00:01Mali's former Prime Minister Shoguel Maiga under the spotlight once again,
00:06this time over allegations of embezzlement and financial misconduct during his time in office.
00:12The country's Office of the Auditor General says it's handed over damning documents to the judiciary,
00:18pointing to serious irregularities in public spending under Maiga's leadership.
00:23The investigation, now confirmed by judicial sources, centres on what's being called the Shoguel Maiga files,
00:29Maiga's Attorney General is reported to be reviewing at least two cases,
00:34one involving inflated expenses tied to the inauguration of a public project,
00:39the other mission-related funds allegedly distributed without proper justification.
00:44At the heart of the probe, nearly 2 billion francs, that's around 3.3 million dollars in public funds.
00:52Investigators are now working to trace exactly how that money was used,
00:57and a formal summoning for Maiga may be imminent.
01:00But Maiga's allies remain defiant.
01:03Maiga could look to argue that Prime Ministers in Mali have sovereign funds that they can use at their discretion.
01:10Some say the case is politically motivated.
01:14claiming to get safe is not there on this list of strategies.
