Leroy tries to keep it "IRL." Who has more of a chance next year, Canes or Dolphins? Will Dolphins shift focus to physicality? What would surprise you more, Fins finishing 1st or last in AFC East?
Transcript
00:00You want to have a football question real quick?
00:02Sure. Love it.
00:03Because I like asking you these questions because I like you to keep it real.
00:09Like in real life, you know that IRL?
00:12That's what I'm going to do with you.
00:13Keep it real.
00:14Girl.
00:16If I tell you right now who has more of a chance next year,
00:24I'm going to go the Canes or the Dolphins.
00:29Who you got?
00:31College may be a little easier just because of competition,
00:34but they still, when they've had powerhouses, they still haven't won ACC.
00:39That's true.
00:40So I'm not – I'm just going to – you got Tua,
00:44and then you got a quarterback who won a national championship
00:48and that team didn't want him.
00:50Yes.
00:51Right?
00:52So there's that.
00:54They're going to have a – the Canes are going to have an unbelievable defense,
00:57I believe.
00:58I just think with those guys returning, they look really good.
01:01And a new coordinator.
01:03Yeah, that's true.
01:06And then you got the Dolphins.
01:08Like, I don't know where they fit in because they have a lot of pieces
01:15that you can honestly say you're unsure about.
01:17Much tougher schedule this year than last year for the Canes.
01:20Yeah.
01:20Last year was –
01:21I just saw Virginia doesn't have to play Clemson, Miami, Notre Dame,
01:30or who else?
01:34Who's the other – they have to play SMU.
01:37They don't have to play any of those teams.
01:39So they might qualify for the championship just because of their schedule.
01:42Yeah, the Canes have Notre Dame to open up the season,
01:45which we're all excited about.
01:48They got Florida end of September.
01:52Then they go to Florida State.
01:54I don't know what Florida State's going to be this year.
01:55Who – like, is that the most battling thing?
01:58But it is a rivalry game.
01:59Okay.
02:00And then they got to go to SMU this year at the beginning of November.
02:05They got Syracuse.
02:06You guys better get revenge on that game.
02:09Syracuse.
02:10Still makes me sick to my stomach.
02:11Well, I mean, Syracuse –
02:1321-0, dude.
02:14Yeah.
02:16Jesus.
02:17You do realize who you're talking to.
02:18I know.
02:19All right.
02:19Fine.
02:20I've been on –
02:22What a crime.
02:22You know what's amazing about that situation?
02:24You never remember the times you were on the other side of that
02:30because the Canes have been playing with fire for, like, three weeks.
02:35They were playing.
02:35Right.
02:36So –
02:37They literally had –
02:38But what they basically had was, like, a stunt devil at quarterback
02:43because he's like, watch this, guys.
02:46There's a swimming shark.
02:47I'm going to tightrope it across.
02:48And, hey, we came out with the win.
02:50Right.
02:51And so, when you're on the other side of that,
02:55why do we insist on not believing that it could happen to you?
03:00Right?
03:01The Golden State Warriors won 73 games one year.
03:04It just felt like –
03:04They came back from 3-1 and then lost three –
03:07It just felt like the defense got progressively worse.
03:10Was it banged up or was the offense just putting them in a lot of those situations?
03:16Well, I mean, the offense –
03:17Yeah, they did have to come up with some key styles for the offense to pull out those miracles.
03:21Yeah, but they were in that situation.
03:24I don't know.
03:25So, that's the thing.
03:27When you think of –
03:29When you think about the Dolphins, I think defensively, they'll be okay.
03:36Right?
03:38Offensively, you have a lot of power – a lot of firepower.
03:42Gus Malzahn's still doing it.
03:44Yep.
03:44Jesus.
03:44But –
03:45It kind of looks like he should be in a rocking chair.
03:49But you have a better – I would say you have more hope
03:56because you've seen the players that they have have success.
04:00Yeah, I think the Canes – I think the Canes got a good backfield.
04:03I think that they have – you know, they've shown –
04:05The offensive line is dominant.
04:07Come on.
04:07Yeah.
04:08Just full of moose.
04:10Yeah.
04:10But that's how a football team is built, in case you're wondering.
04:13Is it?
04:14Yeah.
04:14Yeah.
04:15Well, and so to get to your question on the Dolphins, like, would you be more surprised
04:20if the Dolphins finished first or last?
04:22I would be more surprised first.
04:26Well, you're just saying because you got Buffalo.
