00:00But how about this? We have updates here on Terry McLaurin. Yesterday, some breaking news
00:04from Adam Schefter, and it reads, from holdout to apparent hold-in, Commander's wide receiver
00:08Terry McLaurin was spotted at the team's training facility Saturday for sources. McLaurin arrived
00:12without a new deal, but with some sort of an ankle injury. Washington now is expected to place
00:17McLaurin on the active, physically unable to perform list. As a holdout, McLaurin was racking
00:21up $50,000 a day in fines and training on his own. As a hold-in, he can't be fined $50,000 per day,
00:27and he's around the team. Second part of that tweet here coming in, Terry McLaurin reporting
00:31back to the Commander should not be confused with progress on a deal. The two sides remain apart
00:36on a contract and will continue discussions aimed at a new deal. The $50,000 a day fines for McLaurin
00:42have come to an end. The contract impasse has not. So I think many people, Joe, right, saw like, hey,
00:46he's extending the olive branch. They're really close to a new contract. That's not what it is.
00:50I want to start here with this. I would always hold in, Joe. Show up, put a t-shirt on, do not
00:56practice, but it saves you $50,000 a day. Well, ultimately, yes, that's what it is. But I think
01:03it's twofold here. I think having him around and a part of the team, whether he is physically
01:11unable to perform or not, which he's not going to be practicing in any way, shape, or form, but he
01:16will be around the team. I'm always a big believer with that aside, out of mind, right, Donnie? So even
01:22when you're trying to get a new deal, unless you're the quarterback, nobody really care. Eventually,
01:28you will be forgotten as camp goes on. You'll cost yourself nothing but money. This way, you're there.
01:35You're not being a distraction. You're being a team player. You're not participating, but you're not
01:39losing $50,000 a day either. I think it's actually beneficial for him to be around the team trying to
01:46get a deal done as opposed to being in another state somewhere. It's like FOMO, right? Fear of
01:52missing out on that because they're your boys. They're working. You know you should be there,
01:57but you have to get your money and everybody, nobody's going to pocket watch and all would
02:00support Terry McLaurin. It's been a great team that they all love him in that locker room. But just the
02:04fact that, hey, new players are going in or the fear of being like Wally Pipped out there, right,
02:09where somebody would take your job. Not to say somebody would take McLaurin's job, but excelling
02:12athletes. They always have that fear factor where I need to be out there. I need to be performing at
02:17my best. I need to be with my guys and what am I missing out on? Even though you're supposed to
02:20get paid and he will rightfully get paid. But also understand this. It does feel to me a little bit
02:24interesting like, oh, well, he's going into his year number 30 in the NFL season. And it's like,
02:29okay, well, he's 30 years old, 31. You have a quarterback on a rookie deal. You're expecting after
02:34making an NFC championship run last year to possibly do the same. You would think that you would need
02:39one of your biggest supporters in the locker room and one of your biggest
02:42talents in the locker room to be happy entering into the season. And we always know how this starts
02:46out. When you sit out, you don't build those calluses up. What I mean by that is the constant
02:50reps, the constant rotations. You can work out, Joe, all you want on your own. It's never going
02:55to simulate being in camp situations going against top end talent where they, oh, here comes the ankle
03:00injury, which he does have now. Here comes the hamstring. Here comes the calf at this point.
03:03Is there a reason why they're basically holding court with McLaurin and saying, we're not going to pay
03:08you? Like if there's any guy to pay, wouldn't it be McLaurin on this team?
