:08Did not expect that location, in my opinion.
00:42:12Next is the designated hitter, Babe Ruth.
00:42:14In there for strike one.
00:42:23In there for strike one.
00:42:23And that gets the top of the zone for a strike.
00:42:43Perhaps not quite ready to hit.
00:42:45First two pitches by him for a couple of strikes.
00:42:49Now back is against the wall.
00:42:50It's going to have to figure something out and figure it out quickly.
00:42:52The pitch.
00:42:55And that's outside.
00:42:56Rarely will you see a pitcher just waste a pitch like that.
00:42:59The batter wasn't even tempted to swing.
00:43:01Every pitch needs to have a purpose so that it can set up a following pitch to help you get that out.
00:43:10Left-hand hitter waits.
00:43:13Bounced up the middle.
00:43:14Got him on the off-balance throw.
00:43:17And that is that.
00:43:19One left for the Yankees.
00:43:20They're up two-nothing.
00:43:22We head to the bottom of the fifth.
00:43:34And now it's going to be number two.
00:43:37The catcher.
00:43:38Hawaii to kick the pitch.
00:43:44That one off the mark.
00:43:45One and oh.
00:43:53Good eye right there.
00:43:55On the ground to the left.
00:44:04Random picks it up.
00:44:06Over to first.
00:44:07And the leadoff man set down in their half of the fifth.
00:44:11Now batter.
00:44:13Not shortstop.
00:44:14Burt Campanaris.
00:44:17Burt Campanaris.
00:44:18Up next for the A's.
00:44:21Chris, his skill set straight out of the mid-80s.
00:44:23Good contact.
00:44:24Not much power.
00:44:26And he could run.
00:44:27He always uses the wheels to his advantage.
00:44:30His biggest challenge in this day and age is to not get caught up in trying to hit home runs.
00:44:35Because so many people are.
00:44:36Next offering is in for a strike.
00:44:42I think baseball is starting to understand that those guys are valuable like they once were.
00:44:47They need them in this game today.
00:44:48And he hits a ground ball right side.
00:44:52Sends it to first.
00:44:54Home half of the fifth inning moving along.
00:44:56Two quick outs.
00:45:03So the Oakland lineup turns over.
00:45:06Ricky Henderson.
00:45:07Up next for the A's.
00:45:08Let him know that you're bad.
00:45:12Let him know that you're bad.
00:45:15Let him know that you're bad.
00:45:16Let him know that you're bad.
00:45:18And the first pitch misses for a ball one.
00:45:31Here's a strike.
00:45:37Ball to strike.
00:45:40Ball to.
00:45:48And that's in for a strike.
00:45:52Now this offense has just been locked down.
00:45:54Almost five full innings of shutout baseball.
00:45:58The pitch.
00:46:02That one misses.
00:46:03And it's a full count.
00:46:05And he deals.
00:46:15Fouled off again.
00:46:16And it remains three and two.
00:46:24Three-two on the way.
00:46:25And a swing and a miss.
00:46:29Down on strikes.
00:46:31And that will end the inning.
00:46:32And one, two, three.
00:46:33Go the A's.
00:46:35And they're down two-nothing.
00:46:43Back here at the ballpark.
00:46:44All set for the start of the inning.
00:46:46Here's a big power threat.
00:46:47Lou Gehrig.
00:46:48And here it comes.
00:46:56That clips the corner.
00:46:57Well, they say it's the best pitch in baseball.
00:46:59Strike one.
00:47:00You get ahead.
00:47:00Only good hitter as well.
00:47:02Gives a little bit more confidence to move through the at-bat.
00:47:04Oh, and two as he waves at that one.
00:47:17Really consistent release point.
00:47:19He's been able to pitch up and down and have excellent command at both locations.
00:47:29Righty delivers.
00:47:31Pitch misses.
00:47:32And a count one and two.
00:47:34Kicks and deals.
00:47:49Next offering misses down and away.
00:47:58And a pitch.
