Speaking to reporters on Monday, Speaker Johnson (R-LA) reacted to the alleged shooting of an off-duty CBP officer by an illegal immigrant in New York City on Sunday.
Transcript
00:00We had this episode in New York of the CBP officer shot in the face here.
00:05Some people are concerned, though, about the Trump administration going too far
00:09with some of these deportations and not going after the people who are,
00:14you know, they truly ought to be deported.
00:15The focus has always been on dangerous, criminal, illegal aliens,
00:20and the person who shot this officer valiantly, even off duty, as I'm told,
00:25is an example of why we have this problem.
00:28The Biden administration opened the border wide for four years.
00:31We all talked about it incessantly.
00:33We begged the previous president to close it, and he refused to do so.
00:36So by some estimates, at least 20 million people came into the country illegally.
00:40Many of them are dangerous.
00:41We're seeing that on display right now.
00:43Thank goodness we have a strong commander-in-chief who has sealed that border shut.
00:47He demonstrated that the power was always there to do so,
00:50and the Biden administration or whoever was in charge of the auto plan refused to do it.
00:54Look, we're going to be dealing with the fallout from that for quite some time,
00:57but we need ICE agents to do their job.
01:00We need the Border Patrol to do their job.
01:01We need DHS to do its job, and they are, and we'll support them 100% of that.
