00:26City Hall, along with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and the City of Westminster councils, has stepped in to provide the necessary funding.
00:39Despite the financial boost, the Metropolitan Police has stated that crowd safety remained an ongoing issue.
00:46Deputy Assistant Commissioner Matt Ward has said that while funding was a positive development, there was still a significant amount of work needed in the six weeks leading up to Notting Hill Carnival to reduce the identified risks.
01:03He added that the extra funding would help make the carnival safer, but has emphasised the importance of organisers continuing to collaborate with partners and emergency services.
01:17The government has not yet contributed funding, but has said it will respond to the request in due course.
01:25The support from City Hall and the councils applies to this year only.
01:31Kensington and Chelsea's Deputy Leader, Kim Taylor-Smith, said the council had stepped in because the government had not offered any financial support and warned that future funding would be difficult.
