00:00Good evening and welcome to the past seven days on six I am Vanessa cutting has what made the
00:23news this past week a prominent attorney was charged with two sexual related offenses
00:29the prime minister announced plans to increase the legal age to consume alcohol and marijuana
00:35and a committee was appointed to look into restarting the refinery as per usual if it was
00:42happening it was on six let's get right into it attorney at lower martin george held a press
00:48conference last week two days after being charged with sexual offenses however he did more than
00:55declares innocence as he also announced plans to take a bride come december one hundred percent
01:03innocent that's my declaration to the nation in this matter attorney at lower martin george is
01:11declaring his innocence ahead of his trial date at which we'll have to defend the charges of
01:16grievous sexual assault and indecent assault growing up with a mother and six sisters respect
01:23for females has always been part of my ethos and my character i'm also a single father of three
01:31wonderful daughters who are all around the same age as this person george's public statement comes as a
01:40woman has accused him of perpetrating sexual acts against her which are alleged to have taken place
01:46at his office our employment team has always been at least eighty percent female with more than thirty
01:54years of my firm's existence and my interactions have always been professional courteous and polite
02:02however we live in dangerous and treacherous times and the easiest thing is for a female to make an
02:11allegation of sexual misconduct against a male and then the man is left fighting for his life trying to
02:18defend his name character and integrity george further notes he is a well-known public figure we've seen
02:26these allegations made against all kinds of public figures internationally some with merit but then
02:33again there are some who are hopelessly unmeritorious and false that they seem to be made simply because
02:40the person is a public figure whom you're trying to pull down and unfortunately we of the afro diaspora
02:49have a particular penchant for pulling down our own and this case is no different however george ended
02:58the press conference on a high and unexpected note to my wonderful and beautiful fiance alicia
03:08i say to you god did not make us to break us he may twist us bend us and put us through the fire
03:19but he did not make us to break us and our wedding will proceed on 27 december as promised and we hope to
03:30see as many media people there as we have here today and despite what people may say miss moti says she's
03:38standing by her man of six years i support him 100 percent i am going to stand by him throughout this
03:45and he will come through together well as a woman yourself how do you feel standing next to mr george's
03:51side in the face of the allegations that have been made okay i'm not going to answer questions along
04:00this lines george is being represented by senior counsel pamela elder the law association called for
04:08an investigation into the leak of confidential information in george's case and called on the
04:14ttps and other relevant agencies to detect the source of the leak and to hold accountable any
04:20individual responsible for this unlawful and unethical conduct the law association says it condemns the
04:28publication and dissemination of the viral complainant's name image and details of her
04:35statement to the trinidad and tobago police service which are now circulating widely online
04:42the association reminds the public that section 32 of the sexual offenses act chapter 1128 makes it a
04:51criminal offense to publish or broadcast any information likely to lead to the identification of a
04:58complainant in a sexual offenses matter the law association points out that the law is clear
05:04and it applies equally to traditional media outlets and social media users it explains that the rational
05:12behind this prohibition is to protect victims of sexual offenses from further trauma stigma and public
05:20scrutiny it adds that the unauthorized disclosure of sensitive information not only breaches the law
05:27but also undermines the dignity privacy and safety of persons involved the association states that
05:36this troubling incident reflects a broader and increasingly prevalent trend in trinidad and tobago
05:42the unauthorized leaking and sharing of police evidence crime scene footage witness statements
05:49and other sensitive information that ought to remain in the custody of the appropriate investigative
05:56authorities it warns that this must not become the norm as the protection of the justice system depends on
06:03maintaining the confidentiality of such material until due process is followed the association urges all
06:10citizens especially users of social media platforms to refrain from sharing or reposting material that violates
06:18the law or causes harm to the individuals involved in this matter candy hill tv6 news the ttps confirmed that it will look into the matter
06:31in other news the prime minister said this country is retaining appeals to the privy council after one of a fellow caracom heads of
06:38government repeated a call for the ccj to be the final court of appeal for all caracom member states
06:46prime minister kamla passad possesses told tv6 news that the caribbean court of justice the ccj located in port of
06:52spain will not be replacing the privy council as this country's final court of appeal for pellet jurisdiction