00:48:01Garrett tries to check his swing.
00:48:03Now a look to third.
00:48:05And he held up.
00:48:12Right through there.
00:48:14Got him.
00:48:14So he's gotten deep into this game.
00:48:17And at least so far, not showing a ton of signs of fatigue.
00:48:29And up next for New York, Mickey Mantle.
00:48:38Check swing, but he went too far.
00:48:41Strike one.
00:48:42One down, base is empty.
00:48:55One down, base is empty.
00:49:00Well, you can't really adjust your game plan for that last pitch.
00:49:02Guy hasn't thrown it very much.
00:49:04You got to focus on the stuff that he's throwing up there most of the time.
00:49:06Swing and a miss.
00:49:07Swing and a miss.
00:49:10And he struck him out.
00:49:12That's out number two.
00:49:13Well, that's such a critical pitch in terms of execution right there.
00:49:16The pitcher has to finish it.
00:49:18Otherwise, it probably gets hit pretty hard.
00:49:20If you leave that out over the plate or you don't get it down enough, quickly turns into something that gets smoked.
00:49:25But if you can place it where he did, it's a really deceptive pitch.
00:49:30Roger Mack stepping in now for the Yankees.
00:49:33And what a two-way player.
00:49:35Not just offensively, but as good a defensive outfielder as there is in the game.
00:49:39Not just offensively, but as good a defensive outfielder as there is in the game.
00:49:52And now two and nothing.
00:50:02Two outs.
00:50:04And a foul ball.
00:50:09The pitch.
00:50:20Now one foul off.
00:50:21Two and two.
00:50:34Two down.
00:50:35Nobody on.
00:50:36Right side.
00:50:37And it goes just foul.
00:50:51Next offering is foul back.
00:50:53Two-two now.
00:51:05Swing and a miss.
00:51:07Struck him out.
00:51:08And that is that.
00:51:09Two, three, four.
00:51:10Two up in the home half of the six.
00:51:12It's the Yankees two and the A's nothing.
00:51:15One, two, one, two.
00:51:16That was a zip code.
00:51:17December 27 was the birth of the canine of the men.
00:51:22Welcome back.
00:51:22Well, we go bottom six.
00:51:24And stepping in is the speedy Eddie Collins.
00:51:27Well, these fans definitely want to get involved in the game.
00:51:32All it's going to take is to get the leadoff man or even a base runner on.
00:51:37And a strike in there.
00:51:38It's good speed at the top of the order here.
00:51:40You want to get it on.
00:51:41See if you can get a stolen base.
00:51:42Maybe get around the bases and pick up a run.
00:51:45Next one off the plate inside.
00:51:54One and one.
00:52:00And that's in for a strike.
00:52:06And a pitch.
00:52:09That one inside.
00:52:11It's two and two.
00:52:15And the righty deals.
00:52:19Bounce to the right.
00:52:21Cano gloves it.
00:52:22Gathers and throws to first.
00:52:25One away.
00:52:25Bottom of the sixth.
00:52:27The first baseman, number three.
00:52:29Jimmy Fox.
00:52:32Jimmy Fox up next for the A's.
00:52:45First pitch.
00:52:49Just misses.
00:52:50If you're on the mound right now, you know you have to retire this hitter.
00:52:54If he gets on base, it could open up the floodgates for this offense to score some runs.
00:53:01That one ripped.
00:53:03Squeezes it.
00:53:04And there are two outs.
00:53:06Man, that's one of those at-bats where you have to remind yourself it's about the process.
00:53:11He did everything right right there.
00:53:12Nothing to show for it, but in your mind, you have to convince yourself that it was a very good at-bat.
00:53:19Reggie Jackson up next for the A's.
00:53:28Lined, and that's a base hit.
00:53:30And that extends the inning.
00:53:31So, Singy, let's dive into the numbers, courtesy of StatCast.
00:53:39Do you even feel contact being made when you hit a ball that hard?
00:53:43No, I don't think so, Boog.
