Labour MP Stella Creasy has urged Sir Keir Starmer to recognise the state of Palestine now, warning that waiting could end hopes of a two-state solution. One of over 200 MPs to sign a letter to the Prime Minister, Creasy said: “Time is running out for Palestine,” and called recognition a powerful step towards securing a ceasefire and lasting peace. 00:00Many of us who are passionate about the importance of a two-state solution, of a safe Israel and a free Palestine,
00:05recognise the urgency of action and are concerned that if we wait months, as has been suggested,
00:12we will lose the possibility of that two-state solution.
00:15So we'll lose the possibility of a safe Israel and a free Palestine.
00:19We recognise around the world there is horror and condemnation about what is happening in Gaza,
00:24but kids can't eat that.
00:26They need to be able to get the aid in, we need to get that ceasefire and we need a two-state solution.
00:32This is a very powerful way of us all standing together as a world and calling for that.
00:35Well, I listened to President Macron when he came to Parliament two weeks ago
00:39and he made a very powerful case that this was the way to get a ceasefire.
00:43And actually, I think across Parliament there is agreement that we now need to turn around that conversation
00:48because time is running out for Palestine.
00:50There has to be a state of Palestine for a two-state solution to happen.
00:54And I want to be very clear that we need to wrest this narrative away from Hamas.
00:58It should not be dependent on Hamas, whether a two-state solution is secured,
01:02any more than it should be dependent on Prime Minister Netanyahu.
01:05The people suffering in Palestine, the people in Israel who want peace,
01:10need us to act and support them in this way.