04:28But I would say –
04:29You mean who they can't beat.
04:30Right.
04:30They can't beat.
04:31I would say this.
04:34Shockingly, I think they'll win 10, 11 games.
04:37I do.
04:39And here's what I'm going to say.
04:42The sign of a good coach, right?
04:46And I do believe – when I say I believe Mike McDaniel is a good coach,
04:49one of the signs of a good coach is to be able to self-evaluate.
04:55And when I look at all the places that he's coached, all those places have had a physical
05:05run game.
05:06Like, why are we talking about he came from San Francisco?
05:09San Francisco is physical up front, which is amazing.
05:12I don't recognize – this is nothing that Mike McDaniel did last year.
05:17Nothing he's done in all the places that he's been in.
05:19Nope.
05:20Nothing.
05:21Now, I will say this.
05:25Young coaches and new coaches sometimes overcoach a situation.
05:33That means that you think you know what they're going to do,
05:36so you come out with an adjustment without even identifying whether they can stop
05:41what you do.
05:42And that's what it looked like he did last year with all those short passes,
05:46all those runs, trying to figure out, hey, we're not strong in the middle
05:50on the offensive line, so we're going to run a whole bunch of sweeps
05:53and quick passes and try to be ahead of that when sometimes you've got to just
05:58line up and play football.
06:00So I think if you go back and see all the places that he's come,
06:06this is the farthest away from any of that, what they did last year.
06:11Yeah, they couldn't run the football to save their life last year.
06:13It was – because even when they had Mostert, and I remember you talking
06:17about this, like it took him a while.
06:19It kind of took it until Jeff Wilson got there to start running up the middle,
06:22like kind of change the attitude of the team in Raheem Mostert.
06:25But like last year, he was bad, then injured.
06:29And, you know, so I'm hopeful that –
06:32Yeah, but they got a couple of more physical running backs.
06:38They got a couple of physical guys up front.
06:42But this is one of the situations where I'm going to say this.
06:46One of the things I appreciate about playing at that level is that guys have
06:53the ability to adjust to what is demanded of them, right?
07:00Like football players aren't soft, right?
07:05Offensive alignment, defensive alignment are not soft.
07:08But sometimes you put them in situations where you're asking them to not be as
07:14physical and, you know, with all the sweeps and stuff like that.
07:18And they lose focus on being physical and understanding that offensive
07:24and defensive lines are physicality.
07:26So you'd be more surprised, Marcos, if they were first than last?
07:29Yeah, for sure.
07:30Just because they can't be Buffalo?
07:32Yeah.
07:33Because none of us think like – nobody thinks the Patriots are going to come
07:36out of nowhere to win the division.
07:37Nope.
07:38Even though they spent a lot of money, they got a new coach, Drake May,
07:41people are higher on him.
07:43They're going to be extremely physical.
07:45If you look at what their coach has done at every stop, they've run the football,
07:52play action, physical up front.
07:55Wasn't he supposed to cut off his junk?
07:57He would only cut off his junk if they won the Super Bowl.
07:59Oh, okay, okay.
08:01They only got to the FC Championship.
08:02I got to tell you, I wish I had won the Super Bowl.
08:06Not like that.
08:07Not like that.
08:08It's like – and I would hope that everybody would understand that we're not
08:14cutting – we're not self-neutering.
08:19Paleo says 2-13 versus Josh Allen.
08:22Yeah.
08:23Okay, it happens.
08:24Like, I've been – I've been victim of that.
08:26Is that it happens?
08:27It feels like that.
08:28No, it's a certainty.
08:30Yeah.
08:31Guess what?
08:31It happens to the Dolphins.
08:32I think in the five years I was in Cleveland and then in Minnesota and then
08:41in Baltimore, I beat the Pittsburgh Steelers one time.
08:45Two things are annoying about the Bills, right?
08:46Not only that they stomp the Dolphins, but it's always that they lose to Josh
08:50Allen and has Tua gotten hurt like three times against them seriously?
08:54Yeah.
08:54I know he had the concussion.
08:56I know he got his ribs broken.
08:57I feel like there was another time, too, that he got hurt against the Bills.
09:00Oh, wasn't it the – his head hit the ground like a late hit or something like
09:05that or his back?
09:06I don't know.
09:07Maybe it was only twice, but there were two big injuries.
09:09I know he got his – I know A. Jampanessa broke his ribs.
09:12Yeah.
09:13Because the Dolphins had a dollar store line.
