00:00Hey, I'm Roger Jackson. I'm here today because I'm against the closure of the Derbyshire Eco Centre.
00:09At the moment, the council have said they're not necessarily closing it, but they are closing down all the courses and all the activities there.
00:19So it's in a way the same thing. And we're totally against it and totally against other adult education cuts as well.
00:26So the Eco Centre provides a really good service for people, both skills training, but also social activities and social support in environmental methods and environmental subjects.
00:43And it really should not be lost. It's a countywide centre. It's internationally recognized. It's one of four centres in the UK for dry stone walling training.
00:57And really, it would be a crying shame if it was lost to the county.
01:01I'm Lesley Freeborn and I'm part of the Eco Centre Pottery Club.
01:06We meet at the Derbyshire Eco Centre every Thursday afternoon.
01:10We're a group of 15 elderly-ish people who meet for friendship, support and we'd have a bit of pottery.
01:18We pay privately to the Eco Centre. We pay approximately £90 a week for our club to meet there.
01:29And I think this is quite a good income for the Eco Centre, possibly, that we are bringing in on a regular basis, week in, week out.