07:17and you will forgive me having been the one who was the chair of the preparatory committee for the establishment of the
07:23caribbean court of justice you will forgive me if i now make yet another appeal to the citizens of this region
07:31to allow their governments to know that there ought to be a singular purpose for the caribbean
07:38court of justice to be truly the last court of appeal for the states of this region
07:44in trinidad and tobago the ccj is the final court of appeal in respect of the interpretation and
07:49application of the revised the treaty of shagaramus on its website the ccj notes that it serves as the final
07:56court of appeal in civil and criminal matters for those countries of caracom which are parties to
08:02the agreement and have acceded to the appellate jurisdiction trinidad and tobago is among the
08:07caracom member states where the privy council in london is the final court of appeal with regard to
08:12appellate jurisdiction tv6 news has sent a question to prime minister passard besessa regarding prime minister
08:19motley's statement to find out if the new passard besessa administration plans to have the ccj in port
08:26of spain replace the privy council as the final court of appeal for pellet matters prime minister
08:32passard besessa told tv6 news quote we will not be replacing the privy council but i fully respect the
08:39right of all sovereign caracom nations to choose as they wish and the quote so far the ccj is the final
08:47court of appeal for barbados belize dominica guyana and saint lucia jule brown tv6 news we are to a
08:56quick break we'll have more news when we return
09:05prime minister kamla passard besessa signaled that her government intends to clamp down on young drinkers
09:11by increasing the age limit for alcohol consumption from 18 to 21 years the stakeholders we spoke with
09:18agreed with the prime minister's decision we intend to raise the legal age for gambling and marion use to
09:26the age 25 and older and the legal age for alcohol will be raised to 21 years and older president of the
09:41bar keepers and operators association satish munasar says his association supports the move by prime
09:47minister kamala passard besessa to raise the legal age limit among young people for alcohol consumption
09:54from 18 to 21 years but the association president said in order for the government's plan to work
10:01the authorities need to crack down on illegal selling of alcohol so in order to get the results
10:06that the prime minister is looking for first what needs to happen first is to have a crackdown on
10:11the illegal sales of alcohol and then you could look at the legal standpoint but the actual raising of
10:18the limit so what the prime minister is looking to accomplish from it is something that the association
10:25does not have a problem with the association president explained what he meant by illegal sale of alcohol
10:32there are places that are not licensed to sell liquor where is selling liquor like shops parlors
10:37mini-marts all kind of thing and when people go at that restaurant when it doesn't matter what age
10:42it is they go on there and they are sold and this is something that is illegal and not supposed to
10:48happen it also happens in in in the in the term of gambling i heard that the prime minister also said
10:53she wants to raise the gambling age to 25 but you want to raise the gambling age to 25 but all over the
10:59place you're seeing illegal gambling happening former independent senator and psychologist dr varma
11:05dial singh welcomes the prime minister's decision to raise the alcohol age limit adding that there are
11:11many health risks involved the human brain is still developing until you reach 26 to 27 so therefore for us
11:20to allow our youths to be drinking from 18 years of age we are now causing some problems with the
11:27development i love their braids the social reasons why we should support this so therefore the cancelling
11:34is also there as well as other medical problems as cirrhosis of the liver and again alcohol has been
11:42known to be the number one date rape drug former commissioner of police gary griffith also weighed in on
11:49the matter he says enforcing the law is just as important as amending it presently we have a law
11:55and the law states that persons must be 18 years old or above to be able to purchase and consume
12:00alcohol the same thing with cigarettes the same thing with gambling and it is not done anywhere
12:04in the country because we have a bad culture the bad culture of parents many parents allowing their
12:09miners to go out on a friday night arabita avenue is littered with more persons under 18 years old in
12:14bars and clubs and restaurants purchasing alcohol than persons over 18 years old charlotte kisto tv6 news

13:48and careless driving i am signing the order shortly and the transport minister also responded to
13:56questions from the media about the issue of private cars which operate for hire including ride shares
14:03currently ph vehicles are private vehicles but currently regarding how we're going to treat with the ph
14:10ph vehicles we are still discussing it right share drivers and whatnot as well strictly those who only
14:21stands illegal is based on for hire based on your license plate that is something we're also looking at

15:54cabinet and will speak to the issue of the reopening of refined of the refinery its current state and
16:01assessment of its technical capacity and of course on a projection as to what would be required in terms
16:09of feedstock supply human resource requirements its technical assessment readiness and the infrastructure and
16:17utility profile as exists this committee we believe will be meeting very soon as parenko has bought
16:25offshore oil and gas producing assets from woodside energy a war of words between energy minister dr rudal
16:31monilal and former energy minister suat young brood over a prize matrix for the woodside gas project
16:38the matter involves what the government said is an error that could have cost this country some seven
16:43billion dollars in revenue on friday the energy ministry announced that the government welcomed
16:49the completion of parenko's acquisition of the greater angostura producing oil and gas assets
16:55and associated production facilities from woodside energy in trinidad and tobago the ministry said this
17:02positions parenko among the top three producers of natural gas production in trinidad and tobago however
17:09during the post cabinet media briefing on thursday evening energy minister dr rudal monilal spoke about
17:14what he identified as an amendment to a production sharing contract regarding a particular block awarded
17:20to woodside energy which he said had intended to partner with bp on that gas project the energy
17:27minister said it had been approved by the cabinet of the former pnm-led government in january of this year
17:332025. it was only discovered in april 2025 that the note taken to cabinet and approved contained a
17:44detrimental matrix involving costing and returns to the government and the people of trinidad and tobago
17:51dr monilal said the new unc-led government took action following its victory in the 2025 general election
17:58on april 28th if we did not act today the country stood to lose in terms of revenue 6.7 billion trinidad
18:09and tobago dollars because of the note taken by mr stuart young ladies and gentlemen
18:17it is amazing to note that this mistake was actually picked up
18:22by the contractor woodside energy and brought to the attention of our government
18:28on friday former energy minister and now opposition mp young said in a facebook post
18:34that he does not know what are the specifics that minister munilal is referring to but he is confident
18:40it was not due to any error on the part of the cabinet nor himself i have asked incidentally for a
18:47complete investigation by the ministry of energy and energy industries as to how an error a mistake
18:55a miscalculation could take place with a pricing matrix that allows a government to lose a billion
19:02united states dollars almost seven billion trinidad and tobago dollars in the life of a project how
19:09can a mistake like that take place mp young said the pricing matrix would be a complex formula that
19:14seeks to share profits made from the gas produced at varying global gas prices after deducting the
19:21recovery of costs and fiscal terms the opposition mp further said this was all negotiated by the ministry
19:28of energy's very competent technical staff who would have prepared the cabinet note and production sharing
19:35contract on thursday