00:53:44I mean, that's just the best feeling in the world as a hitter.
00:53:47You square it up perfectly, and it's like you didn't even swing the bat.
00:53:51There are times the ball feels heavy off your bat.
00:53:53You know it, but this is not one of those cases.
00:53:56He sent this one flying 114 miles per hour, so that's flexing your muscles a little bit.
00:54:01Maguire in the box again.
00:54:09Takes the strike.
00:54:14The 0-1.
00:54:16Ball won there.
00:54:17Here's a 1-1.
00:54:35Reggie on the run.
00:54:37Pitch misses.
00:54:39Bobbles the transfer.
00:54:40No throw.
00:54:41Next offering misses, and the count is 3-1.
00:55:01Jackson on its second with two down.
00:55:03Line drive, base hit.
00:55:13Reggie chugging around third.
00:55:16Throw home.
00:55:17Not in time.
00:55:18The run scores.
00:55:20And they trail by one.
00:55:22A couple of hits in a row for him here.
00:55:23That pretty much split the zone down the middle, and those are the ones where you've got to make a pay.
00:55:28So, up next, Al Simmons.
00:55:35The center field is number 7.
00:55:39Al Simmons.
00:55:39First pitch doesn't find the zone.
00:55:42But with the tie-in run at first base, he's looking for something he can get a lot of barrel on.
00:55:46Drive it into a gap and score that run from first base.
00:55:48The pitch.
00:55:59Swing and a miss.
00:56:01And a count one and a one.
00:56:09Late swing.
00:56:11Fouled off.
00:56:11And a right-hater deals.
00:56:25Got him.
00:56:26And that's the inning.
00:56:28So, one run in the inning on this base hit, and it's now a 2-1 ball game.
00:56:33New inning getting started.
00:56:46Here's the power-hitting catcher, Yogi Berry.
00:56:50The catcher.
00:56:51Yogi Berry.
00:56:56Bender back to work.
00:56:58This one blasted the other way, down the line, and it's a foul ball.
00:57:14Here's the 0-1.
00:57:18Oakland's bullpen has some movement.
00:57:20Number 13.
00:57:21The left-handed reliever appears to be getting loose.
00:57:231-1 now.
00:57:36And that one fouled off.
00:57:48Here comes the pitch.
00:57:51Just missed.
00:57:53Left-hand batter waits.
00:58:01Lifted in the air.
00:58:03Right field.
00:58:04No trouble here.
00:58:06Puts it away for the out.
00:58:07And there's one down.
00:58:09Maybe caught that one off the end just a little bit.
00:58:11Couldn't quite barrel it up enough to really drive it.
00:58:14So, digging in.
00:58:15Robinson Cano.
00:58:16And first offering is fouled off.
00:58:40And that's downstairs and outside.
00:58:55The 1-1.
00:59:12And there's a ball.
00:59:13Good eye on that spot.
00:59:25This is a really good feeling for a hitter.
00:59:27At this point in the ball game, you know that they don't want to walk you.
00:59:31So, you're going to get a pitch to hit.
00:59:32You just better not miss it.
00:59:33And that one ripped in to right.
00:59:42And a base hit.
00:59:44So, they get a man aboard with a one-out single.
00:59:46Well, when you fall behind in the count, you've got to come into the zone.
00:59:50And then guys have a better chance of hitting the ball hard like you did right there.
00:59:55Here comes the skipper.
00:59:59And we're going to see a pitching change in this spot.
01:00:02Charles Bender out of the game.
01:00:04And he leaves in a one-run game.
01:00:06New pitcher coming on.
01:00:07We'll be back in a minute.
01:00:08Dave Stewart gets the call from the pen.
01:00:23And this guy can bring it velocity-wise.
01:00:25Number 37, Dave Stewart.
01:00:38Greg Nettles stepping in now for the Yankees.
01:00:45Next pitch downstairs.
01:00:48Ball one.
01:01:05Hammered.
01:01:05Base hit.
01:01:08Relay throw to third.
