Severe storms roll through the mid-Atlantic

Thunderstorms drenched towns from New Jersey to South Carolina on July 9.

00:00Here's the overall setup. A lot of these counties, a lot of these western counties here for that

00:04initial severe thunderstorm watch have been allowed to expire as the storms move through.

00:09So once the storms move through, the overall severe weather threat is pretty much going to be

00:12gone, but there will still be some heavy rainfall possible behind the main line. So the flooding

00:17potential will extend even as we head into this evening. But in addition, we've also added some

00:22new counties here. You can see right here in that secondary box that goes until midnight tonight.

00:27This is going to include pretty much the entire coast of Jersey, Delaware, and portions of Maryland

00:32here as we head into this evening. Even some of the Virginia coastal counties will be included on

00:37this as well. Philadelphia, Atlantic City, Salisbury, all these areas will be washing off for risk of

00:41severe weather as we head into this evening. In addition to that, we also have severe thunderstorms

00:45ongoing here across parts of the high plains from the Dakotas and the parts of Nebraska.

00:50We've already seen confirmed reports of about ping pong ball size hail. So large hail is expected for

00:55those storms. But as we head into this evening, it's all about the heavy rainfall here from central

01:00portions of North Dakota all the way into southern central portions of Jersey. We'll be watching out

01:05for some heavy rainfall, including Washington, D.C. We had a tornado-worn storm previously in

01:09Washington, D.C. earlier this afternoon. But overall, you can see that we will be watching

01:13after that trend of severe weather to continue as we head into this evening. The storms will be moving

01:18from west to east, and they will be packing a pretty good punch. Here's the latest with future track

01:23radar. By 8 o'clock, these storms are going to start to line out. Whenever storms start to line

01:27out, the overall potential, the overall risk really starts to increase and shift to more of a

01:32strong wind and flooding rainfall risk. So that's where we'll be watching out for that. After 8 p.m.,

01:38heading into the evening hours, we will continue to watch out for some strong winds there across

01:42mainly the Delaware region, the state of Delaware. And then we'll be watching out for some lingering

01:47showers and thunderstorms, possibly some severe thunderstorms here as we head into this evening as well.
