00:00South Africa's National Police Commissioner Fani Massimola will resume his duties on Monday,
00:06six months after he was placed on precautionary suspension.
00:09President Cyril Ramaphosa reinstated him after the police chief was cleared of charges
00:14that he broke public finance rules in the irregular awarding of a tender.
00:19Prosecutors had accused him of failing to comply with financial oversight and procurement controls
00:24linked to a nearly $14 million Police Health Services contract.
00:28It was awarded to a company owned by alleged crime boss Wusi Musi Kat Matlala
00:34but was later cancelled after irregularities were uncovered.
00:38The contract became a focal point of the Matlanga Commission which is investigating allegations
00:42that criminal syndicates infiltrated parts of the country's law enforcement and criminal justice system.
00:48The charges against Massimola were formally withdrawn last month
00:52after a National Prosecuting Authority review found there were no reasonable prospects