01:01:11He's in there.
01:01:14These guys today are so great with handling velocity.
01:01:16They're seeing high speeds day after day.
01:01:19And a nice job of turning that one around.
01:01:28So, the lineup flips over.
01:01:31And next for New York, Phil Random.
01:01:33And that one fouled off.
01:01:41Don't be surprised to ball on the ground to the corners that they come home with the baseball instead of going to first base.
01:01:47Grounded to third.
01:01:59Could be two.
01:02:00Fired to second.
01:02:01Double play.
01:02:02And that'll do it for the unit.
01:02:04Well, we can never overstate it.
01:02:06Pitcher's best friend right there.
01:02:08Double play.
01:02:09Gets out of the jam.
01:02:10Saves some pitches.
01:02:11Bottom of the inning.
01:02:23And now, here is home run Baker.
01:02:26You know, this guy's great speed is in the back of that pitcher's mind.
01:02:31If he can get on, it's going to give him one more thing he's got to think about.
01:02:35First offering misses the mark.
01:02:37Activity in the bullpen for the Yankees.
01:02:39Goose Gossage preparing to come on if needed.
01:02:42Skeeter, the lefty, warming up as well.
01:02:45The tying run at the plate.
01:02:52And there's a foul ball.
01:03:03Next offering is in for a strike.
01:03:06Well, I'm impressed with that challenge pitch right there.
01:03:08Even with this slim lead, this guy's not afraid to go right after these hitters.
01:03:13He swings and fouls one off.
01:03:15Fastball, and he gets out of the way.
01:03:38Cut on and miss.
01:03:39Struck him out.
01:03:40And one away.
01:03:42A big first out here in the seventh via the punch out.
01:03:46Yeah, it just does so much to change the outlook of an important inning like this.
01:03:50When you've got the leadoff hitter so critical in setting the table when you've got a tight game like this.
01:03:55So a strikeout really puts them on their heels.
01:03:57It's not because you made it out of balls or less.
01:04:06Foul ball there.
01:04:07The pitch.
01:04:29Stays alive.
01:04:33Next one just misses.
01:04:46Going to count one and two.
01:04:47One, two, two.
01:04:53Swing and a miss.
01:04:54Struck him out.
01:04:55Two away.
01:04:56Back-to-back strikeouts to start the frame, and that's now three in a row.
01:05:03Yeah, he's really settling in and getting a feel for his pitches, throwing them where he wants to right now.
01:05:08So we'll see how long he can keep this streak going.
01:05:20And first off ring is fouled off.
01:05:29Right-hander kicks deals.
01:05:32That one drifts inside.
01:05:34Trying to keep good speed off the bases.
01:05:37That one-to-one.
01:05:41And he lays down a bunt.
01:05:43And he picks it up, and he'll put it in his pocket.
01:05:46And a one-two.
01:05:59Out towards left center.
01:06:02And that will fall.
01:06:04And that puts the tying run on base.
01:06:07That ball right there landed in what they call a no-man's land, meaning it's not really a spot on the field where you can expect anyone to get to it easily.
01:06:15I mean, it's a tough play going back for the shortstop, but also for the outfielders trying to come in.
01:06:20They've got to go a long way as well.
01:06:21And now they've got some speed on first, so we'll see if they try to get him into motion.
01:06:25And here comes the Yankees manager to the mound.
01:06:28Pitching change coming.
01:06:29Jack Crespo gives way, and as he heads for the dugout, we'll take a quick break.
01:06:34New arm on the mound when we get back.
01:06:40New pitcher for the Yankees.
01:06:42Wade Popp trying to protect this league.
01:06:45And now here's a speed threat.
01:07:00Outfielder Ricky Henderson.
01:07:07In there, and it's all in one.
01:07:09Big situation right here.
01:07:10You've got some speed over there at first base.
01:07:12He represents the tying run.
01:07:13The question is, do you send him and get him in the scoring position,
01:07:17or do you let that batter swing and maybe put you ahead?