03:11Well, you would think, but again, there's really no, you know, owners don't do anything unless
03:18they're leveraged into a spot where they have to do anything. Right. So this is always going to be
03:23a battle of wills, right? Will, will McLaurin and his camp and his agent, will they, are they willing
03:31to continue to push the envelope as we get closer to the start of the season and hold out? And once
03:37again, you're under, it's not like he's not under contract. It was not like a free agent trying to
03:42make the team. Like, so at some point it's going to be a battle of wills. Does he mean enough to
03:48this team where ownership and the coaching staff's like, Hey, listen, can we please get this guy in
03:53here and get it going? It really, right now it's a staring contest and we're going to see who blinks
03:58first here. Is it McLaurin or is it the ownership? Now they're going to say also like, well, we play
04:04the giants week number one at home. We don't need Terry McLaurin. So we can get a better possible
04:08deal. If he doesn't show up in camping time, then they go on the road and take on the green Bay
04:11Packers, but they have the Vegas Raiders at home after that. Like you want everybody pulling in the
04:15same direction. The vibes were so good last year with Washington. Hey, look at this. You got a
04:20quarterback. He went on the road and won his first playoff game. Then his second playoff game on the
04:23road won that as well. Knocked off the number one seed in the Detroit lions before going down to
04:27the Philadelphia Eagles. Like everything is in line. The vibes are high. The coaching staff is
04:31intact. And now you're just waiting for one of your most important key cards on offense just to come
04:36back and be healthy. And it's also something for about like who wins the negotiation. Like if you
04:40win the negotiation as a team, yeah, you feel good, but you know, the player is already angry at that
04:43point. And we're not saying you just overpay to overpay. That's not how you run a business, but it's
04:48interesting that Terry McLaurin got like a contract offer in March. And it's like, all right, I don't like
04:52that offer. And there's been no like reciprocation between both sides of communication and
04:56counter offers. That's what you worry about here. But hopefully things start to come to a pass because
05:01other players in the NFL that we probably didn't think would get signed to show up to camp,
05:05they're coming back to camp. And usually week or two goes by, you sort of meet halfway in the middle,
05:10Joe, and these things tend to work themselves out. They, they really do. And I, again, I think a lot
05:16of him being there, just being around his teammates, even though he's not participating, I think that
05:22will help this situation at some point move along, as opposed to again, out of sight, out of mind guys.
05:29And he's not helping his teammates or anybody else's understanding is they may be that it's a
05:33business and not, not being there. That's, that's a, that would have been a problem. Not to mention
05:40a $50,000 hit every time you didn't show up. No doubt about it. And by the way, Joe, the commander
05:45season upcoming here, because I know like people get over anxious. It's like, okay, CJ straddle an
05:50unbelievable rookie season. He'll probably double down on that next year. There are high expectations
05:54for their quarterback and also their team. What is your feeling heading into the season on the
05:58Washington commanders? Yeah. Well, listen, it's it's Philadelphia's division until somebody knocks
06:05them down. The giants should be better Washington a second year now with Jaden Daniels. I hope Terry
06:12McLaurin, I I I'm going to be real interested. I think the sky is the limit, but they better have
06:17their full compliment of players. Yep. We'll see what we get out of Debo, maybe refresh,
06:22maybe rejuvenate and also appears to be in better condition. Now, how about that? More NFL talk next
06:27news and notes. We got you covered news and notes in the NFL. That's what we do here on the sports
06:32grid network. Keep you updated on all the latest information. Now, when you're talking about the
06:35latest information, usually it's superstar players that you like to dip into. This not necessarily a
06:39superstar player, Joe Renier that we're going to talk about. It's Kenny Pickett of the Cleveland Browns,
06:43but it sort of gives us now a timeline into who is actually going to be that quarterback,
06:48who is going to make the active roster. And I always felt, and I don't know if you feel the same,
06:52like Kenny Pickett is a veteran and he doesn't make a lot of money and could be on your roster.
06:57But when you look at the roster construction of the Cleveland Browns, it always felt to me that
07:01even though he's a veteran guy, he should be the odd man out. Like Flacco's not going to like
07:06upset the apple cart in the locker room. If he doesn't start, he understands what, Hey,
07:10look, making a couple more, couple more dollars. I'm aging. I'll guide these veterans or these young
07:14kids through. But if I need to start, I can, and I probably will opening day, which leaves the door
07:19open to Dylan Gabriel and Shador Sanders. Like if we're having quarterback merry round, you know,
07:23merry-go-round rotations here, I think Kenny Pickett typically is the odd man out, but how do you feel
07:27about the situation now where Pickett is injured with a hamstring? He's going to miss some time.
07:32And what that means for the opening day starter for the Cleveland Browns?
