00:00Breaking news in the UK today as the voting age is set to be lowered to 16 before the next general
00:05election. I'm Lily and I'm bringing you your news stories with Mid Devon Advertiser.
00:09The new change will see more than 1 million 16 and 17 year olds now eligible to vote.
00:15This marks the biggest change in the electorate since 1969 where the voting age was decreased
00:20from 21 to 18. The voting age in Scotland and Wales is already 16 years old. Labour's manifesto
00:26in 2024 pledged to lower the voting age along with the other two countries.
00:30Democracy Minister Rosh Anara Ali made the announcement today.
