00:00Olympia Gymnast Beth Tweddle has been busy hosting a very special masterclass for young gymnasts at Shabbas Park to kick-start a programme of six weeks of free sports sessions at Liverpool One over the summer.
00:14For me Liverpool holds a very close place in my heart and obviously to be able to come back into Liverpool One, kind of showcase the sport that I fell in love with at such a young age and just give children the opportunity.
00:28They may never have tried it and just having an opportunity to come along and have a go. They may love it, they may not and that's okay but unless they're given the opportunity to try they'll never find out.
00:38The former team GB champion gymnast who took home a bronze medal at London 2012 on the uneven bars has led the programme teaching youngsters new moves and coaching them on how to develop their skills.
00:53If you enjoy something you will give 100% to it and I always went back to my why even when I was having those hard days in the gym if I had a bad result or I had an injury you kind of think to yourself why am I doing this and then actually I loved it.
01:09I loved it. I loved it from seven. I'm 40 now and I still love it. My passion is just in a different area instead of competing it's inspiring the next generation. So yeah gymnastics will always be a huge part of my life.
01:23Beth widely regarded as one of Britain's most successful female gymnasts is a triple world champion six time European champion and Commonwealth champion to her impressive career includes multiple accolades across international competitions making her one of the most decorated British gymnasts of all time.
01:44When I was young my parents were always very keen to obviously have education as part of my life because ultimately when you're a professional athlete you can pick up an injury at any point.
01:55So I kept up university and I didn't think I'd be able to create a career out of gymnastics but I set up my business Beth Huddle Gymnastics prior to retiring.
02:06Along with the coaching sessions Beth took part in a Q&A giving fans and aspiring athletes the opportunity to hear her story and receive advice from a true elite gymnast giving fans a chance to hear her first hand what it takes to compete at the highest level.
02:24I tried lots of sports and I think with this one it was just flipping around and just the way you can be creative in your own way and I think that's what kind of drew me in.
02:36My vision is to give every child the opportunity and that allowed me to bring that to life I've got centres across the country we work with just under 16,000 children and we've got three new sites opening in September around the Manchester area so yeah it just allows me to really bring to life what I want to achieve.
