00:00On the racetrack, United was any owner's dream, collecting seven graded stakes wins and competing
00:08as one of the top turf horses in California for several years in a row. So when it came time for
00:13him to retire, there was no question that he was staying with the Ellen J. Foxwoods family.
00:18In his second career, United now competes as a show jumper with Madison Scott,
00:22and he serves as an ambassador for Thoroughbred Aftercare.
00:25My first association with United began in 2018 when I started working for Solislet Bloodstock
00:33and Ellen J. Foxwoods. And when I first started working for the company, United had broken his
00:38maiden just a couple of weeks before that. I was really there to enjoy his entire racing career.
00:44He began in Canada before going to California and was trained by Richard Mandela and just went on
00:50an unbelievable tear for years and was the kind of horse that's just an absolute joy for anyone to
00:56own, anyone to be around, be associated with. His Breeders' Cup turf, when he ran bricks and mortar
01:03to a head, that was pretty unbelievable. And we were going absolutely bonkers. Like no one would have
01:12known that this horse didn't win the race. If you had like watched our group, we were losing our minds.
01:18I mean, he was so distinctive to watching him race. Like his head carriage, he carried his head low,
01:24just galloped along, would just gallop these things into submission and was just,
01:29he was just a great horse and so much fun every time.
01:32So when it was time to retire United from racing, you know, he was such a special horse to the Roth
01:41family and they care so much about what happens to their horses in the next phase of their career.
01:48We had a conversation with the Roths and everyone very generously agreed to let me, you know, ride him
01:54and campaign him and use him as an ambassador for off the track thoroughbreds. He was such a notable
02:01horse and he's so genuine with such a beautiful personality that he's been a great horse to
02:05showcase, you know, not just what thoroughbreds can do in their next career, but he's been a just
02:12wonderful example, you know, of an owner taking, you know, just great care and pride in their horse,
02:18not just on the racetrack, but afterwards. So Ellen J. Foxwood still owns United and I'm just
02:24lucky to be a passenger and a part of the story. So United lives the dream now, of course,
02:31he gets to live on this beautiful farm, has top-notch care, just as he did on the racetrack.
02:35And he's been a great ambassador for the breed. He's gotten to go out and do a few various shows.
02:40We competed in the Real Rider Cup two years ago, which is just a wonderful showcase for thoroughbreds.
02:46So we were able to compete in that. We'll be doing that again this year. Beyond that and doing some
02:52shows here around Kentucky, he's also been just a wonderful horse for people to experience riding.
03:00Just earlier this year, Flavia and Pratt's family came out and got to ride United. Being such a good
03:07competitor on the track, to be able to do, you know, the show jumping and eventing, to having a
03:14three-year-old sit on him and steer him around, like that's not a lot of horses that can fit
03:20that bill. And just another example of what makes this horse so special.
03:32I can't imagine he went and see him, but he's like, no, it's so special.
03:41We played a good place for him. And did not do a unique horse.
03:44We played a good sport for him. He played a great sport for him.
03:46He played a great scentedant, so we played a great sport for him.
03:50And then we were only in a great sport. And we went out and played a great sport for him.
