00:00You talked to Secretary Noem yet? I haven't. I'm actually, neither one of us had time to talk,
00:04so I'm going to go give her a call in just a second. You know, we're, our families are very
00:08close, and this happened very quick, so we're going to, we're going to have a conversation
00:13with her in just a second. Did the president say anything about what he would like you to do in
00:16this job that Noem is not? I will never discuss private conversations. Never have. I'm not going
00:21to do that now either, but we're super excited about the opportunity, and we're going to do the
00:24best we can. We're going to get Department of Homeland Security, making sure that we stay
00:27focused on protecting the homeland, and no matter if you support me, you don't support me. I'm going
00:33to be laser focused on getting that done. What was your first reaction to just the news that
00:38you were nominated for this position, just to miss everything, and that's happening?
00:41So, humbling, because I had to call my dad, and I mean, because it happened quick, right? I had to
00:48call my wife and call my dad, both, and it's just, you know, pretty humbling when you start thinking
00:52about it. A little kid from Westville, Oklahoma, gets to serve in the president's cabinet. That's
00:57pretty neat. So, thank you guys. How did you find out? Any of the truth?
01:00And I think I have just like a really initial question. I mean, there's so many things that's
01:04happening within DHS. What would be your main objective or goal?
01:08We've got, you know, we're going to get focused on that, and we'll be, we'll get back to you
01:12on certain details. What do you expect to be confirmed?
01:14Were you surprised, Senator?
01:16The phone call I got from the president was right before the statement went out.
01:19Okay, thank you.
01:22What do you tell Democrats who may not be-
01:24I'm going to have a conversation with, if Mr. Chairman wants to sit down and talk to me,
01:28I'm going to sit down and talk to them. I want to try to earn their support, and I'm
01:30going to be very open and honest with them. And at the end of the day, all I can do
01:35is
01:35do my job. And so I don't, I'm not going to get into, you know, a tit-tat, but if
01:40they
01:40have real concerns, I'm going to listen. I'm going to see if it's practical. But nothing's
01:45going to prevent me from doing my job. I'm going to enforce the policies and the laws
01:49that Congress has passed, and we're going to protect our homeland.
01:52Senator, Senator, Senator, just looking, just looking at some of the-
01:54I'm going to take one more, then I'm going to-
01:56Okay, thank you, Senator. Thank you, Senator. Just looking at some of the criticism that
01:59Nome has faced, is there any learning lessons that you have picked up from Nome and ways
02:04in which you want to believe the agency was a different way?
02:06Listen, Christy is a friend, and I haven't had time to call Christy yet, or Secretary Nome.
02:10And we, our families, our friends, she was tasked to do a very difficult job, and I think
02:17she has performed the best she can do underneath the circumstances. Is there always lessons
02:25that can be learned? You know, listen, my wife and I, we have, over the years, we have
02:29been fortunate enough to purchase companies and grow our companies, and every day there's
02:33something you can do better. And so I think there's an opportunity to build off successes,
02:39and there's also opportunities to build off things that may be getting to go quite as
02:42planned. So, thank you.
02:45Senator, what about-
02:47And we're going to get started on right away.
02:49What are you telling your colleagues?
02:51You guys have been with me long enough, asking enough questions, you know I don't
02:54share a private conversation with you.
02:55Are you going to the White House today?
02:57Are you going to the White House today?
02:58I don't think I'm going today. I think I need to talk to my wife first.
03:01Do you expect to get support from Democrats?
03:04Tell us your reaction when you got the phone call from him.
03:07I was excited. I mean, listen-
03:09When you saw his name calling.
03:10Well, it came from the White House, so it came from the switchboard, but I was excited.
03:15The President, first of all, the President and I have a really good relationship, and we
03:19talk all the time anyways. I wasn't, I've got to be honest with you, I wasn't expecting
03:23the call today, but super excited. And I'm more excited about just ready to get started.
03:28There's a lot of work we can do to get the Department of Homeland Security working for
03:33the American people. The Department of Homeland Security has a very broad jurisdiction, and
03:39I think there's a lot of work that we need to do, and I'm excited about it.
03:43Senator Fetterman says he's going to vote for you. Do you expect other Democrats to
03:46vote for you?
03:47I, John already texted me, and of course, you guys know John and I are friends too, and
03:52so I don't know. We're going to try to earn everybody to vote. I want people to understand,
03:56I'm not, when I go into this position, yes, I'm a Republican, yes, I'm conservative, but
04:01Department of Homeland Security is to keep everybody, regardless if you support me, if you don't
04:04support me, regardless of what your thoughts are. I'm here to enforce the policies that
04:09Congress passed, and right now I'm part of it, but once I make that transition, my focus
04:15is to keep the Homeland secure. That's going to be my focus, and we're super excited about this.
04:21Sorry about that.
04:21You're welcome.
04:21Yad hacerlo, and come back to me, myself!
04:22I challenges you up with the comments. Михailelo gives me a passion to keep me thinking.
04:22So, I wonder if the qualified PhD tastes do the same.
04:22Thank you, Melissa, but塼 tenemos up.
