Liverpool welcomes more than 30 million visitors each year and it's not hard to see why with
00:08
fabulous green spaces, stunning architecture and a warm welcome. With this in mind we have
00:13
put together a guide for the very best family friendly activities the summer has to offer
00:18
but first we want to hear what you love about the city when the weather heats up. I'm hoping
00:23
for a nice summer, I'm not one for actually sitting in the sun but if I go out in it I
00:28
just catch it. It seems to make a beeline for me but that doesn't bother me. But it's
00:35
nice to have nice weather. Come to the Liverpool city centre and you know just walk around
00:41
and enjoy. We've got buskers in town, we've got loads of buskers in town and they are
00:49
really good. So just enjoy the music. So one of the beautiful things with Liverpool is
00:55
that because we live around the ocean, even if the weather is not good in the morning
01:01
it can be good in the afternoon. So you can get wind, it gets you a bit of breeze, it's
01:07
beautiful isn't it? Unfortunately in this country you can tell when it's summer because
01:12
the rain is warmer. This summer at the 2024 Olympics in Paris more than 30 different sports
01:18
will feature. You can catch all the action at Liverpool 1 where a giant screen will be
01:23
in place on Shavas Park until Sunday 8th September giving you the chance to cheer on
01:27
your favourite athletes. If you fancy yourself as an Olympian you can visit Wiff Waff which
01:32
is an alfresco ping pong hall in the Baltic Triangle. There's no shortage of green spaces
01:38
here in Liverpool. If I had to pick my favourite it would have to be Sefton Park which has
01:43
a lake, cafes, tennis courts and a playground for the kids plus the Palm House. Croxsteth
01:51
Park is also an absolute gem with woodlands, a farm, a walled Victorian garden and a miniature
01:57
railway. If the weather is not in your favour, let's face it, you can't always rely on it.
02:02
National museums and Liverpool venues are free to enter. You can go to the World Museum
02:08
and explore outer space, see some beautiful paintings and sculpture at the Walker Art
02:14
Gallery plus all of the other venues too. We've got not one but two cathedrals either
02:21
We're at the other end of Hope Street this year. Liverpool Cathedral celebrates its 100th
02:24
birthday. They're celebrating with an exhibition by Anish Kapoor. It opens to the public on
02:29
Saturday 10th August and runs until Sunday 15th September. Now Scousers have a special
02:34
place in their heart for the River Mersey. It encapsulates the city better than anything
02:40
else. Liverpool's Royal Albert Dock is right on the waterfront. It is beautiful. There's
02:47
also the Pierhead, home to the Three Graces, where you can hop on the ferry across the
02:52
Mersey Plus. It is arguably the best place to admire Liverpool's world famous skyline.