07:35Well, it's listen, it was going to be a competition one way or the other, right? I mean,
07:41the Musgrave was the, uh, the quarterback coach there had nothing but great things to say about
07:47him. Uh, you know, he said that first couple of practices here at training camp, like he came in,
07:52he came in ready. He was more than impressed with what he saw from, but unfortunately injuries like
07:58this, uh, happened. So hopefully he won't be out too, too long. They say he'll be reevaluated next week,
08:05but again, where one, this opens up a, you know, plenty of opportunities for Gabriel, for Sanders.
08:11Like you said, I don't think Flacco, you are what you are at 40 years old. And there's really,
08:16he's not going to go in and dazzle anybody there. Uh, plus he's already had been there. So I think
08:22this is all about opening the door for the younger guys. The question is, will one of them step up
08:27and walk through it? That's going to be the big question. It is. And we'll find out a lot now because
08:32those young kids are going to get a lot more reps with Kenny Pickett out here. We'll see how many
08:35reps that you actually need from Joe Flacco. Like that's an interesting story, but a story that we've
08:39been following all along from the night that he got drafted Shamar Stewart and the Cincinnati Bengals
08:44for some reason could not come to an agreement. Is it a you problem? Is it a me problem? But now
08:49back in camp and ready to go reached an agreement on a four-year fully guaranteed $18.97 million
08:55contract that includes $10.4 million as a signing bonus. Every first round pick is in,
09:01but this looked like it was going to be an ugly standoff that might've sent Stewart back into the
09:05draft next year. Crisis averted. The Bengals need all the help they can get, Joe, on the defensive
09:10line. They got some help now. Yeah. Okay. So what are you going to do with try Anderson now? Cause
09:15that's all right. All right. Your move again here, Cincinnati. Let's see what you're going to do
09:19here. I mean, this was a, you drafted this kid to be a bookend, right? And because he's still
09:25young and he's still very, we're not talking about a top five pick here, Donnie. We're talking
09:29about he was down the board a little bit. There were some questions, uh, about him, uh, from a
09:35personality standpoint as well. So he did drop, he's got plenty of talent, but it's raw. So having
09:41him in camp, uh, around other guys and around veterans and hopefully Trey Anderson at some
09:47particular point is a move in the right direction. If I am the Bengals, but you got to get, you know,
09:53getting him in there is great, but we all know who you got to sign here.
09:58Yep. Trade a baby. It's got to be trade a soon, which means he shows up to camp. At least you
10:01get some sort of a pass rush here on both ends now, but one domino is down. Shamar Stewart's
10:05in. We'll see if Trey Hendrickson makes it in as well. Other news and notes across the NFL
10:10landscape. How about Joe Mixon expected again to carry that full load down there in Houston.
10:13He's banged up and we don't even know if we're going to see him in the preseason and for a veteran
10:17running back, that's never a good sign here to be banged up. Once again, Joe, before the season
10:21starts tough one there. Yeah. I mean, unfortunately, uh, injuries have taken a toll with, uh, Mixon,
10:28but when he is, listen, when I got, when he's healthy, he is a weapon and he showed you exactly
10:34when things weren't going all, uh, all that well last year with your sophomore quarterback,
10:39Mixon carried that team, uh, a lot and he will be missed, but hopefully he'll be able to get back,
10:45uh, sooner rather than later here. No doubt about it. And also switching up the topics here. How
10:51about Micah Parsons? The crowd's chanting sign Micah sign Micah out there in Napa Valley or wherever
10:56the, uh, you know, California wine country where the Cowboys are actually practicing out. But how
11:01about this? Micah's got to feel good waking up and see Jake Ferguson got four for 52. He's rolling
11:05and Micah's like, wait a second, this guy's got more money than me now. How's that happen?
11:10I mean, it's going to be very interesting here with the Cowboys, right? Because you got Parsons,
11:16you got Tyler Smith, you got Deron Bland, Brandon Aubrey, George Pitt, all of these guys are
11:22entering contract year. So boy, this should be interesting to see how, how much business will
11:28Jerry and the Cowboys be doing here this season. Can't wait to see how it all pans out.
11:34Micah Parsons working out. Micah Parsons is showing up. Micah Parsons know he's going to get paid.
11:39Micah Parsons will be the highest paid defensive player in the history of the NFL, but every day he
11:43waits. It's just going to be more money for him. I've seen here.