01:07:22The 0-1.
01:07:24And it's strike two with a single base runner because of all the power.
01:07:28They are dangerous to tie this thing up or take the lead.
01:07:37Next pitch misses.
01:07:39Yeah, the count one and two.
01:07:40That's a really good job of laying off the 0-2 high fastball.
01:07:44It's going to make that pitcher really have to respect this hitter,
01:07:47even though he's behind in the count.
01:07:49Pickoff throw.
01:07:50Campanaris dives back in safely.
01:07:53off the first with two away.
01:08:01And a pitch.
01:08:03Whoa!
01:08:03Damn!
01:08:12Campanaris off the first with two away.
01:08:14Here comes a 2-2.
01:08:31Run around the goal.
01:08:33Down the line towards the corner.
01:08:35Mack towards the line.
01:08:37And that'll do it.
01:08:38One left for Oakland.
01:08:40They're down.
01:08:412-1.
01:08:42And welcome back.
01:08:49From the top of the eight and stepping in for the Yankees,
01:08:52Joe DiMaggio.
01:08:53The center field.
01:08:55Joe!
01:08:56The line of the pitch.
01:08:59That one finds a corner.
01:09:01That's strike one.
01:09:02Well, now that this is a bullpen game,
01:09:04it's clear that whichever bullpen steps up the most
01:09:07is likely going to come away with the W.
01:09:10Comes up empty on the swing.
01:09:120-2 now.
01:09:14From a pitcher's perspective,
01:09:15that's a beautiful splitter right there.
01:09:18As a hitter, you don't like it.
01:09:19But he's commanded his fastball out of that same tunnel.
01:09:22That splitter comes and the bottom just falls out of it.
01:09:26The punch out there.
01:09:27And one out now.
01:09:29Pretty big strikeout right there to start this eighth inning.
01:09:32Down one.
01:09:33Any leadoff base runner really makes this inning a bit more interesting.
01:09:37But now this offense has to switch from possibly trying to manufacture a run
01:09:41to needing to run into something
01:09:42or just try to string multiple hits together
01:09:44to get a run across the plate.
01:09:50Ripped towards third.
01:09:51And a base hit.
01:09:53So Amanda Borden now and one away.
01:09:58No, that started and ended pretty quickly.
01:10:00No messing around right there.
01:10:01Just a cookie down the middle.
01:10:03I mean, those are the ones you dream about.
01:10:04Ones in the cage you're just hoping you get in the ball game.
01:10:07Right down the middle, not a whole lot of velocity.
01:10:09Right on top of it.
01:10:11Lou Gehrig stepping in now for the Yankees.
01:10:14Got to be careful with a slugger like this
01:10:16because he can turn it into a three-run game in the blink of an eye.
01:10:27And that's in there for strike one.
01:10:37One run game, one out, one on.
01:10:41Next pitch is outside.
01:10:47And the count is one and one.
01:11:00At the belt and fires.
01:11:02That one out to right.
01:11:04Jackson drifts towards it.
01:11:06Puts the squeeze on that one.
01:11:09And there are two down.
01:11:10Now back, left fielder.
01:11:17Here's the left fielder, Mickey Mantle.
01:11:20Well, both sides equally as strong.
01:11:23So not a good time to try to turn him around with a relief pitcher
01:11:27and put him on the other side of the plate.
01:11:29Next offering is down low.
01:11:33And that's ball one.
01:11:44Upstairs.
01:11:44He's been raking in recent games and a big reason why getting ahead and counts.
01:11:50He's been able to do that consistently.
01:11:52And you see the results.
01:11:57Next one misses.
01:11:59They're now 3-0.
01:12:00Hit on the ground to the right side.
01:12:17Fox takes it himself.
01:12:19And that'll do it.
01:12:20The Yanks lead one.
01:12:21But they still lead it 2-1.
01:12:23Ready for the bottom of the eighth.
01:12:35Striding to the plate now for Oakland.
01:12:37Eddie Collins.
