Isle of Man swimmer Laura Kinley reflects on a seventh Island Games
Transcript
00:00Laura, that's the end of a seventh Ireland Games campaign for you. How would you sum it up?
00:05Oh, it's been amazing. The whole team's swam incredible this week.
00:10I've been really happy to win four medals, two individual and two relay.
00:15And having the opportunity to stand on the podium last night with the team and hear the national anthem, it's incredible as always, yeah.
00:22I think your first game was 2011. I was there for that. I remember that vividly in Isle of Wight.
00:27How is this ranking, that sort of list of seven?
00:32Oh, it's been really good. I mean, when I first did the Games in 2011, there was only five of us on the team and this time we've got 15.
00:39So I think it just shows the strength and depth that's coming through Isle of Wight swimming at the moment.
00:44Yeah, and the whole atmosphere. We've got a lot of supporters here this time as well.
00:49I'm just going to have a word for them. I believe they've been queuing just to get in here, which is phenomenal, really, isn't it?
00:55Yeah, they've been queuing, I think, from half six in the morning to get in for a 10 o'clock start and the same again in the evening.
01:00So to have all the guys from back home here as well just makes it a little bit more special when the whole team performs so well.
01:08I remember speaking to Lee last time I was in Gibraltar. He said it was a quick pool. What's this pool been like? Has it been kind to you?
01:14I think it has been for me. I mean, I've had a tough year kind of coming into this with injury. I didn't swim for six months last year.
01:23It's been hard getting back to it. There's been a lot of people kind of supporting me to get back to where I am and to be able to swim the sort of times this week.
01:30I didn't think I would at all. In the relay just then, I saw my personal best.
01:35Front crawl as well.
01:37Yeah, which isn't my favourite, which isn't my best event. So yeah, no, it's really special.
01:42I mean, for me, kind of the biggest win of this week was being here and just being able to perform and represent the Isle of Man one more time.
01:50So to come away with four medals, I'm over the moon.
01:52You say one more time, 2027 Faroe Islands, tempted to go on for a couple more years and then there's the Isle of Man in 2029.
01:59You must think, home games, you know.
02:02Oh, I'm not sure yet.
02:04Four years is a long time, isn't it?
02:05Yeah, it is, it is. I think I said in 2019 that I'd be my last, so never say never, but yeah, I'm not making any promises yet.
