00:00The 36th edition of the Giro d'Italia for women will begin with a Stage 1 time trial.
00:07Once again, a 14.2km thrash around the streets of Bergamo from chorus life.
00:13Very hot conditions for the riders, 153 riders reporting for duty,
00:17including three former champions and 17 former stage winners.
00:23Amber Pate getting the riders into action. 22 teams,
00:27including all of the top World Tour squads, Liv Alula and Jaco Ryder would have the honour of
00:33beginning the time trial. Leanne Lippert chasing her off the starting ramp and Pate would record
00:40the first time of the day, setting the early benchmark on a fast and demanding time trial.
00:49Flat course for the most part, out and back for the first half and then tight and technical from
00:55there to the finish line. Top 10 last year in the equivalent time trial, Ruth Edwards
01:00going to the top of the time sheets in the early stages ahead of Loretta Hansen. Anna Henderson,
01:06double British national time trial champion and one of the pre-event favourites for a top 10 position.
01:13Katrina Ulrud further ahead, managing to eclipse the time of Ruth Edwards, the Norwegian rider for the
01:21Uno X squad. Soon replaced in the top spot by Elena Hartmann, a Swiss rider, just fractions of a second
01:30ahead of the Norwegian. Henderson though was on a charge and arrived at the finish line.
01:39Fully 17 seconds faster than Hartmann for a long and extended period in the hot seat.
01:44The first half of the starting order enjoying similar weather conditions to all of the riders.
01:51Hannah van der Breggen towards the end, the rider four-time winner and returning to the race after a
01:58three-year layoff as Brodie Chapman. Her chances of repeating her third place finish in the stage one
02:06time trial from 2024 were certainly stymied by that early bike change. Meanwhile, Marlon Royster, the pre-event
02:13favourites, the pre-stage favourites, off the ramp and into action. The Swiss star, the one they were all
02:19looking at, Lika Neuen, fourth in 2024 stage one, just beating crestfallen Anna Henderson.
02:30Van der Breggen though was through to the line and ahead of Lika Neuen, whose time at the top spot was all too brief.
02:37Marlon Royster was looming out on the road, speeds well in excess of 50 km per hour for the Swiss star.
02:47She was recording the fastest intermediate timing. Lotte Capecchi, European time trial champion and
02:56world road race champion, looking to go one better than her second place overall finish
03:01in Giro 2024. Marlon Royster, through the intermediate point, a stunning 14 seconds faster than the best time
03:10to that point. And then the final rider into action, the reigning champion Elisa Longaborghini,
03:16off the start ramp, in defence of her title.
03:21Marlon Royster setting a benchmark time, now that would be unbeaten. Fully 20 seconds faster than Anna
03:28Van der Breggen. Marlon Royster delivering the time, as expected, a powerful performance of more than
03:3449 km per hour. Elisa Longaborghini heading towards the line. Lotte Capecchi getting there before her,
03:4512 seconds slower than Marlon Royster for second on the day. Elisa Longaborghini beginning in the defence
03:50of her title with a fine effort, albeit no one could get close to Marlon Royster. 12 seconds clear of
03:57Capecchi, 16 seconds ahead of Elisa Longaborghini with Anna van der Breggen fourth on the day. So
04:04Marlon Royster takes a first Swiss stage victory in the Giro for 19 years and with it the first
04:11Mallorosa of the week. Into the overall lead and also into the lead of the early points standings.
04:20Mallorosa being claimed by Marlon Royster.
04:26And Antonia Niedermeyer starting as she had finished 2024 with the lead of the young rider category.
04:42The Magna Niedermeyer starting as she's taken at the Stifon Hall of the Year.
04:44Let's go to Marlon Royster and an an and a second inimers of the Kiana.
04:45And he's gonna keep up with it.
04:47So I've got three and four I'm gonna do this.
04:48So I think it's a very good point.
04:51The name of the Giro in the Giro in Stifon Hall of the Year.
04:52The dog starts playing with the men's legs, so it's going to be a very good point.
04:54The dog starts ringing, so it's going to be a very good point.
04:55It's going to be a good point.
04:57So that's why I'm gonna go through, and don't be a good point.
04:59So I try.
05:00And I'm going to be a good point.
05:02My name is my meaning and I'll be a good point.
05:04The dog starts playing with the chair.