01:12:39If you don't get ahead in the count,
01:12:41you can forget about having any success against him.
01:12:45And a pitch.
01:12:49And a bunt towards third.
01:12:50And he grabs it.
01:12:53Foul.
01:12:57The 0-1.
01:13:02Action in the pen down there.
01:13:04Mariano Rivera getting ready to go.
01:13:14The line of the pitch.
01:13:18And ball one.
01:13:19And that's awfully close.
01:13:21I don't know how you take that.
01:13:22He's seeing the ball out of the pitcher's hand really well right now.
01:13:25This one lifted in the air.
01:13:48Left field.
01:13:50Mantle puts the squeeze on that one.
01:13:52And there's one down.
01:13:53The first baseman, number three.
01:13:57Jimmy.
01:13:59Jimmy Fox.
01:14:00Up next for the A's.
01:14:02Well, he's always a threat.
01:14:04Even if this guy is 0-3 for the night with three strikeouts,
01:14:07he can come up that fourth time and do damage because he's that good.
01:14:12Now this one's crushed down the line.
01:14:14Hooking.
01:14:15Foul ball.
01:14:16Oh, man.
01:14:17That stays fair.
01:14:19We got a new ball game.
01:14:20Great swing.
01:14:22Just couldn't keep it between the lines.
01:14:24He's got to try to bottle that.
01:14:25Do it again.
01:14:27Next pitch is inside.
01:14:28And that's ball one.
01:14:29Brydie.
01:14:30Brydie to the plate.
01:14:38Slapped foul.
01:14:41And that's a ball game.
01:14:43Rhyde to the plate.
01:14:45Rhyde to the plate.
01:14:46Slapped foul.
01:14:47looking to get the tying run on base got him looking out number two they've had a great
01:15:09plan of attack for him tonight i mean finding all the holes in his swing and his approach just
01:15:14frustrating for him up there you strike out a guy three times in a game i think that guy's got to go
01:15:19back and really study some video with his hitting coach figure out how they're beating him make this
01:15:24adjustment really quick because word will get around the league in a hurry
01:15:29goose gossage on the pitch out of the pennier he's into the game but the base is empty
01:15:44now it's the right fielder reggie jackson
01:15:55first pitch and that's in for a strike
01:16:06to third play made that ends the inning and the a's are gone in order and our score remains
01:16:202-1 we're back and on the mound is the closer dennis eckersley it's his job to keep his team in the game
01:16:37we're back and stepping in for the yankees roger meck
01:16:47roger meck
01:16:49the line to kick the pitch slider clips the zone
01:16:53and that's just foul
01:17:13and down on strikes one out third time he struck out in this one and definitely an individual
01:17:20performance you want to flush he just hasn't looked very comfortable up there just one of those days
01:17:25but when you're still winning the ball game at least you can focus on doing your part to maintain
01:17:29that lead getting that w and here's the catcher yogi berry
01:17:38and the first pitch misses for ball one
01:17:40one run game here in the top of the ninth
01:17:54and there's the strike let's see if he's willing to use the whole field right here definitely pounding him away
01:17:59here's a one one
01:18:11and downstairs
01:18:16kicks and fires
01:18:20oh now this is blasted way back there on its way gone
01:18:29a towering shot to right and they add to their lead it's 3-1
01:18:46well i'm sure there's a big grin on his face right now boog he's probably had some of those that didn't
01:18:51stay fair but off the bat it looked like it was going to bend foul was able to keep it in there tucked
01:18:56it nicely and he gets the jog around the base is good for him
01:19:00next to hit robinson cano in there for strike one
01:19:19that's through there for a strike well he's gotten ahead with two pitches down in the zone he has plenty
01:19:24of options right here he can go up he can go away he can add velocity he can subtract
01:19:40ripped on a line he makes the catch and there's two down not fold at all right there he was clearly
01:19:46all over it but sometimes you hit it too hard and right at someone you're looking for one of those
01:19:52loop hits to get a knock sometimes here's the third baseman greg nettles
01:19:57high fly ball out to center field simmons under this one makes the catch and that is that
01:20:11the yanks do get one on the solo homer and this is now a three one ball game
