A new month-long celebration of live music will take place across Liverpool, before expanding into a summer programme of major concerts and community events.

00:00From street corners to major stages, Liverpool is set to turn up the volume with its first ever Music Month.
00:06Running throughout May, the programme is being delivered by Culture Liverpool and Sound City,
00:10bringing together live performances, cultural events and community activity across the city region.
00:16Organisers say their aim is to celebrate the artists, venues and audiences that have helped earn Liverpool its status as
00:23a UNESCO City of Music.
00:24The initiative is also twinned with New York Music Month, a long-established event in the United States.
00:30Across the month, a wide range of activities planned that includes pop-up performances and street events,
00:36with acts from Cotumba and Sky Valley Mistress appearing outside the Jacaranda on Slater Street, alongside additional performances across the
00:43city.
00:44As May draws to a close, the focus shifts to Liverpool's Summer of Music, which will run through to August.
00:49Supported by the Liverpool City Region's Destination Partnership, the programme will focus on festivals, concerts and events across the region's
00:57boroughs.
00:58Major performances already announced include stadium shows by Foo Fighters and My Chemical, Romance at Anfield,
01:04Lewis Capaldi in Sefton Park and Nile Rodgers and Sheik at Bootle's Lock and Key.
01:08Alongside these headline events, a dedicated commissioning fund from Liverpool City Region Combined Authority
01:13will support local venues, artists and promoters to deliver their own projects, encouraging new collaborations and grassroots creativity.
01:21Together, the event aimed to reinforce Liverpool's reputation as one of the world's leading music cities,
01:25while ensuring the benefits of music tourism are felt across the entire region.