09:15Wow.
09:16And then, you know, went Leroy Jenkins putting his head into the Mar Hamlin.
09:21Not the best.
09:22Not the best form.
09:24So, like, I think I'd be less surprised if they finish last just because I don't
09:29think they can finish first.
09:30I don't think they can beat that team.
09:31Until I see it.
09:32Until you see it.
09:33Until I see it, how can I believe it?
09:36Right.
09:36And that's the thing.
09:39Like, there's certain aspects of just Dolphins football that until you see
09:49something different, I can't be mad at you if you make an assumption.
09:53Evan 11 says, I think you guys are omitting that there have been times that
09:56have been close to beating the Bills like last year.
09:59Yes.
09:59But there's also been times where the Bills have stomped on them too, Evan.
10:03So, it's like usually there's a close one that's always a squeaker and then
10:08there's an ass kicking.
10:09Except for the year they were able to beat them in the heat and then they played them
10:14pretty close on the road.
10:16Right.
10:16You know, where the Bills fans all recognized.
10:18Did you guys know it's hot in Florida?
10:21I got the heat.
10:22Ban the sun.
10:24Is the guy in the elbow room, is he a Bills fan?
10:27Is that why they host them?
10:28Yeah.
10:28Because I don't want anybody to turn down money, but can we ban them?
10:31Can that just be a Panthers bar now?
10:33Yeah, come on.
10:34Right?
10:34Like the Bills haven't brought you championships.
10:37No Bills fans are there at three in the morning waiting on Sasha Barkov.
10:43I miss him.
10:44Where is he?
10:44Where is that rascal?
10:45Getting drunk.
10:46Him and Reinhardt.
10:48That one goes for the ages, those two.
10:50Yeah.
10:50Let's go.
10:51It sounds like they're having fun in there.
10:53We're having fun here.
10:54No, no.
10:55Barkov's like, we're having fun here.
10:56And Reinhardt's like, we're going to party.
10:59And you're just ranting like a drunk.
11:02You ever have that?
11:03Like with a friend where you party with them too much, but they get emotional.
11:06So you got to watch them.
11:08Yeah.
11:08But you're drunk too.
11:09Oh.
11:10You just want to get into shenanigans.
11:11Like when you started shadow boxing?
11:14Yes.
11:16Dude.
11:18So first of all, we walk in down the strip and go, was that the same time we go, are
11:26you hungry?
11:27And we ate, I got lobster mac and cheese on the strip and it was a hundred degrees at
11:3312 o'clock at night.
11:35Hungry.
11:36And we were hungry.
11:38So we walking through the casino.
11:41No, this was the first time we went because this is when we went to the, when we were Crowder
11:47and Hawk to the restaurant and you were sitting at the bar behind me buying drinks.
11:54The boy, uh, Dolly on YouTube says it was the DeMar hit, the wobble walk, which they won
12:02the wobble walk.
12:02And then the broken ribs, the wobble walk was my back.
12:09Right.
12:10Was that the one though?
12:10They said he hurt his back.
12:11Yeah.
12:12My back.
12:12When he was probably concussed for sure.
12:14Cause he got shoved skied a hundred percent.
12:16And then he got hurt, right?
12:18Like he got hurt the next, the next day on Thursday night football, they played.
12:22Yep.
12:22Yeesh.
12:25Stupid bills.
12:28Dirty, dirty bills.
12:30Dirty bills.
12:31What's annoying is like, they're sitting here and they're doing the same thing with Patrick
12:33Mahomes, but it's such a higher level.
12:35Like we can't even win that part of the video game to, to elevate like that.
12:40Yeah.
12:41If you get past Josh Allen, you got to deal with the boss, the boss monster.
12:46It's frustrating.
12:47We tried, we tried, but you know what?
12:50Like this is like sports.
12:54Like sometimes somebody gets on a heater and if you're that other team or those other teams
13:01in that, it's like the Jordan years, right?
13:05How do you think Utah feels?
13:07No.
13:08Right.
13:09Like it, like, come on.
13:11It happens.
13:12But I'm like, everybody was talking about Utah.
13:18Oh, they can't get over the hump.
13:20These guys can't do this.
13:22These guys, but the answer is Jordan.
13:26So you're talking about Patrick Mahomes and the Buffalo quarterback in, on the same, in
13:37the same conference.
13:38So the only way you're going to get past, and this is how it happens, is at some point
13:44they play each other and cancel one out and you only got to be one of them.
