Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 has undergone a RM30mil upgrade in the first half of 2025, rolling out 14 new initiatives aimed at delivering a smarter, faster, and more welcoming travel experience.

KLIA Terminal 1 General Manager of Operations Abd Hasman Abd Muhimim said the upgrades reflect Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd’s (MAHB) commitment to positioning KLIA as a world-class, efficient, and inclusive international hub.

00:33reflect Malaysia Airports, Holdings Berhad, MAHB, ongoing efforts to position KLIA as a world-class
00:41and inclusive international hub, with the terminal recording 30.1 million passengers in the first
00:47half of the year, a 9.9% increase from the same period last year.

02:23To better accommodate families, 36 family-friendly parking bays have been added,
02:29while 100 new wheelchairs are being rolled out, with 50 already available, free of charge at major terminal areas.
02:37Washroom upgrades include wider entrances, sensor taps, grab bars and emergency call buttons.
02:45Passenger convenience has also been enhanced with 5,000 new baggage trolleys,
02:50featuring lighter, strap-free designs and built-in brakes.
02:54A mobile bag drop system, currently on trial, can handle 10 times more luggage than conventional counters.
03:00At the domestic checkpoint, screening capacity has doubled to 1,500 passengers per hour,
03:08cutting wait times to under 5 minutes.
03:11Increased automation now sees nine self-service boarding pass scanners
03:15at international airside entry points, replacing the previous six manual lanes.
03:22Two additional immigration priority counters have also been introduced to assist families,
03:27the elderly, expectant mothers and those with reduced mobility.
03:32Beyond functionality, the terminal's ambience has been refreshed
03:36with new heritage-themed wall installations, improved signage at aero train stations
03:41and a revamped kids' zone at gate C30, now featuring an orangutan-themed playground.
