'Get This Ship Turned': Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin Touts Progress For Spending Cuts

In a video address, Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) explains rescission packages.

00:00We have once in a generation opportunity to actually do what's right for this country

00:04and get this ship turned and move in the right direction. And I believe we can do it.

00:09This is one of a three-step process. Reconciliation, rescission, appropriation.

00:15So we're done with the first reconciliation. And I did say the first reconciliation. We

00:20probably will do two more reconciliation packages. Now we're moving to rescission

00:24and appropriation. That's what we're working on right now in the Senate. And they're running

00:28those two simultaneously. Now we won't finish appropriations, but we have to complete the

00:33rescission package. Now remember, the rescission package is what President Trump and his

00:38administration looks at and says, look, Congress, I know you appropriated these dollars for these

00:43programs. We're not going to be able to spend it. We don't want to spend it. We're going to give it

00:47back to you. Once they send it back to us through a rescission package, Congress, both chambers,

00:52has 45 days to act. And if we don't act, then it basically instructs the president that he has to

00:58go ahead and spend the money. They have sent it back. The house passed it, sent it to us. Now we're

01:03working through it. It's going to actually be a little bit more difficult because there's a lot

01:07of people over here that have strong opinions. Politicians having strong opinions, you would

01:10think. Every step of the way, though, we're cutting spending. As I say all the time, we're all in the

01:15same boat. We're all in the same direction. There's multiple different areas we have to do to get our

01:20physical house in order. Stay tuned. We are working hard to deliver for the American people.

01:25Remember, promise is made. Promise is kept. We're going to continue to do this. We have to. We're