01:20:27back now as they hand the ball to a fresh arm to start the bottom of the ninth mariano rivera
01:20:37and he'll work on holding this lead
01:20:39back here in the east bay last chance for the home team here's some real power at the plate mark mcguire
01:20:59and a pitch line drive and that should be extra bases and that one's gonna get into the corner
01:21:07makes the turn and heads for second in there he's safe well that may end up being an at bat we go
01:21:14back to later on when this game is over a well-deserved double on a great swing got everything going on
01:21:20time the state balance and squared it up about as well as you could possibly ask and you can feel this
01:21:25crowd waking up a bit here as the guys are starting to make some noise with their bats
01:21:29that one's in their own one hey look we'll see how it factors in i just can't emphasize how much
01:21:46that insurance run in the top of the ninth means i mean just such a big difference mentally when
01:21:51you're chasing two runs instead of one
01:21:59the oh one just off the inside edge lots of anxious fans in the ballpark right now you can feel it
01:22:07the pitch that one misses and it's two and one
01:22:24go
01:22:32mcguire stands at second with no outs
01:22:35this one popped up foul ground first base side and he makes the grab and there's one away
01:22:49next up for the a's home run baker listen there's absolutely no reason to pitch to this guy right
01:23:04here you nibble you see if he'll expand his zone but don't give him anything to hit you want them
01:23:10not a big deal you have a double play opportunity setup
01:23:13swings through that one 0-1 good pitch right there anytime you can get one by a bat of this
01:23:29caliber especially with runners on it's got to give you some confidence out there on the mound
01:23:33that you can win this battle into center dimaggio settles underneath it makes the grab two down
01:23:40number two up next for the a's
01:23:51first offering and it just misses
01:24:06there's a strike
01:24:18and a 1-1 and now 2-1 after that missed inside definitely a swing and miss slider down and in he
01:24:35finished that really well just couldn't get him to offer at it
01:24:39the next offering misses and now 3-1 big pitch coming right here last thing he wants to do is
01:24:51put the tie and run on base but he can't groove one either
01:24:54and now a full count
01:25:07three ball two run game a two away here in the bottom of the ninth
01:25:13that one pushed foul out of play off to the left
01:25:24and a 3-2 and ball four to a board
01:25:38they're not ready to go home quite yet
01:25:41these home fans they are making a lot of noise putting pressure on that pitcher out there
01:25:49at the plate
01:25:51at the plate
01:25:51you got the number nine hole hitter right here looking to do whatever he can to get on base
01:25:56turn this lineup over so the best hitters in this lineup have a chance to tie up the ball game or maybe even walk it off
01:26:02and that's in there for strike one
01:26:08good eye right there
01:26:22this is the guy they turn to to get the most important outs of the ball game but
01:26:26they're gonna make him work to get this save
01:26:28a 1-1
01:26:40it's a big opportunity right here but i love the way he's slowing the game down
01:26:47he's shrinking his zone making sure he gets the pitch that he wants to hit
01:26:51and he deals
01:26:57fouls one off
01:26:59two and two
01:27:00well he knows they don't want to give him anything to hit
01:27:04but when you've got opportunities to drive in runs
01:27:06you've got to expand the zone
01:27:08he's capable of going out there and doing damage with it
01:27:11out to short
01:27:16and that'll do it
01:27:18great pitchers duel in this one you get to a certain point where
01:27:24each pitcher is trying to outdo the other go a little bit deeper into the ball game and
01:27:29for these guys it really came down to a few key at bats this was a fun one to watch
01:27:34not a ton of offense to chat about as we look at the final numbers but this was a good one
01:27:49yeah it was a low scoring game move but sometimes those can be the best especially this time of year
01:27:54and your final 3-1 for chris singleton and our entire crew here at mlb the show
